The objective of this work is to analyze what conditions of a theory T the conceptual identity, o... more The objective of this work is to analyze what conditions of a theory T the conceptual identity, or meaning, of a T-theoretical term depend on. I assume the idea, borrowed from Kuhn, that certain laws have a non-absolute synthetic a priori status. I defend that what structuralist metatheory presents as the fundamental law of a complex theory corresponds to a law with such status. I argue that the conceptual identity, or meaning, of a T-theoretical term basically depends on the fundamental law of T. I also argue that for a T-theoretical term to have operational relevance (for predictions and explanations) its meaning must be complemented with some sense(s). In this paper, 'Meaning' and 'sense(s)' for a T-theoretical term are introduced in a peculiar way.

En este trabajo analizamos el problema de cómo nuestras experiencias perceptuales sustentan epist... more En este trabajo analizamos el problema de cómo nuestras experiencias perceptuales sustentan epistémicamente nuestras creencias. Partimos de algunas consideraciones de Fodor al respecto, aunque revisadas en ciertos aspectos. Especialmente nos ocupamos de su reciente defensa de la existencia de representaciones no-conceptuales en el procesamiento de la información perceptual. Nuestra pretensión es reivindicar, frente a los argumentos en contra esgrimidos por algunos representantes del llamado 'conceptualismo perceptual', un papel normativo para las experiencias perceptuales concebidas como representaciones con contenido no-conceptual.

Two-dimensional electrophoresis (2-DE) has been used to measure the degree of genetic variability... more Two-dimensional electrophoresis (2-DE) has been used to measure the degree of genetic variability of the marine mussel Mytilus galloprovincialis. Genetic polymorphisms were detected in 33 of a total of 86 polypeptides scored among the most abundant proteins from foot samples in 38 individuals. Estimates of average heterozygosity were 0.10170.018 and 0.11470.021 in a natural and a cultured population, respectively, from the NW of the Iberian Peninsula. These are the highest estimates of average heterozygosity reported by 2-DE in an animal species to date. We consider that these data throw open the question of the level of genetic variability detectable by two-dimensional electrophoresis. Multilocus genotype data were used to infer haplotypic frequencies by means of the EM algorithm in order to detect linkage disequilibrium between loci coding abundant proteins. Significant associations were found in 22.7% of the 406 two-locus pairs analysed. Also, clusters of loci in which all pairwise combinations exhibit statistically significant associations were detected and physical linkage between some of these loci is postulated from the linkage disequilibrium data.

In this work it is assumed: that a factual theory is a conceptual system for representing patches... more In this work it is assumed: that a factual theory is a conceptual system for representing patches of the world; that the principal way of expressing a system of that sort is by means of language; and that, consequently, factors of ontosemantic kind are important for the comparison between rival theories. Given this perspective, two problems, which come up from the acceptance of the incommensurability thesis are analyzed: a) to establish the ontosemantic conditions that give sense to the comparability of incommensurable theories; and b) to consider an ontosemantic picture compatible with the fact that some modifications in a theory are not followed by variance of meaning and reference, while other modifications are.

Provided that the ontology of empirical theories is subject to semantic constraints, structuralist analyses constitute an interesting starting point for the design of a formal semantics specifically intended as an account of scientific expressions. However, the structuralist movement itself has paid little attention to the semantic analysis of linguistic formulations of scientific theories (in the formal semantic framework), with respect to giving an account of the semantic relationships between scientific expressions and extralinguistic entities. In Montague’s semiotic programme, we find a paradigm for formal analysis of the semantic problems of language. En este trabajo pretendo establecer que la teoría de adquisición/ aprendizaje de estos términos considerada por Kuhn es una suerte de holismo epistémicosemántico en relación a ciertas generalizaciones con rol estipulativo o generalizaciones que expresan proposiciones "a priori relativizadas". Defiendo que los análisis de Moulines sobre la forma lógica relevante de las leyes fundamentales (o principios guía) proporcionan un claro apoyo a la idea de que una ley fundamental es una "proposición a priori relativizada".
