Chlorotettix sexvarus DeLong, 1959, is newly placed in the genus Cocrassana Blocker & Larsen and is a senior synonym of the type species of Cocrassana, C. riepmai Blocker & Larsen, 1991, syn. nov. A revised diagnosis and illustration of the species are provided.

Previously considered endemic to Jamaica, adults were recently discovered in Dominica (new country record) and possibly Guyana. The nymphs lack the scoli on the head, thorax, or abdomen that are common among the nymphs of many membracid taxa, including some members of most other tribes of Smiliinae. We also have collection records of adults suggesting that eggs are laid in clutches and that its native host plant is Annona muricata L. (Annonaceae).

Here, new distribution records are reported for two rare species of membracids. Flynnia fascipennis (Funkhouser) of the tribe Thuridini (Smiliinae) was represented only by the male holotype (U. S. National Museum of Natural History, USNM) from Bolivia until recently, when two male specimens were discovered among the Ecuadorian tree canopy fogging material in the USNM in Orellana Province (McKamey 2017, ZooKeys 678: 65–72). An additional male was discovered by the author in the collection of the Universidade do Paraná, Curitiba (DZUP) (with the following data: BRAZIL: Rondônia, Floresta Nacional do (Flona) Jamari, 3-IX-2012, 9°15’35”S 62°54’47”W, 110m, R. One member of this genus, from Ecuador (new country record for genus), is S. erwini, which differs from its congeners in having distinct coloration and being of intermediate size in terms of overall body length and the relative length of the lateral apical spines. Smilidarnis robustus (from Peru) and S. duocornus (from Brazil) differ from the other species of Smilidarnis in having the pronotum bearing a pair of suprahumeral spines.

The nymphs of all four genera are exceedingly cryptic. The nymphs of some species lack scoli on the head and pronotum but all have paired scoli on the meso- and metathoracic nota and abdominal segments III-IX. Some species also have lateral rows of enlarged chalazae on the abdomen, and even large scoli ventrolateral—the latter condition is unique within Smiliinae. The eggs are deposited in stems (not in exposed masses) and nymphs are solitary and not ant-attended. The fifth instar nymphs of Micrutalini range in length from 3.0-3.5 mm, much smaller than the fifth instars of most other treehoppers.

Flynnia McKamey is placed in new synonymy under Paraphetea Sakakibara and Creão-Duarte, which is referred to the tribe Thuridini, new placement. The combination Paraphetea fascipennis (Funkhouser) is reinstated as valid. The species Paraphetea gibbula (Fairmaire) is known from the Brazilian states of Minas Gerais and Mato Grosso. Peru is added to the country records for Paraphetea fascipeninis (Funkhouser). A key is provided to the four species of the tribe Thuridini.

Ceresinoidea zackigen. nov. et sp. nov., from Guatemala, differs from other acutalines in having a pair of suprahumeral spines and a stepwise convex pronotum in lateral view. Quinquespinosa septamaculagen. nov. et sp. nov., which is widely distributed in South America, differs in having a basal cell M and three posterior pronotal spines. Tectiforma guayasensisgen. nov. et sp. nov., from Ecuador, has the pronotum strongly tectiform throughout. A key to all genera of Acutalini is provided.
