UWB is a communication technology that occupies a minimum bandwidth of 500 MHz or greater than 20% of the operating central frequency. The entire UWB spectrum ranges from 3.1 GHz-10.6 GHz. UWB devices operate by employing a series of very short electrical pulses (billionths of a second long) that result in very wide transmission bandwidths. Use of typical resonating antennas is eliminated due to the large bandwidth which also sets challenging demands for antenna design.
