The current security position of Afghanistan is largely determined by the broader region and the ... more The current security position of Afghanistan is largely determined by the broader region and the relations within it. At the end of 2014, ISAF mission terminates and lots of processes “wait for their chance” to influence the security situation
in this region. In such circumstances, security vacuum is a possibility even though the ISAF transformation for withdrawal is carefully planned.
The development of events along this path will lead to а situation when Afghanistan could become an even bigger security concern in the region. In this article, the emphasis is put on the security situation in Afghanistan’s neighbors and how their security and interests reflect on the overall security of Afghanistan and the region at large.
Iran and Pakistan are discussed more broadly in this context but the analysis also includes the other neighbors as well as additional actors. Moreover, the level of influence of these countries on the security of Afghanistan and the region is described, as well as the high degree of interconnectedness
and interdependence of their actions.

the Royal Norwegian Embassy in Macedonia set up a goal to investigate whether public, business and civilian sector
of the A5 countries have general knowledge and know – how capacities for future post ISAF engagement.
