This study uses data collected in the intervention classrooms (N = 22) of Head Start REDI (Resear... more This study uses data collected in the intervention classrooms (N = 22) of Head Start REDI (Research-based, Developmentally Informed), a randomized clinical trial testing the efficacy of a comprehensive preschool curriculum targeting children's social-emotional competence, language, and emergent literacy skills delivered by teachers who received weekly coaching support. Multiple dimensions of implementation (Dosage, Fidelity, Generalization, and Child Engagement) were assessed across curriculum components. Results indicated that REDI Trainers perceived significant growth in teacher implementation quality over time but that patterns differed by implementation dimension. Dosage and Fidelity of all intervention components were high at the beginning of the year and remained so over time while Generalization was low at baseline but increased significantly across the year. Variation in implementation was associated with variation on several child outcome measures in the social-emotional domain but not in the language and literacy domains.

Posteriormente, se aborda el tema de la conceptualización de las revistas electrónicas y se presentan las ventajas y los retos de estas publicaciones, ejemplificados con la experiencia de la Revista Electrónica de Investigación Educativa (Redie). Finalmente, se reflexiona sobre los cambios económicos, técnicos y legales que trae consigo el impacto de las nuevas tecnologías de la información en la difusión del conocimiento científico. Abstract. First, the article includes a brief description about the development of electronic publications in the world. In second place, some definitions of academic electronic journals are presented, including its advantages and disadvantages giving as example the case of the Revista electrónica de Investigación educativa (Redie). Finally, some reflections about the impact of these new technologies in the dissemination of scientific knowledge are presented.

In this paper, we present UDAAN ("Utilizing Directional Antennas for Ad Hoc Networking"), which i... more In this paper, we present UDAAN ("Utilizing Directional Antennas for Ad Hoc Networking"), which is an interacting suite of modular network-and MAC-layer mechanisms for adaptive control of steered or switched antenna systems in an ad hoc network. UDAAN consists of several new mechanismsa directional power-controlled MAC, neighbor discovery with beamforming, link characterization with directional antennas, proactive routing and forwarding -all working cohesively to provide the first complete systems solution. We describe the development of a real-life ad hoc network testbed using UDAAN with switched directional antennas, and we discuss the lessons learned during field trials. High fidelity simulation results, using the same networking code as in the prototype, are also presented. For the range of parameters studied, our results show that UDAAN can produce up to a factor-of-10 improvement in throughput over omni-directional communications.

Within the past few years the field has seen o rapid expansion of visibility and work due to the proliferation of inexpensive, widely available wireless devices and the network community's interest in mobile computing.

Forty-four Head Start classrooms were randomly assigned to enriched intervention (Head Start REDI... more Forty-four Head Start classrooms were randomly assigned to enriched intervention (Head Start REDI-Researchbased, Developmentally Informed) or ''usual practice'' conditions. The intervention involved brief lessons, ''handson'' extension activities, and specific teaching strategies linked empirically with the promotion of: (a) socialemotional competencies and (b) language development and emergent literacy skills. Take-home materials were provided to parents to enhance skill development at home. Multimethod assessments of three hundred and fifty-six 4-year-old children tracked their progress over the course of the 1-year program. Results revealed significant differences favoring children in the enriched intervention classrooms on measures of vocabulary, emergent literacy, emotional understanding, social problem solving, social behavior, and learning engagement. Implications are discussed for developmental models of school readiness and for early educational programs and policies.

Sedangkan pengertian service dalam Oxford (2000) didefinisikan sebagai "a system that provides something that the public needs, organized by the government or a private company". Oleh karenanya, pelayanan berfungsi sebagai sebuah sistem yang menyediakan apa yang dibutuhkan oleh masyarakat. 1 Sementara istilah publik, yang berasal dari bahasa Inggris (public), terdapat beberapa pengertian, yang memiliki variasi arti dalam bahasa Indonesia, yaitu umum, masyarakat, dan negara. Public dalam pengertian umum atau masyarakat dapat kita temukan dalam istilah public offering (penawaran umum), public ownership (milik umum), dan public utility (perusahaan umum), public relations (hubungan masyarakat), public service (pelayanan masyarakat), public interest (kepentingan umum) dll. Sedangkan dalam pengertian negara salah satunya adalah public authorities(otoritas negara), public building (bangunan negara), public revenue (penerimaan negara) dan public sector (sektor negara)( Nurcholis.2005. hal. 175). Dalam hal ini, pelayanan publik merujukkan istilah publik lebih dekat pada pengertian masyarakat atau umum. Namun demikian pengertian publik yang melekat pada pelayanan publik tidak sepenuhnya sama dan sebangun dengan pengertian masyarakat. Nurcholish (2005: 178) memberikan pengertian publik sebagai sejumlah orang yang mempunyai kebersamaa berfikir, perasaan, harapan, sikap dan tindakan yang benar dan baik berdasarkan nilai-nilai norma yang mereka miliki. 2
