Times call on nursing educators to facilitate learning in such a way that students are empowered to become future leaders in the profession. Appreciative study is a new educational approach that is used to bring about organizational change in the area of teaching and learning. It is an approach to learning where emphasis is focused on positive aspects of learning rather than on negative aspects. The goal of this article is to clarify how appreciative education is applied in nursing education institutions, including evaluation and feedback practices to increase outputs. Introduction: Appreciative Inquiry (AI) is a collective approach to positive (educational) improvements in the institutions. Appreciative Inquiry is a theory, a model of change and a collection of tools and techniques that promote the exploration, dreaming, design and development of a common vision that encourages people within an organization to move towards a mutual destiny. Appreciative Inquiry is a "co-built process that is supported by all those who seek to build opportunities for development and progress focused on the quest for the positive heart." The optimistic essence is found in higher education everywhere people function in ways that improve the learning as well as the mission and purpose of higher education. The optimistic core may serve as the basis for what the organization should do next. The optimistic center for educators may be to aim for educational excellence, which means quality student preparation and training, successful learning results and high-skill students bringing success to the profession. We need to reconsider our approach as educators in order to improve the educational practices and bring about positive change. Conclusion: Appreciative education is motivated by a mutual interest between educators and students to promote learning and view obstacles as growth opportunities. Educators who use appreciative instruction, derived from Appreciative Inquiry, to direct regular evaluation and feedback practices can have a positive effect on student success and the quality of NEI delivered items. The use of appreciative language during evaluation and feedback and the application of the Six-D phases of appreciative education can enhance the internal motivation, creativity and innovation of the students. Appreciative education qualities empower educators to plan and deliver professional nurse practitioners that can provide quality healthcare. Appreciative education is intended to understand the National Department of Health's co-constructed goal of delivering quality care to all South African people.

A conceptual framework was developed that can serve as foundation to design for learning transfer at modular level. The framework is based on an adopted and adapted systemic model of transfer of learning, existing learning theories, constructive alignment, and the elements of effective learning opportunities. A convergent consensus-seeking process, which is typical of a qualitative approach, was used for expert review. The final conceptual framework consists of two principles: establishing a community of learning and the primacy of a learning outcome. The four steps entail: 1) activation of existing knowledge; 2) engaging with new information; 3) demonstrating competence; and 4) application in the real world. It is envisaged that by applying the framework educators in health care will design for transfer of learning, resulting in quality of care and optimal patient outcomes.

Person-centred workplace cultures and effective teamwork have been linked to achieving optimal organisational outcomes. AIM We report nurse educators' perceptions of the elements required for effective teamwork to promote a person-centred workplace culture in a public nursing education institution in South Africa. METHODS A consensus meeting with 32 participants, purposively selected from a population of nurse educators and nursing managers. Data were collected during the consensus meeting, which was facilitated by two external nursing education experts. Data were analysed thematically. RESULTS Three main themes emerged during the consensus meeting in relation to effective teamwork. The first theme was positive work relations, with categories of: knowing self and others, respecting self and others and trusting self and others. The second theme that emerged was effective communication with categories of: sharing information, cultural sensitivity and diversity. The third theme was group cohesion with categories of: active participation, adherence to work plan, collective vision of goals and collective decision making. CONCLUSION Positive work relations open the door towards effective teamwork. Effective communication ensures the smooth dissemination of information and feedback to facilitate effective teamwork and in turn promote a person-centred workplace culture.

Consequently, clinical accompaniment is regarded as a vital component of a nursing programme to offer the necessary support to pregraduate students. the objective of this study was to explore and describe pregraduate students' view regarding the clinical accompaniment they received as part of the clinical component of the four-year programme. In this study a qualitative, contextual, explorative, descriptive and interpretive research design was used to explore and describe pre-graduate students' views of clinical accompaniment as part of the clinical component of the four-year programme. The findings of the study were based on how students viewed clinical accompaniment and they revealed: inadequate support from nurse educators, lack of resources, inadequate support from registered nurses, and disregard for student status. evaluating the clinical accompaniment of pre-graduate students utilising a positive approach of Appreciative Inquiry (AI), gave students the opportunity to give inputs into the aspect that works well (positive) as well as

In Africa, as well as all over the world, the practice of emergency nursing is extremely challenging. In November 2011, an international emergency nursing workgroup (both academic and clinical) was convened in Cape Town, South Africa, to explore the development of a framework for emergency nursing practice in Africa. The resultant framework has implications for nursing education and training, continuing education, and staffing at both the institutional and regional levels throughout the African continent and possibly further afield.
