Moreover, the ideas that model the interactions of a multi-agent system cannot be related only to the agents and their communication skills in gaining strength, but it is necessary to use the concepts of organizational engineering. This paper presents a comprehensive list of development issues for primary adaptive virtual organizations (AVO). These issues will be a starting point for defining a complete list of AVO development requirements. From these requirements it could be possible to define an abstract architecture specifically addressed to the design of open multi-agent systems and virtual organizations.

In order to build virtual organizations, THOMAS offers mechanisms to take into account their structure, behaviour, dynamic, norms and environment. Moreover, one of the primary characteristics of the THOMAS architecture is the use of agents with reasoning and planning capabilities. These agents can perform a dynamic reorganization when they detect changes in the environment. The proposed architecture is composed of a set of related modules that are appropriate for developing systems in highly volatile environments similar to the one presented in this study. This paper presents THOMAS as well as the results obtained after having applied the system to a case study.

The approach allows the integration of unbounded deliberative processes with critical real-time tasks. CBP-BDI deliberative 11 agents collaborate with ARTIS agents in order to solve real-time problems efficiently. The proposal has been successfully tested and eval-12 uated in a case study based on the use of mobile robots for mail delivery. 13

The proposal takes into account all the components to cover the characteristics and needs for systems of this kind. This architecture has been called THOMAS (MeTH ods, Techniques and Tools for Open M ulti-Agent S ystems) and consists of a set of modular services.

ABC4MAS allows: (i) to set up a collaboration environment (CE) as a virtual organisation; (ii) to reach agreements within the CE to form short-term business collaborations; (iii) to enact business collaborations; and (iv) to track the performance of agents within business collaborations to build their trust and reputation within the CE.

We study the discrete-time form of this algorithm. We use standard techniques from matrix theory to prove the main result. As a particular case one can obtain well-known results for non-weighted average consensus. We also give a corollary for undirected graphs.

In these cases, it is well known that one can find a numbering of the vertices such that the adjacency matrix A is block diagonal with k blocks. This also holds for the (unnormalized) Laplacian matrix L = D − A, with D a diagonal matrix with the degrees of the nodes. In this paper we propose to use the Reverse Cuthill-McKee (RCM) algorithm to obtain a block diagonal form of L that reveals the number of connected components of the graph. We present some theoretical results about the irreducibility of the Laplacian matrix ordered by the RCM algorithm. As a practical application we present a very efficient method to detect connected components with a computational cost of O(m + n), being m the number of edges and n the number of nodes. The RCM method is implemented in some comercial packages like MATLAB and Mathematica. We make the computations by using the function symrcm of MATLAB. Some numerical results are shown.
