The Tritium Laboratory has been in operation since 1960, and carries out R&D activities involving tritium sources in gaseous, liquids and solid state, provides specialized service to CANDU NPP Cernavoda, Romania, and provides tritium assay services to internal and external customers. The paper presents the activities and perspectives of Tritium Laboratory and its performances in accordance with Quality System Management.

In the polymeric hydrophobic support the radio-induced modifications have been analyzed by FTlR ATR spectrometry and by determination of extractable fractions. The swelling degree has been also estimated 6 different catalysts on PTFE support and 1 catalyst on copolymer styrene divinylbenzene (SDB) produced by lelT Rm Valcea have been tested using the proposed protocols andfacilities.

The stability of labeled compounds has been analyzed by determination of radioactive emission and by quantum-chemical studies. Tritium labeled compounds were used in producing of surface and radioluminescent sources.

In this study, the primary radiolytical effect was analyzed using a two-step radiolytical mechanism: (a) ionization of molecule and spatial redistribution of atoms in order to reach a minimum value of energy, characteristic to the new quantum state and (b) neutralization of the molecule by capture of one electron and its rapid dissociation into free radicals. Chemical bonds suspected to break have minimum homolytic dissociation energies. r

In this study, the behavior of polytetrafluoroethylene and styrenedivynilbenzene copolymer catalyst supports in the presence of HTO was analyzed. The primary and secondary radiolytic effects were evaluated using original computational methods. The radiolytical processes were analyzed by exposure of the catalytic supports immersed in water to gamma radiation, and also by analysis of chemical modification by FTIR spectroscopy, fluoride formation and sol/gel fraction determination. r
