Although readings in English, or translated into this currently hegemonic lingua franca, have almost exclusively neglected comparable movements in the Eurasian/Balkan East, Misko Suvakovic's three volume edited collection of recent writing from the Eastern sphere (History of Art in Serbia XX century), opens a new vista and discourse. Using Serbia to model the breadth of multicultural Balkan's realities, Suvakovic transverses disciplines to depict artistic and literary movements broking through closed frames to diverge from globally dominant Western discourses. In positioning diverse artistic movements within a mosaic of Balkan cultures, thus "marking a change in the historicization of art and culture," Suvakovic states,

Much more controversial is some experimental philosophers' critique of armchair philosophical methodology, in particular the reliance on 'intuitions' about thought experiments. This chapter responds to that critique. It argues that, since experimental philosophers have been forced to extend the category of intuition to ordinary judgments about real-life cases, their critique is in immediate danger of generating into global scepticism, because all human judgments turn out to depend on intuitions. Recently, some experimental philosophers have tried to demarcate the target of their critique more narrowly. However, their attempts are still far too indiscriminate, and over-generate scepticism. Nevertheless, once experimental philosophy has refined its own methodology, it may contribute to the refinement of the methodology of mainstream philosophy, by filtering out the effects of cognitive bias, although it offers no prospect of doing without judgments on real or imaginary cases. 2 3 known paper by Weinberg, Nichols, and Stich (2001) may conveniently be taken as the opening broadside of the movement, at least in its contemporary form. Experiments are conducted whose results are interpreted as showing that the crucial verdicts in thought experiments on which philosophers rely are sensitive to factors presumably irrelevant to their truth, such as the ethnicity and gender of the experimental subjects, and the order and environment in which they are presented with the thought experiments. Although much of the esea h that legiti atel goes u de the la el of e pe i e tal philosoph is independent of that methodological critique, this chapter concerns the critique itself, and criticisms of it. Nor does it concern all such criticisms. Many objections have been raised to the specific design, execution, interpretation, and repeatability of specific experiments on which experimental philosophers have ased thei iti ue of philosophe s elia e o thought experiments. This chapter does not discuss objections of that sort (but see CHAPTER XX (ARMCHAIR FRIENDLY EXPERIMENTS)). Rather, it concentrates on broader theoreti al halle ges to the e pe i e tal philosophe s iti ue that arise even if their specific experiments are well designed, well executed, well interpreted, and repeatable.

The experiment used a computerized application as a surrogate for an Automated Teller Machine (ATM). Perceptions were elicited before and after the participants used the system. Pre-experimental measures indicate strong correlations between system's perceived aesthetics and perceived usability. Post-experimental measures indicated that the strong correlation remained intact. A multivariate analysis of covariance revealed that the degree of system's aesthetics affected the post-use perceptions of both aesthetics and usability, whereas the degree of actual usability had no such effect. The results resemble those found by social psychologists regarding the effect of physical attractiveness on the valuation of other personality attributes. The ®ndings stress the importance of studying the aesthetic aspect of human±computer interaction (HCI) design and its relationships to other design dimensions. q
