Is it possible to condense the Queen Of Pop's life and career into a two-hour film?]]> madonna

Getty Image

The Queen Of Pop needs your help. Madonna took to Instagram to ask her followers whether a biopic about her life and career, which supposedly stars Julia Garner as the “Express Yourself” singer, should be a movie or TV show.

“After struggling for days in LA,” Madonna wrote, “listening to producers and agents Tell me why I couldn’t make my film –I (been working on it for 4 years!!!) downsize-down scale -think smaller-they say–I realized that everything in my life is going to be challenged. No easy rides for me.”

She continued, “I cannot make this in the normal way. Spending time with my creative friends was just the fuel I needed to keep going! We all agreed that we need to be even more fearless!!! Art =Survival We cannot shrink and make ourselves smaller. If you want something badly enough in life– the whole universe will conspire to hel you get it.”

Madonna then posed a question to her followers: “Should I make the story of my life into a series or a feature Film.”

Nearly every reply is begging for a series because, as one person put it, “A movie wouldn’t be long enough to cover everything.” A movie would have to condense four decades of hits into two hours, but a TV show could dedicate an entire episode to her song for the Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me soundtrack (it’s a good one).

Add Sydney Sweeney to the list of Chappell Roan’s famous fans.

In an interview with USA Today, the Euphoria and The Housemaid star was asked what she’s been listening to lately. “When I start to work on a project, I kind of stop listening to everything else, but I’ve definitely been loving Tate [McRae] and loving Chappell Roan, and I’ve always been a huge fan of Billie [Eilish],” she said. “If you can see my Instagram, I always use Lana Del Rey songs on all of my Reels. So I’m a huge Lana girl.”

If Sweeney sees an alligator the next time she’s posing for “thirst trap” photos out on the water, Lana knows a guy.

Sweeney, who is currently filming a biopic of boxer Christy Martin, also shared her favorite romantic-comedy (1997’s My Best Friend’s Wedding) and the television show she’s maybe watched more than any other. “I have seen every single episode [of _Law and Order: SVU_] multiple times,” the actress said. Sweeney is partial to seasons 8 through 10 (it’s currently up to season 26), “when they have the most iconic cast. And I think those are probably some of the best seasons, but I still love the recent ones, too.”

Liam Gallagher was just having a laugh about a new Oasis album.

Back in September, Gallagher was asked by a fan on X (formerly Twitter) if the British group was going to release any new music to coincide with their reunion tour. “Yep it’s already finished,” he replied. When another follower wondered if “an albums in the air,” Gallagher wrote back, “It’s in the bag mate f*ck the air.”

It turns out, one of music’s greatest sh*tposters was doing exactly that.

“Let’s just calm the f*ck down,” Gallagher wrote in response to an Oasis fan account claiming that Liam and Noel are “working intently” on a new album. “there is no oasis album in the making I was f*cking joking remember them and the reason being because everyone is a little uptight these days I’m sorry if I have upset anyone but f*ck me it was a laugh.”

For now, 2008’s Dig Out Your Soul will remain the “final” Oasis album.

Oasis Live ’25 Tour is scheduled to begin on July 4, 2025 in Wales (assuming Liam and Noel don’t sue and/or pee on each other before then) before making its way to the United States in August. You can see the full list of dates here.

Azealia Banks was not a fan of Charli XCX’s dual role as host and musical guest on Saturday Night Live this past weekend. “I legit just a caught how this song a lazy artist studio interpolation of Ciara’s 1,2 step,” Banks wrote on X (formerly Twitter) about her performance of “360.” After accusing Charli of having “flow just without the swag,” she continued, “I guess brat is when nobody has to tell u ur trash because u already know ur trash. This actually gets worse and worse.”

The “rantings of a lunatic” (as Banks describes herself) caught the attention of Matty Healy, whose 1975 bandmate, George Daniel, is engaged to Charli. “Shut up you f*cking prat,” he wrote in response. In a follow-up tweet, Healy added, “Being more annoying than me is actually impressive.”

This isn’t the first time Banks and Healy have sparred. She called him a “full incel” while he was rumored to be dating Taylor Swift. “Taylor, this guy is gonna give you scabies. He’s not on the level of powerful p*ss you worked hella hard to build. Ugh, so many much cooler people in music to work with,” she wrote in an Instagram Story. “You cannot be letting him climb the rich white coochie mountain, sis.” In a separate incident, Banks also advised Healy to eat “a strong green salad” and “wash [his] d*ck.”

Tyler Perry has another hit on his hands with 'Beauty in Black,' his first Netflix show.]]> beauty in black

netflix

Netflix is in the Tyler Perry business, and business is good.

In October 2023, the prolific filmmaker agreed to a first-look deal for eight movies with the streaming service. Months later, in February 2024, he continued the creative partnership with a multi-year pact for new TV shows, beginning with Beauty in Black. The drama premiered in October and, like most of Perry’s movies and shows, it’s a hit: Beauty in Black was the most-watched show on Netflix during its second week of release. It’s still in the top 10.

Considering its success, Beauty in Black is obviously getting a season 2 (which is technically the second half of season 1). Here’s everything we know about what’s next, including plot details and a potential release date window.

Plot

Set in Atlanta, Beauty in Black follows Kimmie (played by Taylor Polidore Williams), an exotic dancer who struggles to make ends meet after her mother kicks her out, and Mallory (Crystle Stewart), the wealthy owner of a hair care company. Eventually, the pair become entangled in each other’s lives.

“The hair care business here is huge [and strip club] Magic City is huge, and I was like, what happened if those worlds collided — the stripper world and this hair care business?” Perry explained to Tudum about his inspiration for the show. “Never ever underestimate the power of the underdog.”

Season 1 (Part I) ends on a cliffhanger. No spoilers here, but Perry wants “people talking about it around the water cooler, and on [social media], and trending, and just loving it.” As for season 2 / part II, he teased, “I don’t think anybody’s going to be able to figure out where it’s going and how that rise of power happens with Kimmie. It’s going to be mind-blowing for people.”

Cast

Beauty in Black features many actors who have previously appeared in Tyler Perry projects, including leads Taylor Polidore Williams as Kimmie and Crystle Stewart (fun fact: she’s a former Miss USA winner) as Mallory Bellaire.

In an interview with Classix ATL, Polidore Williams described how Perry pitched the show to her. “He was like, ‘Read it, whatever you need, you can do it,’ and I think that trust that he had in me gave me the confidence to kind of go from there and do my thing and to prepare for such an emotionally taxing role,” she said. “It was in the story, so I didn’t have to do too much creation in my mind. It’s pretty helpful with what’s going on.”

The show also stars Amber Reign Smith as Rain, Debbi Morgan as Olivia, Richard Lawson as Norman, Steven G. Norfleet as Charles, Julian Horton as Roy, Terrell Carter as Varney, Shannon Wallace as Calvin, Xavier Smalls as Angel, Charles Malik Whitfield as Jules, Ursula O. Robinson as Delinda. There’s also Ricco Ross as Horace, Bryan Tanaka as Officer Alex, Joy Rovaris as Gillian, Tamera “Tee” Kissen as Body, Ashley Versher as Lena, and George Middlebrook as Officer Trackson.

Release Date

Netflix gave Beauty in Black a 16-episode order when it was announced. The first eight episodes premiered on October 24, 2024. The other eight will debut in 2025, possibly as soon as the spring.

Trailer

If you haven’t watched Beauty in Black, you can see what all the hubbub is about in the trailer for season 1.

Tonight, November 15, is the much-publicized boxing match between Mike Tyson and Jake Paul. Ahead of the fight, which will stream on Netflix, Iron Mike was asked by internet-famous teen reporter Jazlyn Guerra, a.k.a. Jazzy’s World TV, for his thoughts on legacy. He took it very seriously.

“Well, I don’t know. I don’t believe in the word ‘legacy,'” Tyson replied. “I just think that’s another word for ego. Legacy doesn’t mean nothing. That’s just some word everybody grabbed onto. Someone said that word, and everyone grabbed on the words, and now it’s used every five seconds. It means absolutely nothing to me. I’m just passing through. I’mma die, and it’s gonna be over. Who cares about legacy after that?”

Tyson somehow wasn’t done. “What a big ego,” he continued. “So I’mma die. I want people to think that I’m this, I’m great. I’m, no. We’re nothing. We’re just dead. We’re dust. We’re absolutely nothing. Our legacy is nothing.”

Guerra responded to Tyson’s stream-of-consciousness existentialism with a polite “thank you so much for sharing that,” but 50 Cent had another takeaway. “G*ddam it! Mike ya scaring the kids, WTF chill,” the rapper wrote on X. “Note to self, keep the kids away from Mike.”

Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson streams on Netflix beginning at 8 p.m. ET.

It’s all “good news” for Shaboozey lately.

The singer’s Grammy-nominated single, “A Bar Song (Tipsy),” remains at the top of the Billboard Hot 100 and is only three weeks away from breaking Lil Nas X and Billy Ray Cyrus’ record for the most weeks spent at No. 1 in the chart’s history. Shaboozey also just dropped his first new single since the release of his breakthrough album, Where I’ve Been Isn’t Where I’m Going.

“Good News” has Shaboozey pining for better days. Accompanied by a somber acoustic guitar and pedal steel guitar, he sings, “I need some good news / Sittin’ here, sippin’ on cold truth / Nobody knows what I’m goin’ through / Bet the devil wouldn’t walk in my shoes.”

Shaboozey was recently asked by Billboard about how he feels receiving Grammy nominations across multiple genres, including country and rap. “It’s bittersweet for sure,” he said. “There’s a tremendous amount of talent in the country space and there are so many well-written songs that I felt also deserved that look. Country music is not yearning for talent. The beautiful thing about country music — especially some of the people who have been doing it for such a long time – is that so many people could have been out in that category.”

Vince Gilligan is working on his follow-up to Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul.

The still-untitled Apple TV+ series (possibly Wycaro?) reunites Gilligan with Emmy-snubbed actress Rhea Seehorn and has been described as a “fun, mild sci-fi series” that’s “said to be set in our world while putting a tweak on it, bending reality and focusing on people and exploring the human condition in an unexpected, surprising way.”

Filming on “Untitled Vince Gilligan Apple TV+ Series” began in Albuquerque, New Mexico, where Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul were set, in May. But it appears the show is going international as well.

Spain-based publication Atlántico Hoy reports (with translation from Google) that “Risco San Nicolás, in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, is one of the Canary Islands locations chosen for the filming of Wycaro, the new project by Vince Gilligan.” Production will “remain in the capital of Gran Canaria until November 19, and will then move to another location in the north.”

Please, no throw pizzas on the roof of any Gran Canaria buildings.

Gilligan previously teased that there will be “no crime and no methamphetamine” in his show, which also stars Karolina Wydra, but “the world changes very abruptly in the first episode, and then it is quite different. And the consequences that that reaps hopefully provide drama for many, many episodes after that.” There is currently no release date.

With that said, here are our selections for this week.

15. Dan Da Dan (Netflix)

netflix

The acclaimed anime Dan Da Dan is about Momo, a high school girl from a family of spirit mediums, and her classmate / occult fanatic Okarun, who begin talking after she saves him from getting bullied. However, an argument ensues between them: Momo believes in ghosts but denies aliens, and Okarun believes in aliens but denies ghosts. It’s a real Mulder and Scully dynamic, if they were both Mulder (and there was a Turbo Granny). Dan Da Dan, which is getting a weekly release, comes from animation studio Science Saru, who also made last year’s shockingly good Scott Pilgrim Takes Off.

Rolling Stone called it “raucous” and “slickly entertaining,” while Collider praised the “impressive stunt sequences, complex character work, and perfect blending of drama and spy thriller.” Oh, and if you’re wondering about the title, “Honey” and “Bunny” are the names of the lead characters. Seems important to know.

The animated series on Netflix from creators Christian Linke and Alex Yee is based on League of Legends, but trust me, even if you know zilch about the multiplayer online role-playing game, you can still enjoy Arcane. Season 1 premiered all the way back in 2021 (it’s somehow been an even longer wait than Stranger Things), but the strikingly stylish show is now back for its second season… which is also the final season. The voice cast includes Hailee Steinfeld and Ella Purnell, the queen of the video game show.

One of the most anticipated albums of 2024, or 2025, or whenever it comes out is SZA’s Lana (not to be confused with Lana Del Rey’s new album). It was originally intended as an extended version of 2022’s massive SOS, but after a few songs leaked to the public, the album has since become its own thing.

SZA gave an update on Lana in a recent interview with British Vogue. “I think I am making music from a more beautiful place. From a more possible place versus a more angsty place,” she said. “I’m not identifying with my brokenness. It’s not my identity. It’s shit that happened to me. Yeah, I experienced cruelty. I have to put it down at some point. Piece by piece, my music is shifting because of that, the lighter I get.”

SZA also discussed headlining Glastonbury earlier this year. “I just felt like nothing I could do would be enough for Glastonbury, no matter what I did. It scared me. I was like, well, I wish I wasn’t doing it, but I couldn’t walk away from it…” she said. “I want to be the second Black woman in history, but then it’s such a f*cking tall order. It’s like, no matter what you do here, you will be subject to criticism. Because of who you are. But that’s life. That’s life, you know?”

One of the highlights of The Eras Tour is when Taylor Swift gives a young fan her hat while performing “22.” The lucky recipient during a recent concert in Indianapolis was 7-year-old Eloise, who, despite her young age, has a connection to the pop star that goes way back.

Swift used to be very active on social media, including interacting with her fans on Instagram Live. Eloise’s Swiftie mom, Cindy Childs, was streaming one night when Swift jumped into the comments. “It was a really fun chat because Taylor was like, ‘Don’t wake her up,’ and all my friends were like, ‘Wake her up,'” she told USA Today. Swift stuck around for 45 minutes and said that she wanted to meet Eloise someday. Seven years later, she stayed true to her word.

Cindy shared her story on social media ahead of the Indianapolis date of The Eras Tour, and it went viral. “All my friends were like, ‘This is getting so much traction, you have to post where you’re sitting.’ So I tweeted that we were sitting in Section 112, Row 1 if anyone wants to trade bracelets,” she said. While Swift was performing “Love Story,” a member of her team “appeared with security guards and knelt down to the 7-year-old in a 1989 iridescent bomber jacket,” according to USA Today. “She asked the girl if she was Eloise and took her hand. Childs, her sister, and her niece trailed behind all the way to the end of the stage catwalk.”

The four members of Blackpink are busy with their solo careers. Rosé released the year’s biggest earworm with Bruno Mars; Lisa is a “Rockstar” who is starring in The White Lotus season 3; Jennie broke UK chart records with “Mantra”; and Jisoo is focused on acting in Korean shows and movies. But despite their packed schedules, Blackpink still find time for each other.

“We know each other so well and know how much energy we have to put into every single project,” Lisa told Billboard. “So we want to support and say, ‘You did really well!’ Like, Jennie and Rosie just released their own songs, and we’re on texts, we’re on FaceTime. They’re like family. I’m just so happy that they’re releasing something. This is what we all wanted to do, so I just wanted to say that I really do love their songs.”

Lisa was also asked about her more mature image since going solo, including rhyming “I’m a rockstar” with “baby, make you rock-hard” and performing at the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show.

“It’s a little looser [now],” she said. “We’re not rookies anymore. I’m 27 and headed toward 30. Of course I’m still young, yes, but I feel like it’s more flexible for us. And it’s nothing crazy. I feel like I’m just doing whatever I want, and it doesn’t hurt anyone. As long as it doesn’t hurt anyone’s feelings.”

The poor response to Joker: Folie À Deux did nothing to deter Lady Gaga’s acting career. Entertainment Weekly reports that the “Die With A Smile” singer has joined the cast of Netflix’s Wednesday for season 2. It’s currently unknown who Gaga is playing, but she’s currently filming the show in Europe.

This is Gaga’s official introduction to Wednesday, but she was already unofficially affiliated with Netflix’s most-watched English language show after a remix of “Bloody Mary” set to star Jenna Ortega’s dance scene as Wednesday Addams went viral.

“I’m sure Netflix would love that,” Ortega said at the 2023 Golden Globes about Gaga joining the show. “I think Mrs. Thornhill and Wednesday had this weird mentor relationship or kind of understood each other in a certain way, so, if Lady Gaga were to be a part, I think it would have to be two monsters that understand each other.”

Ortega also shared her history with Gaga. “I worked with a hairdresser that used to work with her, and I’d just seen Lady Gaga in concert in Boston a couple of years before, and she’d made me a video saying, ‘Hey Jenna, I heard you’re a fan.’ It was a really sweet video,” she said. “I doubt she had any idea who I was back then, but to see her do [the Wednesday dance] now, it’s one of those moments you acknowledge life changes really fast. It’s crazy.”

Wednesday season 2 premieres on Netflix in 2025.

“That’s So True” is the biggest hit of Gracie Abrams‘ career. It was also almost her most “vulgar” song.

Rolling Stone reports that during Spotify’s “You’re Invited, I’m Sorry: An Evening with Gracie Abrams” event this week, Abrams shared that there’s “a whole, very vulgar version” of the track that “will never see the light of day,” she added.

Abrams and co-songwriter Audrey Hobert were working on “That’s So True” when they got “a little drunk in a great way — in a light, fresh way.” The “Us” singer said that they were “just doubled over in tears, laughing so hard, saying the most horrific sh*t to song,” while Hobert added that the lyrics were “like sexual, just so you don’t get it confused with any other horrible thing. Nothing that could be on the radio or, you know, Spotify.”

Maybe in 10 years, we’ll get a 10-minute version of “That’s So True.” Until then, Abrams made the right choice in releasing the non-“horrific sh*t” version. “That’s So True” is currently no. 13 on the Hot 100, and it might soon unseat “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” by Shaboozey at the top of the chart after 17 non-consecutive weeks. That makes it the biggest solo song ever, and only two weeks away from tying the overall record set by Lil Nas X and Billy Ray Cyrus’ “Old Town Road.”

The 'Twisters' and 'Hit Man' actor is building an impressive filmography.]]> glen_powell_tom_cruise(1024x450)

It was reported earlier this week that Glen Powell, the handsome and charismatic (pick one or the other, buddy; it’s not fair to the rest of us to be both) star of Hit Man and Twisters, is Tom Cruise’s preferred choice to take over the spy franchise following 2025’s Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning. When asked about the rumor on Tuesday’s episode of The Pat McAfee Show, Powell replied, “My mom would never let me do that,” adding that the building-scaling job is “a death trap.”

Powell was kidding (he’s used the “mom” line before), but if he was indeed offered the gig and turned it down, he made the correct choice. He can be “the next Tom Cruise” without literally replacing Tom Cruise.

Tom Cruise’s breakthrough year came in 1986 (his 2024, so to speak), when he starred in both Top Gun and The Color of Money. Top Gun made him a movie star, but The Color of Money taught him how to be a movie star. The pool hustler drama with Paul Newman and Cruise was a passing of the torch from one generation of leading man to another, and Cruise was a willing student.

Back in 2021, Cruise shared the valuable advice he received from Newman while shooting the Martin Scorsese film. It’s long, so grab your popcorn.

“I was like, ‘I’m gonna have a leather jacket and t-shirt. I’m gonna have my hair blown back. It’s guaranteed up to 90 miles an hour. And there I am in January, and I’m shooting this scene. And I remember in the script, it was like outside. I didn’t think about it. Wardrobe’s like, ‘Yeah it looks great.’ And I am doing this scene, and I mean, I’m telling you, it’s so cold I can’t even speak. I’m in between takes, and [Newman] is in a car, and I’m running to this area. They’re trying to thaw [me]. Newman’s like, ‘Where’s the kid? Where’s the kid?’ So finally, I have this scene where he’s in the car, and I’m next to him. I look in, and I’m like, ‘What?’ He had the warm coat. He had the heater in there. It was an electric heater, OK? … He looked at me, and he’s like, ‘T-shirt? You tried your wardrobe on in the summer, didn’t you?’ I was like, ‘Yes, sir. I did.’ He’s like, ‘Watch and learn, kid. Watch and learn.’ I never forgot it. I literally never forgot it.”

Powell has been watching and learning from Cruise.

He watched how the four-time Oscar nominee handled himself to “make a big event movie.” He learned to care about his legacy. He watched and learned during a six-hour long “film school” video that Cruise screens only for select friends and covers everything from the difference between a film camera and a digital camera and how air pressure works. (I need to see this almost as much as I need to eat the Tom Cruise cake.)

Powell is an eager protégé learning from a master, and he’s putting together an impressive (and superhero-free!) filmography. His charming early performances in Everybody Wants Some!! and Hidden Figures put him on the radar; he capitalized on that buzz with Top Gun: Maverick in 2022, followed by Anyone But You in 2023 and Hit Man and Twisters in 2024. His upcoming slate is promising, too.

Powell, like Cruise going from teen classic Risky Business to fantasy epic Legend to four-quadrant blockbuster Top Gun to Oscar player The Color of Money early in his career, is aware of the dangers of pigeonholing himself into one genre. “I’m trying to do ambitious things that scare me a little bit, because when they scare you, it means that you have to rise to the occasion,” he told Vanity Fair. The only way that quote could have been more Tom Cruise-y is if it ended with him jumping out of a plane.

The idea of a movie star has changed a lot since Glen Powell was Cruise’s age. It’s the intellectual properties that are the draw now. But that’s seemingly beginning to change with exciting young actors like Zendaya, Jenna Ortega, Timothée Chalamet, Rachel Zegler, and, perhaps most of all, Powell. He has the talent, looks, and charisma to have a successful career. But Powell is aiming higher than that. He wants to be an old fashioned Movie Star, or as he told Tom Cruise when he was cast in Top Gun: Maverick, “I’m working to try to be you.” It’s a mission that, with Cruise’s help, doesn’t seem so impossible.

Gomez is also a huge Nirvana fan, as she previously discussed on Jimmy Kimmel Live. “I should have said one of theirs. I was, and still am, obsessed,” she said. “I dyed my hair to be the exact color of Kurt Cobain’s.” Gomez also gave a shout-out to Brett Morgen’s 2015 documentary Kurt Cobain: Montage Of Heck, which she called one of her “favorite music documentaries,” adding, “I’ve watched it maybe 10 times. It’s very emotional but really impactful. I felt so many things watching it.”

Earlier this year, Gomez told Vanity Fair that she’s not planning on releasing any new music (her most recent album was 2020’s Rare). “I don’t know if I’m ready, you know? It’s a vulnerable space,” she said. “Acting has always been my first love. Music is just a hobby that went out of control. Now it is a part of who I am, so I don’t think I’m going anywhere. I’m just not ready yet.”

Emilia Pérez is streaming now on Netflix.

Sydney Sweeney is used to questions about her own on-screen nude scenes. But what she does think of other people’s?

As part of Vanity Fair‘s annual “Hollywood” issue, the Euphoria actress was asked about Jude Law showing some skin in Ron Howard’s new film, Eden. “This movie hasn’t been seen by a proper audience yet, so I’m not quite sure what people will say about it. I mean, I know I was cheering,” Sweeney said. “I am always very supportive of nudity, of sexual scenes, if the story of the character warrants it. For Jude’s character, it was such a powerful move for him to do, so I wanted to cheer for that. Whether it’s men or women, if it’s for the character it’s for the character, and it tells a story.”

Eden, which also stars Ana de Armas, Vanessa Kirby, and Daniel Brühl, is about eight people attempting to co-exist on the same remote island. The film does not currently have a release date.

Later in the interview, Sweeney was also asked about her winking SNL monologue. “I loved it. I actually had to push for a lot of it,” she said. “Some people were a little nervous about it, but in real life, I’d like to say I’m a funny person. And sometimes I wish that I could address more [things with] my “Syd” self, but I find that with social media there’s such a lapse in how things are communicated. It’s hard to get things across in the way that you intend to — they can be misconstrued. So being able to do it onstage in very Syd fashion, I loved it. I felt like I was taking the power back.”

Sweeney is currently filming a biopic of boxer Christy Martin. She got jacked.

A number of venues across the globe, including London’s Wembley Stadium and Brooklyn’s Barclays Center, have been sharing images on social media with banners reading “Counting To Zero” being changed to “Counting From Zero.” There’s also a cryptic tease for something being announced at 7 a.m. ET on November 14. The most popular theory is that the reformed Linkin Park will announce a tour behind their new album, From Zero, on that date.

The “Counting From Zero” tease also popped up for Moody Center in Austin, Texas; CFG Bank Arena in Baltimore, Maryland; United Center in Chicago, Illinois; Ball Arena in Denver, Colorado; Little Caesars Arena in Detroit, Michigan; Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, Tennessee; T-Mobile Center in Kansas City, Missouri; Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey; BOK Center in Tulsa; and Golden 1 Center in Sacramento, California, among many others. There’s also international venues in Germany, Italy, and France.

Linkin Park had been on hiatus since 2017 following the death of lead singer Chester Bennington, but the group reformed earlier this year with a new vocalist, Emily Armstrong.

From Zero is out 11/15 via Warner Records.

Elon Musk has responded to the comments that he was the “terrible” and “rude” SNL host who made the cast of the sketch show cry.

It all began over the summer when Bowen Yang was asked on Watch What Happens Live to name the “worst SNL host behavior” he’s seen during his time on the show. “This man who — this person, this host — made multiple cast members cry on Wednesday before the table read because he hated the ideas,” he said, adding that he was “terrible.” Yang didn’t call out the host by name, but Chloe Fineman did on Monday in a since-deleted TikTok video.

“OK, I just saw some news article about Elon Musk being like butt-hurt over SNL and his impression, but I’m like you’re clearly watching the show, like what are you talking about?” she said. “And I’m like, you know what? I’m gonna come out and say at long last that I’m the cast member that he made cry. And he’s the host that made someone cry.”

Fineman continued, “You made I, Chloe Fineman burst into tears because I stayed up late writing a sketch. I was so excited, I came in, I asked if you had any questions and you stared at me like you were firing me from Tesla and were like, ‘It’s not funny.’”

Musk replied on (where else?) X. “Frankly, it was only on the Thursday before the Saturday that ANY of the sketches generated laughs. I was worried,” he wrote. “I was like damn my SNL appearance is going to be so f*cking unfunny that it will make a crackhead sober!! But then it worked out in the end.”

Did it, though? Of the 977 episodes of SNL with user ratings on IMDb, Musk’s 2021 episode (with musical guest Miley Cyrus) is ranked 967th, with a 4.7. The host of the lowest-ranked episode? Donald Trump.

It’s been over a year since Harlem season 2 ended with a cliffhanger. But thankfully, the Prime Video series is coming back soon: Harlem season 3 will premiere at the beginning of next year, on January 23.

Created by Girls Trip writer Tracy Oliver, Harlem follows four friends, Camille (played by Meagan Good), Tye (Jerrie Johnson), Quinn (Grace Byers), and Angie (Shoniqua Shandai), on the “precipice of change like never before,” according to the official logline. “Whether it be motherhood, singlehood, sisterhood, complicated career journeys, or even more complicated families, our stylish and ambitious best girlfriends strive to finally choose themselves above all else.”

Season 3 will introduce a number of new characters, including MLB player Seth (Kofi Siriboe), the “edgy and beautiful” Portia (Logan Browning), and “a driven, yet playful venture capitalist” Eva (Gail Bean).

When asked by Pop Sugar about the themes she’d like to explore in season 3, Oliver replied, “I feel like there’s just a growing number of women that are not waiting for the right situation or the right man or woman to come in their lives. They’re just like, all right, I can provide for a kid. I’m ready for it. I’m just going to go about that journey on my own. I think that there’s something really powerful about it, and I’m excited to maybe explore that next season.”

After a three-year break, Arcane is back! Season 2 of the thrilling animated series premieres on Netflix on Saturday, November 9, although not the entire season. Only the first three episodes, a.k.a. Act I, will be available this weekend. You’ll have to wait to get the rest of the season — but for how long?

Arcane season 2, act I consists of “Heavy Is The Crown,” “Watch It All Burn,” and “Finally Got The Name Right” (is the name Jinx or Powder?). Act II debuts on November 16, followed by act III on November 23. Those will also be the final episodes of the most expensive animated series of all-time, although not the end of stories set within the League of Legends universe.

Arcane is just the beginning of our larger storytelling journey and partnership with the wonderful animation studio that is Fortiche Production,” co-creator Christian Linke told Tudum. “From the very beginning, since we started working on this project, we had a very specific ending in mind, which means the story of Arcane wraps up with this second season. But Arcane is just the first of many stories that we want to tell in Runeterra.”

Arcane features the voices of Ella Purnell, Hailee Steinfeld, Katie Leung, Harry Lloyd, and Reed Shannon. You can watch the trailer for season 2 below.

Taylor Swift! Beyoncé! Charli XCX! Many of the biggest names in music — including relative newcomer Chappell Roan and previous winner Billie Eilish — are up for Album Of The Year at the 2025 Grammys. We’re still months away from the ceremony on February 2, 2025 (and over two years from a move to Disney+), so instead of making individual predictions, I’m going to make a brief case for why every Album Of The Year nominee could and/or should win.

Let’s kick things off with arguably the most surprising nomination…

André 3000 – New Blue Sun

If Album Of The Year was given to the most daring album, André 3000 would have this thing locked down. Not every Outkast fan loved his solo debut being a jazz album with more flutes than rapping and track titles like “Ghandi, Dalai Lama, Your Lord & Savior J.C. / Bundy, Jeffrey Dahmer, And John Wayne Gacy,” but you can’t accuse Andre of not following his muse.

Beyoncé – Cowboy Carter

Beyoncé is the most-nominated artist in Grammys history (99!). She also has the most wins (32) — but not the biggest award. Despite her stature as one of the most influential titans of pop and R&B (and now country) in the 21st century, Beyoncé has yet to win Album Of The Year. This could — and if the critical reception to Cowboy Carter is any indication, should — be the time.

Billie Eilish – Hit Me Hard And Soft

Billie Eilish is the first artist ever to have her first three albums nominated for Album Of The Year. And she’s still only 22 years old! Hit Me Hard And Soft features Eilish’s biggest hit (“Birds Of A Feather”) since her breakthrough single “Bad Guy,” and the album as a whole is quietly confident with some of her strongest vocals. It gets better with every listen.

Chappell Roan – The Rise And Fall Of A Midwest Princess

Chappell Roan had a meteoric 2024. Could her 2025 be historic? Only Christopher Cross and Billie Eilish have won the “Big Four” at the Grammys (Album Of The Year, Record Of The Year, Song Of The Year, and Best New Artist) in the same year. Roan is up for all four, and a sweep is very possible. She is your favorite artist’s favorite artist, after all.

Charli XCX – Brat

Charli XCX became what I like to call “Mom Famous” this year. As in, my mom now knows who Charli XCX is (the next time I’m in a glum mood, I’ll remember the time she called me to ask, “What is ‘brat’?” and I’ll cheer right up). But Brat is not only a word of the year phenomenon. It’s also a devil-may-care, club-classic album. “kamala IS brat” didn’t turn out so great, but how about “charli IS album of the year winner”?

Jacob Collier – Djesse Vol. 4

Jacob Collier isn’t a household name like the Taylor Swifts and Beyoncés of the world. But that’s what makes rooting for Djesse Vol. 4, a unique exercise in genre experimentation, to upset the frontrunners so fun. Who doesn’t love an underdog story?

Sabrina Carpenter – Short N’ Sweet

Everyone knows “Espresso” and “Please Please Please,” but a lot of people don’t realize that Short N’ Sweet is Sabrina Carpenter’s sixth album. She’s been doing it for a while! But with songs like her first two top-5 hits, as well as “Taste” and the Short N’ Sweet Tour highlight “Juno,” Carpenter has elevated her game. Just imagine the outro to her acceptance speech!

Taylor Swift – The Tortured Poets Department

Taylor Swift has won Album Of The Year four times, more than any other artist or band ever. She’s the frontrunner any time she’s nominated in the category. The Tortured Poets Department isn’t the album many Swifties were expecting, it’s better, and she (and Jack Antonoff) could be awarded once again for it.

The 2025 Grammys air on CBS and stream on Paramount+ on February 2, 2025.

Saoirse Ronan and Chappell Roan have more in common than just the letters in their last names.

While appearing on Thursday’s episode of The Tonight Show, the Blitz actress was asked by host Jimmy Fallon about her resemblance to the “Good Luck, Babe!” singer. Ronan is aware of tweets like this one, and “the person who made me aware of it was Chappell,” she said. “I became so obsessed with her over the summer, just like everyone else. Her and Charli XCX.”

Ronan went to one of Roan’s concerts “and randomly lovely Brie Larson was there as well, who I know a a little bit. She brought a friend of hers, and afterwards, her friend was like, ‘I’m gonna go over. I’m gonna talk to her parents.’ And we were like, ‘No, you’ve got to play it cool. We can’t, like, let her know that we love her as much as we do.’ And so he went over, and it turns out that her friend is from the same town as Chappell’s family.” When Ronan and Roan met, the pop star told her, “Oh, everyone says that we’re the same.”

You can watch Ronan — not Roan (although she does a good Chappell impression) — on The Tonight Show above.

Here’s a fun trivia question for you: name the only singer with a top-10 hit on the Billboard Hot 100 with a dog named after Tom Hanks. Time’s up! (It helps if you haven’t read the headline.) The answer: Rosé.

While appearing on the latest episode of Hot Ones, the “APT.” singer talked about her dog, Hank. “Hank was named after Tom Hanks,” she explained. “If you look at my dog, for some reason, he just looks like a Hank. He’s chic. When I go home, I’m like, ‘Hey, I miss you,’ and he’s very like, ‘Cool. It’s good to see you.’ We’re a good match because I’m very needy… we definitely balance each other out. Perfect combo, in my opinion. I hope he feels the same.”

Later on, Rosé had a message for Hank before eating one of the spicier wings. “I feel like I have to make a speech because this is going to kill me,” she said before looking into the camera to address her pup directly: “Hank, I love you so much. I hope I can survive this, but if I don’t ever see you again, I love you.”

Also in the video, Rosé discussed what differentiates Blackpink from other groups. “I think Blackpink, all four of us… each one of us, we want such big things for ourselves and we work so hard everyday,” she said. “I’ve never seen someone that’s just like, “I just want to rest.’ Even if we’ve said that before I don’t think anyone means that. Blackpink is really hardworking.”

There's a new 'Star Wars' trilogy coming.]]> Grogu Baby Yoda Mandalorian Season 3

Lucasfilm

Remember the polarizing reaction to 2017’s The Last Jedi, a good movie? Disney does, which is one of the reasons why only a single Star Wars movie has come out since then.

There’s been plenty of attempts at launching a new trilogy or standalone series since the Skywalker Saga came to a disappointing end with The Rise of Skywalker (Babu Frik innocent!), but none have stuck. Maybe Simon Kinberg will have better luck?

The writer of Mr. & Mrs. Smith, X-Men: Days of Future Past, and Fantastic Four has signed an “expansive deal to write and produce a Star Wars feature trilogy,” according to The Hollywood Reporter. “Kinberg would spearhead the launching of a new saga in the beloved galaxy far, far away, and will write the scripts for what Lucasfilm hopes would chart a brand new path forward for the sci-fi space opera universe.” The trilogy is disconnected to the Skywalker Saga, so it won’t be episodes 10, 11, and 12 of George Lucas’ original vision; instead, the aim is to “have brand new characters and a new story.”

But with Kinberg’s trilogy many years away (assuming it works out), what is the next Star Wars movie? It’s the only one with an official release date: The Mandalorian & Grogu. The big-screen continuation of the Disney+ series The Mandalorian is scheduled to come out on May 22, 2026, unless Baby Yoda is a diva on set and slows things down. That guy loves drama.

Heretic is A24’s new horror film starring Hugh Grant as a creepy… what more do you need? It’s Hugh Grant! From Paddington 2! In an A24 horror movie! The film, about two missionaries who must prove their faith to a creepy recluse, also stars Chloe East and Sophie Thatcher, best known for her role on Yellowjackets (and a Pavement music video). She recorded a cover of Bob Dylan’s “Knockin’ On Heaven’s Door” for Heretic, which you can hear below. You can also watch a behind-the-scenes featurette above.

“The cover version feels very melancholic and feminine, and more dreamy and atmospheric, whereas [Dylan’s] is far more straightforward,” she told Rolling Stone. “There’s so many parallels to the movie that it was almost an obvious choice.”

The idea for the cover came from Heretic directors Scott Beck and Bryan Woods. “I knew the song, obviously,” Thatcher said. “I’d never actually heard the Guns N’ Roses version, which is funny, because when people would bring it up to me I was like, ‘No, what do you mean? It’s Bob Dylan.’ So that was good that I didn’t know that. No shade, but it’s just very different. And I think hearing the Dylan version, I only knew the very soulful approach to it, rather than rock.”

Heretic is out in theaters beginning tonight.

The 'Diet Pepsi' singer deserves to be taken seriously.]]> Addison Rae Will Win You Over(1024X450)

Getty Image/Merle Cooper

For years, Addison Rae was a name that I recognized, but refused to learn why she was famous. I knew it had something to do with TikTok, but I, a millennial without an Instagram account, was content making that None Of My Business. My ignorance extended to her debut single, “Obsessed,” released in 2021 to scathing reviews. But then it was announced she was working with Charli XCX, and suddenly, I was forced to learn who Addison Rae is. I’m glad I did.

The first sign that I underestimated Rae was her 2023 EP, AR. The cover has her blowing a bubble with gum, an appropriate choice for the deep appreciation of bubblegum pop — and shiny electropop — in “I Got It Bad.” (One of the song’s producers is Rami Yacoub, who worked on “…Baby One More Time.”) “2 Die 4” features Charli XCX and wouldn’t sound out of place on Brat, while “Nothing On (But The Radio)” — originally intended for Lady Gaga — would have been blasting out of every radio in the 2000s. Instead, AR did well on Spotify, and Rae was beginning to win over the doubters.

Earlier this year, Rae appeared on Charli XCX’s “Von Dutch” remix (it’s good to be friends with Charli; she’s like Adam Sandler in that respect). She also released “Diet Pepsi,” her first song since signing with major label Columbia Records. Once again, I was skeptical, although this time for a different reason: Diet Coke > Diet Pepsi. But “Diet Pepsi,” the song, is a promising turning point for Rae. She isn’t as expressive a vocalist as Lana Del Rey, but there are breathy Lana-like inflections to “Diet Pepsi” (no references to how a certain part of her body tastes, however). But whereas LDR is interested in exploring a curdled Americana, Rae is here for a good time, possibly a long time. It seems silly to call a song about having sex in the backseat of a car “mature,” but “Diet Pepsi” is an artist demanding to be taken seriously.

It’s always interesting when an artist is asked to define their sound. What is “Addisoncore” to Addison Rae? It’s “lots of laughs, a good time, and openness.” In other words, it’s “Aquamarine.” The ethereal follow-up single to “Diet Pepsi” is gloriously unsubtle — “The world is my oyster / Baby, come touch the pearl” — but subtly isn’t what we’re here for. “Aquamarine” is hot girl music (complimentary). It’s the sound of smoking two cigarettes at once or a dance routine in a grungy alley in a glamorous city, just because it looks cool.

Maybe the best word to describe Rae is unapologetic. I think back to an interview she did with Interview where she was asked when she feels the hottest. “I definitely feel the hottest after a workout or when I have a tan,” she said. “When I have a tan, I feel hot and sexy and with no makeup. But I love the post-gym moment, like looking at my body naked after a workout, taking off my clothes, my hair’s wet. I have super flushed cheeks and I can tell my body just worked so hard for me. I feel like that’s when I feel the sexiest.”

Most people would feign humility here or make up something about how they feel hot when they’re reading a book with a cup of tea, or whatever. But not Addison Rae. She’s answering truthfully, confidently, unapologetically. As Charli XCX told Vogue, “She was like no one I’d ever met really. Not jaded. Not faking. Not uncomfortable. Not trying to be anything other than herself.” First with the AR EP and now in “Diet Pepsi” and “Aquamarine,” you can hear Rae’s conviction in herself extending to her increasingly dynamic music.

Addison Rae has won me over, and if you give her a chance, she’ll make a believer (or “Sunrae”) out of you, too.

By some accounts, “White Christmas” by Bing Crosby is the best-selling single of all time. It’s about to get even more popular, 47 years after the singer’s death, thanks to V. The BTS member teamed up with the Crosby estate for “White Christmas (With V Of BTS),” a duet between V and Crosby of the eternal Christmas classic. It comes out on December 6 at midnight ET.

“I’m so grateful to have had the chance to be featured in a song with my all time favorite jazz artist, Bing Crosby,” V said in a statement. “I grew up listening to his song ‘It’s Been a Long, Long Time’ countless times a day, and I feel incredibly fortunate and honored to have sung along on ‘White Christmas’ with the voice of someone I consider an idol. Being a huge fan of his, I sang with the utmost sincerity and admiration for him, and I hope many people enjoy it as much as I enjoyed singing it. Lastly, I wish a lovely holiday season to everyone listening to the song.”

Crosby’s daughter Mary added, “As a family, we are thrilled to have V and Dad singing together on this ultimate Christmas song. Their voices blend beautifully, capturing the holiday spirit in the best possible way.” Meanwhile, his son, Harry, is “incredibly excited about V joining Dad for the duet of ‘White Christmas.’ We are happy that V will help share the joy of this timeless Christmas song.”

On Stranger Things, today, November 6, is the day that Will Byers was abducted into the Upside Down. Forty-one years after that event, Netflix has announced some exciting news about the fifth and final season of the show.

Stranger Things season 5 is confirmed to premiere in 2025, as expected. The streaming service also released the titles of the final eight episodes, which will take place in 1987:

-“The Crawl”
-“The Vanishing of…”
-“The Turnbow Trap”
-“Sorcerer”
-“Shock Jock”
-“Escape From Camazotz”
-“The Bridge”
-“The Rightside Up”

The full title of the episode “The Vanishing of…” wasn’t fully revealed in the announcement video, which you can watch here, but it’s a reference to the series premiere, “The Vanishing of Will Byers.” Who will vanish this time? The series finale is also a callback to the season 1 finale, “The Upside Down.”

“The end of this episode when we were reading it — just us reading it — about halfway through, people started crying,” star David Harbour recently shared about the final episode of Stranger Things. “Then about the last 20 minutes, it was just uncontrollably crying, waves of different people.” He added that it’s “the best episode they’ve ever done.”

It’s still unknown if every episode of Stranger Things season 5 will be released at once, or if the season will be split into two “volumes,” like in season 4.

Pharrell Williams wasn’t “happy” working at McDonald’s. McDonald’s wasn’t particularly pleased with him, either. The super-producer and subject of the Piece By Piece biopic recently recalled being fired by the fast food king.

“McDonald’s was my first and only job,” Williams told BBC Radio 2, according to Billboard. “I got fired three times. I was eating the chicken nuggets. The first two times it was just because I was lazy. The third was like, ‘What are you doing? You’re just sitting there eating nuggets?'”

Pharrell (who, in a full-circle twist, is a credited producer on a song based on McDonald’s iconic “I’m Lovin’ It” jingle) is in good company: Rachel McAdams was also canned by McDonald’s, although not for eating McNuggets.

“[I worked at McDonald’s] for a good three years. My sister and brother worked there. My sister was my manager,” the Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret actress told Glamour. “It was a great place to work, but I had a little bit of an OCD thing with hand washing and just didn’t have time. They were like, ‘Hey, the drive-through’s backing up. Stop washing your hands!’ I was not a great employee; I broke the orange juice machine one day.”

In her Saturday Night Live debut, Chappell Roan performed two songs: “Pink Pony Club” and “The Giver,” a new country-tinged ode to how “only a woman knows how to treat a woman right” (wink). She also filmed a promo with host John Mulaney and cast member Ego Nwodim while wearing an elaborate outfit designed by Project Runway alum Gunnar Deatherage.

The look was originally going to debut at one of Roan’s music festival dates, but “as we kept building and the look kept evolving and getting cooler and more complex, it was apparent that this look needed to be seen in a more stationary moment, rather than jumping around on stage,” Deatherage explained to People. “Because the last thing we wanted to do is prohibit Chappell from being able to be Chappell on stage — prohibit the magic.”

Deatherage reckons it took around 500 hours to complete the ensemble. “It’s actually the most complex look that we’ve done,” he said. “I think a lot of that was because… we were originally thinking that it had to hold up to an hour-long performance. So we really took those precautions to make sure that everything was made really beautifully.”

There are currently 24 titles on Netflix‘s “Interactive Specials” page. You better watch 20 of them while you still can.

The Verge reports that on December 1, 2024, Netflix “will delist just about all of its interactive shows and films,” including kid-friendly titles Puss in Book: Trapped in an Epic Tale, Carmen Sandiego: To Steal or Not to Steal, and Barbie: Epic Road Trip (probably not as epic as this one, though). “The technology served its purpose, but is now limiting as we focus on technological efforts in other areas,” Netflix spokesperson Chrissy Kelleher said.

So, which interactive specials will remain on Netflix? Black Mirror: Bandersnatch isn’t going anywhere. Neither is Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt: Kimmy vs. the Reverend, Ranveer vs. Wild with Bear Grylls, and You vs. Wild.

Black Mirror: Bandersnatch follows a programmer in the 1980s who’s trying to adapt a choose-your-own adventure novel into a video game. It was released on 2018 and won two Emmys, including Outstanding Television Movie.

“It should be more so felt as an experience,” Black Mirror producer Annabel Jones told The Hollywood Reporter about Bandersnatch. “Depending on which route you take, you may feel like you have come to a natural point where you feel sated. There are a number of distinct what we call ‘endings’ but you may not feel that is an ending. They all build and payoff. There are many ways that you can watch the film, but it should all build to one interactive experience.”

Frank Ocean might be setting aside his music career to make a movie. Here's all the latest details.]]> Frank Ocean

Getty Image

Since putting out the stunning Nostalgia, Ultra EP in 2011, Frank Ocean has only released two albums: 2012’s Channel Orange and 2016’s Blonde, both stone-cold masterpieces. (There’s also the visual album Endless, but that was mainly an opportunity to f*ck over Def Jam.) Ocean has teased that a new album might be in the works, but like another member of the Odd Future collective, he has other creative passions — including directing a movie?

Here’s everything we know about the rumored Untitled Frank Ocean Movie, as I’m going to call it for lack of an official title, including plot details and the cast.

Plot

Back in 2022, Discussing Film reported that Ocean is “looking to write and direct his own feature film,” and that “indie distributors A24 and 2AM are in talks to make it happen.”

No plot details were provided, but if a Frank Ocean-directed movie is going to end up anywhere, it’s A24. His songs are all over 2019’s Waves (“I was listening to those albums and dreaming about making this movie,” writer and director Trey Edward Shults said), and he wrote the forward to the Moonlight screenplay book. 2AM is less established, having only been founded in 2021, but the production company is building a promising track record: Bodies Bodies Bodies, Past Lives, and the upcoming (and very erotic) Babygirl.

That initial news — which, it’s worth nothing, hasn’t been confirmed by A24 — was the last we heard about Untitled Frank Ocean Movie. Until…

Cast

_The InSneider_‘s Jeff Sneider reported this week that Taylor Russell is “in talks” to star in Untitled Frank Ocean Movie.

The actress previously starred in Waves, so there is a loose connection to Ocean, although she’s best known for her magnificent performance in Luca Guadagnino’s cannibal romance Bones and All. Russell’s co-star in Bones and All? Timothée Chalamet, who was interviewed by Ocean back in 2018.

You can read the highlights here (the original source, VMan, doesn’t work anymore), but my favorite part is when Ocean brings up Chalamet’s high school alter ego, rapper Timmy T. “Oh, f*ck. I can’t believe you saw the statistics video. That’s embarrassing,” the Dune: Part Two actor said, to which Ocean replied, “I saw it on Ellen. I figured if Ellen’s talking about it, then it’s fair game.” (2018 was only six years ago, but it feels like 60.)

Release Date

No release date has been announced, and as someone on the Frank Ocean subreddit joked (?), “Well once Frank sees this post, he’ll probably scrap the whole project.”

Trailer

I’m thinkin bout the Untitled Frank Ocean Movie trailer… which unfortunately doesn’t exist yet. Hopefully soon!

Scavengers Reign is one of the best animated shows in recent years, with a perfect 100 percent “Fresh” rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Unfortunately, the Emmy-winning series, which follows the survivors of a spaceship that lands on a bizarre alien planet, has not been picked up for season 2.

“As of right now, Scavengers Reign is not being renewed for a second season,” co-creator Joe Bennett wrote on Instagram. “I wanted to let everyone know directly because I really love our fanbase, they’ve been such champions for the show, and I don’t want to leave everyone hanging.”

Scavengers Reign premiered on Max before Netflix acquired the streaming rights in the hopes of finding a bigger audience.

Bennett continued, “We’ve had to fight tooth and nail every step of the way to get this show made, starting all the way back in 2016 with the Scavengers short film to the release of the first season last year. It’s a case study for believing in something and persevering through a million and one hurdles. But, it got made, thanks especially to so many people who supported it along the way, in big and small ways.”

After thanking the show’s animators, among others, Bennett vowed that “this is not the end. There is more story to be told, we are ready to make another season, and we produced in-house at Green Street a teaser for what was going to come in the second season.” You can see that here. Also, watch Scavengers Reign! It’s very good.

Olivia Rodrigo and Grimes both want to put some space between themselves and dudes who are obsessed with going to space.

Over the weekend, Netflix shared a clip of the “Get Him Back!” singer — who released her Guts World Tour concert film on the streaming service — sharing her biggest red flag when it comes to dating. “This is a very oddly specific question that I ask guys on first dates,” Rodrigo said. “I always ask them if they think that they would want to go to space. And if they say yes, I don’t date them.” She added, “I just think if you wanna go to space, you’re a little too full of yourself. I think it’s just weird.”

Is that a not-so-veiled shot at Elon Musk? Grimes, who dated the SpaceX founder on and off for four years, appears to think so — and she agrees. “It’s true,” she wrote on X. “Only women should be going to space.” (Now we know her favorite Janelle Monáe song.)

Grimes recently spoke out against people assuming he got her into AI. “Just saying my ex made me obsessed with tech and ai,” she wrote. “My arts always been full of refs – and I’ve always tried to stay on the cutting edge of tech for art. Pete Davidson returned to SNL this weekend, looking different than the last time he appeared on the late-night comedy series. The actor and comedian popped up in the John Mulaney-hosted episode playing a Duane Reade customer in the now-requisite musical sketch. He wore a Rodney Dangerfield shirt showing off his arms, which have noticeably less tattoos than they used to.

Davidson has been slowly getting his tattoos removed in order to book more roles. “I honestly never thought that I would get an opportunity to act and I love it a lot,” he explained on Late Night with Seth Meyers in 2021. “It takes, like, three hours — you have to get there, like, three hours earlier — to cover all your tattoos. For some reason, people in movies, they don’t have them much.”

That same year, he also confessed to People that he’s “made a lot of questionable choices, and a couple of them need removing. But now I’m trying to make smarter choices… We’re shooting some stuff and it takes like a month for it to heal. But like it’s pretty much off this hand. Even the most dedicated CBS viewer has a hard time keeping track of all the network’s spin offs. NCIS has been around since 2003, but now there’s NCIS: Sydney, NCIS: Origins, and the upcoming NCIS: Tony & Ziva. CBS also has FBI, FBI: Most Wanted, and FBI: International, as well as the delightful Elsbeth, based on Carrie Preston’s character from The Good Wife and The Good Fight.

But that’s not at all!

Fire Country already has one announced spin off starring Morena Baccarin and possibly another with Jared Padalecki, who is making his debut in season 3 of the original series later this month. If you’re a fan of the actor’s work in his many shows, including Gilmore Girls, Supernatural, and Walker, you might be wondering what this firefighter drama is all about. We have you covered.

Here’s everything to know about Fire Country.

Plot

Fire Country is about Bode Leone, who, midway through a five-year prison stretch, signs up for “an unconventional prison-release program: in exchange for reduced sentences, convicts are paired with firefighters battling Northern California wildfires,” according to the official plot synopsis from CBS. “The heat is turned up when Bode’s assigned to the program in his rural hometown, the place where all his troubles began.” If you want to catch up on everything that’s happened, season 1 is on Netflix and seasons 1 and 2 are on Paramount Plus, but let’s fast forward to season 3 where Bode is still putting his life on the line on his way to becoming a full-time firefighter.

One of the big arcs this season is the introduction of Camden Casey, played by Jared Padalecki. The character is described as a “maverick with a surfer swagger who is a force to be reckoned with and immediately recognizes Bode’s raw talent.”

Fire Country showrunner Tia Napolitano teased how the Gilmore Girls alum will shake things up. “Everyone sort of treats Bode like this tiger they’re trying to tame,” she told TV Line, “and Camden kind of says, ‘Why would you try to tame a tiger? Like, let him out!’ He leans into Bode’s dangerous side, his raw talent, his instincts, all of these things that we’ve sort of tried to keep in check for his own success. He fans the flames of Bode’s instincts in a really fun way.”

Padalecki will appear in three episodes beginning November 15, but that might not be the last we see of Camden. Deadline reports that “there is a possibility for the guest stint to lead to a new spinoff headlined by him.” Padalecki has consistently been on television since 2000, when he made his Gilmore Girls debut. Don’t bet against him headlining another show.

Cast

Fire Country stars Max Thieriot as inmate-turned-firefighter Bode Leone; Diane Farr and Billy Burke as Sharon and Vince Leone, Bode’s mother and father; Stephanie Arcila as firefighter and paramedic Gabriela Perez; and Jordan Calloway, Jules Latimer, and Kevin Alejandro as firefighters Jake Crawford, Eve Edwards, and Manny Perez (there’s a lot of firefighters on the firefighters show).

Release Date

Fire Country airs on CBS on Friday nights at 9 pm. You can also watch new episodes the next day on Paramount Plus.

pixar

Pixar has made some of the greatest animated films of all-time, including _Toy Story_… and _Toy Story 2_… and _Toy Story 3_… and Toy Story 4. WALL-E, Finding Nemo, and Monsters Inc. aren’t too shabby, either. But now the animation studio is turning the Luxo Jr-like spotlight towards television.

Win or Lose is Pixar’s first long-form original series (I’m guessing the pre-Disney acquisition Buzz Lightyear of Star Command doesn’t count because it was episodic?), and it’s coming to Disney Plus very soon. But how soon?

Here’s everything you need to know about Win or Lose, including plot details, the voice cast, and the release date.

Plot

Win or Lose follows a co-ed middle school softball team, the Pickles, in the week leading up to their championship game. Every episode is told from a different perspective. The players, their parents, and the umpires all get center stage, revealing “their funny, emotional, and always relatable point of view in a unique visual style,” according to the official logline.

The series is created, written, and directed by Carrie Hobson and Michael Yates, who both worked on Toy Story 4. That’s where the idea of Win or Lose was formed. “Me and Carrie were officemates on Toy Story 4 and a lot of times we would come out of a meeting with different impressions of how that meeting went,” Yates told Cartoon Brew. “That was something that really fascinated us. It’s interesting that you can both be in the same room and experience something completely different.” Hobson added, “[We] wanted to explore the idea that everyone has a different perspective in life, so what if you could walk in someone else’s shoes?”

Hobson also talked about their love of animation as a medium.

“We just love working with our animators, because it’s about the performance, the feeling that you relate to them. We wanted to make sure that we had characters that could be expressive and that our animators could have fun with, and you feel like it’s a caricatured sincerity. So, it’s not just cartoony. It’s cartoony with intention.”

Pixar chief creative officer Pete Docter called Win or Lose “a major, first-of-its-kind tentpole series, one that really showcases what I think makes our studio great: bold, imaginative storytelling; laugh-out-loud humor; and characters that we can all relate to.” I was in the building when Win or Lose debuted at D23 in 2022, and I was impressed by the footage I saw. It was funny and charming, which is what you want from a Pixar production. Well, that, and a scene that will make you uncontrollably weep.

Cast

The voice cast of Win or Lose is led by the always funny Will Forte as Coach Dan. There’s also Ian Chen (Fresh Off the Boat), Izaac Wang (Good Boys and Raya and the Last Dragon), Jo Firestone (Joe Pera Talks with You), Milan Ray (The Wonder Years), Josh Thomson (the Australian version of The Office), Erin Keif (Hello from the Magic Tavern), and Rosie Foss.

Release Date

Win or Lose comes to Disney+ on February 19, 2025. It’s unclear whether every episode will be released at once or spread out over the course of eight weeks.

Bon Iver (“Bonny Bear”) is coming out of hibernation.

The Justin Vernon-led group released an EP, SABLE, and they also launched a new website. Counterpart is described as “an experiment and a search for more voices who might step into the fold, make something new and embody the role of Bon Iver.” Fans are asked to share photos, audio or videos in response to prompts like “Could the essence of a song lie outside the voice that first sang it?” and “Do you have a friend that resembles Justin Vernon?”

You can check out Counterpart here.

In a recent interview with The New Yorker, Vernon discussed the identity behind a song. “I believe in the power of the individual — don’t get me wrong — but I’ve always just found that it distracts from the point. Why do we like a song? Is it because of who’s singing it to us? Or is it the song? And I just think it’s the song. For me, it is. For me, it’s about the song and what the music does. It can be very distracting when it becomes, ‘Oh, I love Bon Iver so much. I want more Bon Iver. I want to see Bon Iver. I want to get his autograph.’ I’m sensitive to it, and the attention can be overwhelming. I’m also uncomfortable with it because it distracts from the point that music delivered me to myself.”

Dua Lipa, Megan Thee Stallion, and Olivia Rodrigo are doing just fine after winning Best New Artist at the Grammys.]]> The Best New Artist Curse(1024X450)

The first winner for Best New Artist at the Grammy Awards was Bobby Darin in 1960. In his decades-long career, he had nine top-10 singles, only one of which was about splishing and splashing. The second winner in the category was legendary comedian Bob Newhart (who also, amusingly, won Album of the Year). Other honorees in the 1960s include Robert Goulet (remained popular throughout the rest of his life), José Feliciano (an icon with the rare Christmas song that’s hard to get sick of), and The Beatles (literally The Beatles).

There’s a common perception that winning Best New Artist is a death sentence for an artist / band. I’m not sure this has ever been true (see, again: The Beatles), but it certainly hasn’t been true recently. The last six winners of the welcome-to-the-big-leagues award: Dua Lipa, Billie Eilish, Megan Thee Stallion, Olivia Rodrigo, Samara Joy, and Victoria Monét. Those are some huge, critically and/or commercially successful artists (Joy was a niche pick, but since she won over Måneskin, it was the correct one).

In the 2010s, you have Zac Brown Band, Bon Iver, Sam Smith, and Meghan Trainor, which is the first and last time Bon Iver and Meghan Trainor will appear in the same sentence. Say what you will about the “All About That Bass” singer / walking Target commercial, she’s undeniably popular. Going further back to the 2000s, there’s Christina Aguilera, Alicia Keys, Carrie Underwood, Maroon 5, Amy Winehouse, and Adele. That’s a strong batting average, not always in terms of authorial admiration (Joanna Newsom was snubbed!), but it does debunk the idea that winning Best New Artist dooms an act to following immediate glory with falling off the face of the earth.

So, where does this idea of a Best New Artist curse come from? There’s a trio of possibilities, or more likely, a combination of all three.

-In 1976, Starland Vocal Band released “Afternoon Delight.” It was one of the year’s best-selling singles (it also inspired both a Ron Burgundy sing-along and a regrettable tattoo). But only five years later, the breezy group broke up. “[We] got two of the five Grammys [and] one was Best New Artist,” Starland Vocal Band member Taffy Nivert recalled on an episode of VH1’s nostalgia-bait 100 Greatest One-Hit Wonders special. “So that was basically the kiss of death and I feel sorry for everyone who’s gotten it since.”

-Only three artists have taken home The Big Four of Album Of The Year, Record Of The Year, Song Of The Year, and Best New Artist in the same year: Christopher Cross, Adele, and Billie Eilish. Adele and Eilish are doing just fine, but Cross was never able to replicate the instant success of “Sailing” and, released later that year, the Oscar winning “Arthur’s Theme (Best That You Can Do).” He only had one more top-10 hit, 1983’s “Think Of Laura.”

-Best New Artist is notorious for being the only Grammys category with a vacated award. In February 1990, Milli Vanilli won Best New Artist; nine months later, they returned the trophy following a lip-syncing scandal.

The Milli Vanilli scandal, in particular, put a dark cloud over Best New Artist, but you know who won the next year? Mariah Carey. There’s always been peaks and valleys; it’s just that the clunkers stand out more. The Grammys probably want a redo on picking Macklemore and Ryan Lewis over Kendrick Lamar (Macklemore sure would); Esperanza Spalding was a noble if confusing selection over Justin Bieber, Drake, and Florence and the Machine; and fun., who won over Frank Ocean, isn’t even Jack Antonoff’s most famous band. (Although giving him a Grammy proved wise in the long run.)

Here’s the dirty not-so-secret about the Grammys, and every awards show: sometimes they get it “right” (taste is subjective, blah blah blah), often times they get it “wrong.” A lot of stone-cold masterpieces have been named Best Album (Songs In The Key Of Life! Time Out Of Mind! Golden Hour!) but there’s been a lot of bewildering winners, too (River: The Joni Letters? Babel? The First Family?). But you never hear about a Best Album Curse. The curse label is attached to Best New Artist because society is fascinated by the suddenly famous — and, for some, seeing their downfall is equally captivating. It’s also the Grammys attempting to predict the future, rather than honor the present. And recently, with Dua, Megan, and Olivia, they’ve done a better job of avoiding the one-hit-wonders (“Walking In Memphis” still goes hard).

If Chappell Roan, who seems certain to win Best New Artist at the 2025 Grammys (nominations are announced next Friday, November 8), came around 20 years ago, maybe she would have something to worry about. Not anymore.

You would think that the possibly final movie from one of America’s greatest filmmakers would be in at least 3,000 theaters in its opening weekend, right? Right…? Well, that’s not the case with Juror #2, the new legal thriller from director Clint Eastwood. As previously reported by Variety, Warner Bros. Pictures is “putting out the feature in a limited release of less than 50 theaters [with] no current plans to expand to more locations in the following weeks.”

That’s despite excellent reviews from critics (91 percent on Rotten Tomatoes) and a strong premise. In Juror #2, Nicholas Hoult plays Justin Kemp, a family man serving as a juror in a murder trial who “finds himself struggling with a serious moral dilemma… one he could use to sway the jury verdict and potentially convict — or free — the accused killer,” according to the logline.

So, how can you watch Juror #2? Well, if you’re in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, and about a dozen other markets across the country, it’s in theaters now (you can see the full list here). For pretty much everywhere else, you’ll have to wait until it’s streaming on Max. No date has been announced yet.

Outside of The Menu actor, Juror #2 also stars Toni Collette, J.K. Simmons, Chris Messina, Gabriel Basso, Zoey Deutch, Cedric Yarbrough, Leslie Bibb, Kiefer Sutherland, Amy Aquino, and Adrienne C. Moore.

Ahead of his Camp Flog Gnaw Carnival, Tyler The Creator performed in Boston on Halloween for a special “30 Minutes Of _Chromakopia_” concert. It’s exactly what it sounds like: 30 minutes of the former Odd Future member’s new album, Chromakopia. During the show, the “Sticky” rapper addressed certain Taylor Swift fans trying to “cancel” him over old lyrics after he (briefly) dethroned her on the global Spotify Top Artists chart.

“I got Swifties all mad at me with their racist ass,” he said. “Bringing up old lyrics, b*tch, go listen to ‘Tron Cat,’ I don’t give a f*ck. They gonna bring out the old me.”

You can watch the footage here.

Tyler has brought up Swift multiple times in his songs. On “Fish,” from 2011’s Goblin, he rapped, “B*tches running ’round down, p*ssy take a trip / Make her strip, got my d*ck harder than the unzip / Tyler swiftly slips his d*ck inside of Taylor Swift’s slit / Round trip in that p*ssy, here comes a ticket.” Earlier in the album, on “Nightmare,” he goes, “Love? I don’t get none, that’s why I’m so hostile to the kids that get some / My father called me to tell me he loved me / I’d have a better chance of gettin’ Taylor Swift to f*ck me.”

Pat Sajak saw a lot of terrible 'Wheel of Fortune' guesses in his time. Now it's Ryan Seacrest's turn.]]> wheel

Sony Pictures Television

Ryan Seacrest has been the host of Wheel of Fortune for less than two months, and on Wednesday’s episode of the game show, he witnessed what’s being called the “worst guess” of his brief tenure.

To set the scene, the category was “Same Name” and the board read “CAR & IN_INIT_ POOL.” Instead of solving the puzzle or asking for an “F” or “Y,” contestant Sharay guessed “B.” As noted by TV Insider, “Silence filled the studio as Vanna White crooked her head in sympathy, and Seacrest shared that there was no ‘B.'” Someone clearly isn’t familiar with the films of director Brandon Cronenberg; otherwise, she would have known it was “CAR & INFINITY POOL.” Not, uh, “CAR & INBINITY (or INFINITB) POOL”?

“Is this the worst guess in the history of #wheeloffortune?” one Wheel of Fortune viewer wrote on X. In the replies, another person added, “That was the absolute worst!! where would that even fit in at.” A separate tweet was equally bewildered at her guess. “Bruh, this lady only had the f & y missing in infinity on wheel of fortune & she asked for a b… a b where ma’am,” the Wheel fan wrote. Poor Sharay should probably just get off social media for now.
