In June 2013, a multi-day cloud burst remained on North West Indian parts causing heavy floods in the country and it was worst natural disaster in last 5 years. More than 5,700 people lost their lives due to flooding and land sliding. A tropical depression was originated on 29th May 2013 over Bay of Bengal when the first appearance of a lowered pressure organized circulation with Winds constantly between 20 and 34 knots (23 - 39 mph). It remained for 3 days on Bay of Bengal with movement direction towards North West parts of India crossing west of Bay and started mixing with Western Winds (WD). It caused heavy rain fall on areas of Behar and Assam in May and Northern Areas of Indian in June. The objective of this study was to focus on the analysis to identify the origin of Depression and its movement, for which Cirrus...

We can mitigate their impacts through effective disaster management planning and management. Earthquakes with their unpredictability and most devastating nature is become a challenge for scientists and organizations around the world. In order to minimize the earthquake vulnerability and risk, seismic microzonation is frequently used to demarcate the locations that are prone to amplified seismic response. The shear wave velocity of top 30m surface (Vs 30) is frequently and effectively used as an indicator of seismic microzonation. The satellite remote sensing derived terrain slope is used as proxy for terrain slope 1 . The remote sensing derived geomorphic units are also used to estimate the Vs 30 2 . However, these studies are lacking the field measured Vs 30 data and hence the estimated Vs 30 are unreliable. The aim of this study is to...

The aim of this study is to measure the Vs 30 in the field and correlate it with remote sensing derived terrain slope and geology to develop a more realistic seismic microzonation map for the study area of Balakot in northern Pakist...
