The methodology used was ethnographic microanalysis. For this we use the techniques of participant observation to analyze the interactions that occur in selected schools and semi-structured interviews to analyze the speech of 12 boys aged 10 to 12 years from three Primary Schools in Seville. The discourse analysis has focused on the meanings and emotions that children associate to certain practices. The discourse analysis shows how social control exercised by fellow, model interpretations and evaluations of the practices associated with masculinity. Our work shows how early sexism and homophobia are active axes in formulating rules about "being a man", so we recommend the implementation of coeducational programs from primary education.

We study the metaphors that teachers use to make sense of their experiences in the application of this plan in their schools. For that, we use a qualitative methodology based on the performance of five focus groups, involving 35 teachers from Secondary Education, who were in charge of the plan for equality during the course 2006/07 in their schools. The results show that teachers in their discourse on equality issues display a great variety of emotional and strategic metaphors, which are related to different dimensions such as the role of the coeducation at school (I am an adornment, the coeducation is a cultural activity), the language as a strategy of the Plan of Equality (up in arms, to burn your bridges, thereabouts the shots go) with the climate of reception of the Plan of Equality (a topic that raises people’s hac...

The paper describes and analyzes a variety of the best coeducational practices used in different school contexts in Andalusia. A system of indicators is also presented that is useful for analyzing best coeducational practices. A qualitative methodology of the ethnographic type is used, in which interviews, group discussions and observation are applied. The methodology is based on the theoretical proposals of doing gender (Crawford and Chaffin, 1997) and contributions to the analysis of best practices (Epper and Bates, 2004; Escudero, 2009). Five coeducational practices implemented in five Andalusian schools are analyzed. The results show a rich variety of educational practices linked to the main thrusts of the Andalusian Plan for Equa...
