In this article, the utility of structured interviewing for volunteer selection is explored, and the development of a structured interview for volunteer selection is reviewed. Finally, results of initial analyses supporting the reliability and validity of the structured interview are discussed.

The three-member speech communication faculty provide instruction for those students who have a speech communication concentration in the Bachelor of Interdisciplinary Studies Program. Students are interviewed by any of the speech communication faculty or the Director of Assessment using an interview schedule. Interviewers assess the communication skills of the interviewees in six predetermined competencies. Faculty analyze the results after any refeiences which would identify the student are omitted. The information obtained has been very detailed and usable and has helped the faculty to make specific improvements in course objectives, course offerings and rotations, and in the assessment instrument itself. The senior exit interview is attached. (RS)

The results of that planning were then evaluated by the 1984 convention attendees, and the present report describes their responses. For 1984, the authors limited their studies to attendance figures and participant evaluations of workshops and program modules. It is hoped that the information will be of interest to members wishing to compare their own convention experiences with others and to program planners working on the 1985 convention in Fresno.
