Timing of Daniel Bell’s ‘end of ideology’ thesis was critical, coming in the era that re-invented the American megachurch phenomenon, from an earlier era, in the 1920s (e.g. Aimee Semple McPherson). Since Dwight Lyman Moody, each new pattern of the megachurch is a new resurgence in a pro-business narrative. Historiographically, Bell’s thesis differs to Francis Fukuyama’s The End of History and the Last Man (1992). The common view, coming from the 1990s neo-liberal ethos, was that the popular culture would ignore the ideological pulls in the de-ideological economic redemption of business.

Too many Americans either cannot see through Donald Trump’s lies or they do not care, and it may be both unintellectual motivations. I did warn that if Trump won the 2024 election it’s about the decline of American education.

Henk Bak has produced a book, “World-Views in Dialogue,” with the sub-title, “Towards renewal of the Golden Rule in understanding and in action.” Added on the cover is the words, “Reflection of an intercultural/interfaith – ‘walking mediation’ project at Evera, Trentham, Victoria – Australia.” Henk Bak is one of those rare and leading global-Australian scholars who are situated.
This is an important background essay for Bak’s work, introducing the thinking of Johann Wolfgang von Goethe and Rudolf Steiner and how it is being used today; and following the publication in 2007 of John Armstrong’s Love, Life, Goethe: How to be Happy in an Imperfect World (Penguin Press).

Next year (2025) marks the 60th anniversary of the first successes in sales for this Australian masterpiece in non-technical sociology. There have been many articles in the Journal of Sociology which have skirted around the question, but Connell returned to the question in 2006. The answer can be comprehensively answered by examining the cultural criticisms made by Donald Horne in the 1960s and by examining the sociology of philosophies from Randall Collins in the 1990s. The Australian academy has not come to grips with understanding the answer to the question why the role of the intellectual in the Australian economy is ignored or minimised. If it were the case of such change, Australian universities would be in total revolt against current higher education policies.

I work on a day-to-day basis to support this concept.
Many people support this concept.
Many people don't think about this concept.
Many people work against this concept.
It appears to me that the measure of the concept arises in praxis.
To some degree the 'concept of the level playing field' is similar to what Pizzorno refers to when he talks about 'rationality' - that rationality does not sit outside any event - rationality is calibrated within and 'by' an event.
The concept of the level playing field is a mode of thought like rationality and justice and is therefore subject to its context i.e. the context within which the level playing field is a term that is meaningful and accessible to those within that context.
It could be similar also, to what Stiegler calls a 'consistence' something that is an 'a priori' - a pre-given that does not 'exist' but 'consists of'- e.g. - justice is a consistence whereas the law is what exists.”

I had, though, never really understood the spiral of history, and could not imagine how the impact of ART would contribute to our current Trumpian and Putinian state of affairs. At the time, the "American empire" was, again, on the ascent, and the "Russian Empire" had collapse. With the rise of the economically-driven American secular nationalism, came the reinvigorated Christian nationalism of the 1990s, as the Institutional Church is the handmaiden to the State. The new Evangelical outlook built on the nationalism of the 1950s in the paradigms of anti-communism and American Modernism (or "Americanism") to which Robert Wuthnow describes as "American Religion"; also Harold Bloom in "The American Religion: The Emergence of the Post-Christian Nation" (1992; second edition 2006). From the roots of American modernist nationalism, developed the 1960s of William F. Buckley's neo-conservativism, the 1970s Moral Majority, the 1980s New Christian Right, and, of late, the 1990s, with succession into the early 21st century, of the Evangelical Religious-Rightist Alliance.

Each stage is explained as the four main steps in the spiralling action. Manning Clark and Donald Horne, from the two ends of the political spectrum, had already given us four stages of spiral historiography, in the previous era of 1945-1985. The last stage of the spiral is historical forgetfulness. And the cycle of the spiral begins again in the historical memory, which is not re-discovery, as direct realism, but the shades of ideas brought back to a new life. How stupid we are in not paying attention to the intellectual histories which just spiral around, a little forward, and a little retreat.

“The American media totally ignored this stuff until Donald Trump and I started talking about cat memes. If I have to create stories so that the American media actually pays attention to the suffering of the American people, then that’s what I’m going to do.” [spoken by J.D. Vance]
In the biblical motif it is the ‘snake’ or ‘serpent’ that tempted Eve. If we took the biblical story literally there are serious problems we have in our modern world. But if the uneducated thinks that a person can avoid the literal problem by rejecting the modern belief system, as in dismissing it in total, they are ignorant of how much of their own thinking is actually modernly constructed (most of everyone’s thoughts in the present).

This is a teaching document in urban studies and urban sociology. The document addresses critical problems in the State Government’s South East Queensland Regional Plan 2023 Update (SEQRP).
National Parks (Maps 3, 26) has historically been thin on the South East Queensland landscape. The key message of the South East Queensland’s urban sociology is the history of the totalising urban sprawl on top of the environment history in massive land clearance for the early stages of rural industries (1842-1925). The two years in the parenthesis relates to the first development of Brisbane township (1842) to the formation of the Greater Brisbane Council (1925). This is the very reason why National Parks (Map 3) has historically been thin on the South East Queensland landscape, and the strips of agriculture land, in Map 26, is all that is left from the urban sprawl. The problem of contemporary city and regional planning is that it is in the forgetfulness, or perhaps isolation-thinking, to the big-picture trends of urban histories and in critical local studies. In other words, there is very poor ecological thinking, not merely as to “the natural” environment, but sufficient thinking to “the human” environment” which is 100% in ‘the natural’ thought paradigm.

A letter to explain my position in life before departing for my 2023 American Tour.
Dear American friends, I am leaving Brisbane, Queensland, Australia, tonight, for a country I have critically admired my whole life. It is the second trip, the last in 30 years (1991-1992). An intelligent conversation, the last few days, has indicated to me that I need to clarify where I am coming from as an American-Australian relational scholar. My concern is national and cultural bubble of cognition, and the question I wrestle with is the wilfulness. And I here I admit to my own national and cultural bubble of cognition. Perhaps, we can all help each other in understanding. What I am saying is that Europeans, others in the world, AND liberal-thinking Americans, can identify an American bubble of stupidity and ignorance. That is admittedly harsh and is no doubt shaped in different national and cultural bubbles of cognition.

Sartre provided one version, but it has been influential in the general semantics for the last 75 years and more. His partners in ‘French existentialism’, Albert Camus and Simone de Beauvoir, provided different but related versions of humanism. Beauvoir’s ‘softer’ or feminine existentialism explains subjectivity, intersubjectivity, and humanism better, since it had more regard to gendering, and the thinking can be explored in de Beauvoir’s ‘the ethics of ambiguity’ and the autobiographical ‘All Said and Done.’

Introduction of the Essay: The essay begins with a broad definitional approach to asking what is... more Introduction of the Essay:
The essay begins with a broad definitional approach to asking what is “plurality in and of thought.” The start is examining how Margaret Canovan (1983) ties Hannah Arendt's political thought to Rousseau's. From there is an examination of the literature in Moral Theory and Ethics, Reason and Epistemology (including Schooling and Ontology), and finally, Political Frameworks of Plurality and Dismissal, for the definitional approach for plurality in and of thought.
Throughout the essay are explanations of background thinking to the plurality set of themes, according to each essay section.
The second section of the essay examines how function and ideals work together and fail when separated out in the bubble thought. The second section is approached by examining the ideas of structure and belief; the examination of ‘The Good’; and an examination of humanism.
The third section looks at the idea of dismissal and the multi-education of history-sociology-philosophy. The concept of Multidisciplinary Education is explained; with the criticism of the educational approach being addressed; and considering background thinking of the Law, Geography, Studies-in-Religion, and Teacher Education.
The four section looks at the idea of “Social Silence” and how it works, in ethics, medicine, and politics. In this regard the distinction between scholarship and public opinion is very important. From the conflation and intellectual confusion, comes the Culture-History Wars and Cold Wars. This section of the essay goes along to explaining the mental warfare from plurality in and of thought, when so much is misread or not read at all.
The fifth section looks at how history spirals and makes application of the theory for Australian media. The section is set in two-parts: the theory and applied philosophy. The theory covers thinking about Spiral Theories in History; Characters and Persons; and Spiral Models in Anthropology, Personalism, Language and Rhetoric, Education, and Politics. The applied philosophy goes to the media stories of the crash of the Bruce Lehrmann’s civil claims against a media company from the Federal Court in Sydney.
Concluding remarks are the (selected) significant statements throughout the essay.

American Influence on Protestantism in Queensland
since 1945
An important area in Christian historiography is the relationship between Protestant religious belief and culture. Prior to 1945 Queensland Protestantism had been influenced by British culture. The presence of a substantial body of American troops posted to Queensland during World War II, was a watershed. The post-1945 period saw a transition from influences coming from a British Protestant culture to influences from an American Protestant culture. Firstly, Queensland Protestantism was affected by the general Americanization which occurred in Australian society in this period. Secondly, American Protestant denominations established churches in Queensland. Thirdly, American Protestant ministers were appointed to Queensland Churches. Fourthly, Queensland Protestant denominations developed significant relationships with their American denominational counterparts. Fifthly, there was an interchange of visitors. This process of Americanization prevented Queensland Protestant churches from coming to terms with contemporary Australian society.

“It tells the story of the past in order to give us a clearer sense of where we are now and how we came to be here; and that in turn gives us a better sense of the future that beckons. The story found here is not just about the Knights of the Southern Cross. So embedded has the Order been that its story is also the story of the Church in Australia through these 95 years; that in turn looks to the story of the State and the nation. The theme of the book is quite focused, but its outlook is large. This shows again how the Order has been a community who were keen to look outward rather than inward.”

Opening in 1974 as the first lay-led Catholic secondary school the College has its origins in the tumultuous social, political and religious changes of the 1950s and 1960s. This is a College that was borne out of necessity and its establishment was to reshape the administration, staffing and curriculum in schools. On opening, the College challenged the norms of the time and it is in the origins of the College that we find many of the distinctive features of Catholic schools of today. Lay administration, co-education, pastoral care, vocational pathways and student-centred learning were all new concepts that challenged many in the church and education.

Junction Park State School is a primary education institution and community that stands together in the one shared past over 125 years. We have different stories, some nostalgic, some analytic; some delightful, some ugly; some religious, some secular; some political, some disengaged; some entertaining, some scholarly.
We value the human experience in all its struggles and pleasures. We don’t believe that Junction Park State School is the centre of the universe. But make no mistake about it; this is a place, like many other places, connected to the land, the region, the city, the state, the country, the world, and yes, the universe. It always has been, and always will be, as long as there is a place.
Come on in, and explore, and tell us your story…
