Due to the increasingly strict competition for the postgraduate education, many master study programs have adopted and implemented the quality improvement program effectively. Such quality improvement program is in the Quality Management System (QMS). The development of this system is the ISO 9001 standard certification. The ISO 9001 certification is a standard that contains the requirements of the quality management system initiated by the International Organization for Standardization (IOS). The institution that this research studied was the industrial engineering master program (MTI) at UPN "Veteran" Yogyakarta. The analytical hierarchy process (AHP) is not as effective and efficient as the pairwise comparis... more The analytical hierarchy process (AHP) is not as effective and efficient as the pairwise comparison (PWC) matrix. The aim of this research is to tackle the weaknesses of the AHP and then applied them to a real-life case of new supplier selection in the Indonesian steel pipe industry. Some criteria are identified that are relevant in the Indonesian steel pipe companies to select new suppliers. A total score is calculated for each supplier and this ranking is used to identify the best one. In this research, the decision maker created the sorting of the criteria used in supplier selection. The matrix of PWC was constructed based on the sorting. Then, the weight of each criterion was calculated using AHP. The result of the method was an improvement over previous methods, because the value of the consistency ratio (CR) was zero, indicating a high degree of validity. This modified method was an improvement on the AHP, with a consistent solution without the need to repeat the calculation.

It also considers the new Total of Material Handling Cost (TMHC), which captures the inventory carrying costs. Moreover, the comparison between the distributed and the modular layout performance is presented. Those two types of layout are called as the next generation layout. It shows that the modular layout, which is done by using graph theory, i.e., modified Hamiltonian chain, gives flexibility as good as the distributed layout. The industry of garment is an industry that focuses on clothing production. Along with the times,... more The industry of garment is an industry that focuses on clothing production. Along with the times, development models and functional clothing is increasingly varied. Therefore company will try to determine the best supplier. Based on observations garment industry in the Central Java, it was found problems related to continuity of fabric supply from main suppliers. When demand soars, demand for cloth supply also increases. However, the availability of fabric supplies owned by main suppliers are not able to fulfil the needs of garment industry. Therefore, garment industry requires alternative backup suppliers who are able to meet the supply of fabric when the main supplier is inadequate. Supplier selection will be carried out using the Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) method in weighting and Technique for Others Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution (TOPSIS) method to sort priority supplier. This supplier priority will be used as an alternative supplier that will meet the availability of fabric supply.

In the coming years, researchers in the supplier selection are more likely to use a combination o... more In the coming years, researchers in the supplier selection are more likely to use a combination of methods of multi-criteria decision making (MCDM). One method of MCDM which often used in such combinations is Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP). The function of AHP in the combination of MCDM is as the weighting in each criterion. In the AHP weighting, it has a very important problem. The problem is difficult to obtain consistent results when the amount of matrix is relatively large. This study proposes a new methodology to solve the problem. The results of this study indicate that the proposed method is able to fix the inconsistent matrix data of wise pair comparison to be consistent.

To implement the ISO 9001:2015 certification in MTI UPN "Veteran" Yogyakarta, this research evaluates the condition of MTI UPN "Veteran" Yogyakarta today and how prepared MTI UPN "Veteran" Yogyakarta. Context-Input-Process-Product (CIPP) was used to assess the readiness of MTI UPN “Veteran” Yogyakarta and then prepare the ISO 9001:2015 certification. CIPP model evaluates from the input and then process and the result of the process in MTI UPN "Veteran" Yogyakarta. The results show the input and process in MTI UPN "Veteran" Yogyakarta is good, but the output is terrible.

In the future, researchers focusing on supplier selection are likely to use a combination of mult... more In the future, researchers focusing on supplier selection are likely to use a combination of multi-criteria decision-making (MCDM) methods. The analytical hierarchy process (AHP) is often used in such combinations. The function of the AHP method in MCDM is criteria weighting. When there are a relatively large number of participants involved in an evaluation judgment, it is difficult to obtain consistent opinions. In such cases, the AHP is a useful method to obtain consistent opinions over time by repeatedly conducting pairwise comparison matrices. This study proposes a new methodology to resolve such problems. In the proposed method, the decision maker assesses the level of contribution of each criterion to the selection of suppliers. Using the proposed method, comparing the contributions of these criteria to supplier selection will always produce a consistent value. The advantage of the proposed method is that decision makers do not have to assess the degree of importance of each individual criterion. So, if there are n criteria, the decision maker has to access as much as n times. The results of this study indicate that the proposed method consistently produces a solution, without the need for repeated human judgements and without consideration of the number of criteria.

The use of the Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) is frequent in supplier selection. First, AHP i... more The use of the Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) is frequent in supplier selection. First, AHP is a pairwise comparison between criteria. If the pairwise comparisons are inconsistent, the result is invalid. Thus, the process of comparing criteria must be repeated continuously until valid results are obtained. This process takes time and costs so it is considered inefficient. This research proposes the application of the Hamilton chain process into the pairwise comparison matrix. One criterion is symbolized as a knot, while the arc is symbolized as the pairwise comparison value between the two nodes or the connected criterion. In the network model of the AHP method, each node is connected to all other nodes without exception. Whereas in the proposed method, each criterion or node is compared only once. That said, avoiding inconsistencies can be made. The consistency ratio result of the proposed method is found to be consistent

In this paper, plant layouts is designed by considering the influence of the environment, i.e., t... more In this paper, plant layouts is designed by considering the influence of the environment, i.e., the variability of demand. It also considers the new Total of Material Handling Cost (TMHC), which captures the inventory carrying costs. Moreover, the comparison between the distributed and the modular layout performance is presented. Those two types of layout are called as the next generation layout. It shows that the modular layout, which is done by using graph theory, i.e., modified Hamiltonian chain, gives flexibility as good as the distributed layout. Abstract in Bahasa Indonesia : Dalam makalah akan dipaparkan suatu rancangan tata letak yang memperhatikan pengaruh dari lingkungan berupa permintaan yang selalu berubah dari waktu ke waktu. Selain itu digunakan juga ukuran Ongkos Material Handling (OMH) yang baru dengan mengakomodasi ongkos simpan selama penanganan bahan.
