Furthermore, the authors test whether the routinization and infusion variables mediate the influence of the extent of use on overall performance. This research collects data from a survey answered by 2,175 employees (EDMS users) of Portuguese municipalities. The Partial Least Squares technique is applied to test the model. The results showed that routinization is directly predicted by the extent of use, whereas infusion is directly affected by the extent of use and also by routinization. Consequently, such post-adoptive behaviors are interrelated not only in a sequential process, but also in parallel, meaning that the infusion state of EDMS use is achieved from the evolutionary process of EDMS use and also directly from each of the prior stages of EDMS use. In addition, overall performance is d...

Our research has particularly become aware of the relevance of familiarity, trust and reciprocity in understanding the members' sense of a virtual community (VC). Familiarity and trust are efficient criteria to assess and determine the extent to which one should engage in a virtual relationship. Furthermore, the effort of sharing experiences and knowledge must be based on the expectation of receiving certain returns. A structural equation modelling, specifically partial least squares, is proposed to assess the relationships between the constructs. Overall, the empirical results provided strong support for the hypotheses. Familiarity and trust lead the member to develop a growing perceived community support (PCS) and significantly influence the sense of a VC. Norms of reciprocity directly influence affective trust and PCS. Higher familiarity does not moderate the impact of affective trust on PCS, however. The results of this study could thus help social online service providers to create a successful business model and to determine the main drivers of the members' sense of a VC.

Firms also use social networks as a two-way communication with their current and potential customers. This exploratory work means to analyze if Internet users' gender influences the behavior of using social networks. There is a reason for this. Despite Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) acceptance and use being more frequent in men, according to the previous literature, in line with different surveys on the subject, social networks are more used by women. The authors, therefore, analyze in this chapter if there are gender differences in the constructs of technology's classic models, such as the TAM (Technology Acceptance Model) and the TPB (Theory of Planned Behavior). They use a sample of 1,460 university students.

Likewise, perceived usefulness is an essential antecedent of the cumulative impressions of, and preferences for, such tools. Therefore, the aim of this study is to investigate the main effects of visual design and usefulness on learning and productivity in the domain of web-based educational tools. Structural Equation Modelling, specifically Partial Least Square (PLS), is proposed to assess the relationships between the constructs. Visual design and usefulness have a significant effect on the learner's perception of the extent to which needs, goals and desires have been fully met and, by extension, learning performance. Furthermore, higher expressive aesthetics reduces the impact of classical features on satisfaction.

We proposed a model to express the relationship and included gender as a moderator in the relationship. We then developed a questionnaire to test the model empirically and used a sample in Spain to check its validity and reliability. Analysis provided strong support for our hypotheses that gender exerted a significant moderating role on our model relationships. The influence of trust on commitment and of commitment on loyalty was significantly stronger for females than males, while the effects of satisfaction on commitment and of trust on loyalty were significantly stronger for males. Implications were drawn for practitioners.

Few studies have focused directly on design variables, visual aesthetics and usability, and the consequences on satisfaction of adopting a user-centered perspective. We propose an integrative model of relationship quality to provide an explanation of overall satisfaction through the influence of usability and visual aesthetics. We also suggest that purchase involvement moderates the strength of the relationships between design variables and satisfaction. Partial least squares (PLS) is used to estimate the parameters of the structural model and develop a multi-group analysis. The results provide strong support for the proposals. Design variables, satisfaction and trust lead the users to develop high customer loyalty; and, purchase involvement is an important moderator to engage in online service relationships. Our investigation contributes to the growing literature by examining the influence of purchase involvement in developing virtual relationships.

Our research, therefore, contributes to the existing literature by examining the heterogeneous influence of affective cues on the sense of belongingness to a community, and emotional benefits from intense bonds to close members. A structural equation modeling, specifically partial least square (PLS), is proposed to assess the relationships between the constructs together with the predictive power of the model analysed. In particular, the research model is validated empirically using data from a field survey of the most popular computermediated SNS among the Spanish college student population, Tuenti. The results demonstrate that expressive aesthetics significantly predicts PCS. Likewise, the results provide strong support for the proposals that these effects (i.e., expressive aesthetics on PCS) will be moderated by personal innovativeness and routinised behaviour. The model and results can, consequently, be used to assess affective design aspects during the electronic interaction process.

The specific objectives are twofold: (1) to explore the main drivers of learners' responses, in terms of their ongoing patronage and recommendation of learning tools to others; and (2) to clarify the significance of exploratory behaviour as a moderator that contributes to users' eloyalty. Drawing on the fields of design, non-economic satisfaction, and e-loyalty, this quasiexperimental study hinges on analysis of survey data to assess college students' online usage experiences. Aesthetics and usefulness have significant effects on perceptions of the extent to which students' goals and desires are met, and, by extension, extrinsic outcomes and e-loyalty. Making an educational tool simpler to use, however, has hardly any effect on users' perceptions of its usefulness. Furthermore, when usage is more instrumental, expressive issues weaken users' satisfaction-based processes. Our research also indicates that individual differences based on variety-seeking personality traits play an important role in users' decisions to accept e-learning tools. This article may therefore act as a springboard for further empirical research, as well as clarifying and examining the nature of e-learning tools' enduring usage amongst college students.

The results show that articulation diverts visual attention from the brand to the text, diminishing recall.Originality/valueThis is the first manuscript to use neurophysiological measures of the articulation effect. This is also the first manuscript that examines the differences in attention between articulated sponsorships based on their congruence.

In this chapter, the authors propose both the theory underlying PLS and a discussion of the key differences between covariance-based SEM and variance-based SEM, i.e., PLS. In particular, authors: (a) provide an analysis of the origin, development, and features of PLS, and (b) discuss analysis problems as diverse as the nature of epistemic relationships and sample size requirements. In this regard, the authors present basic guidelines for the applying of PLS as well as an explanation of the different steps implied for the assessment of the measurement model and the structural model. Finally, the authors present two examples of Information Systems models in which they have put previous recommendations into effect.
