The objective of this work was to identify, by molecular analysis, the species of the genus Helic... more The objective of this work was to identify, by molecular analysis, the species of the genus Helicoverpa in corn, soybean, and lucerne Bt and non-Bt crops, in central Argentina. A total of 1,343 carterpillars were analyzed by PCR-RFLP. Helicoverpa zea was the only species detected on non-Bt and on most Bt corn hybrids. The species H. gelotopoeon predominated on non-Bt soybean and on lucerne, and H. zea larvae occurred in low proportion. Bt soybean did not show Helicoverpa spp. infestations. The exotic H. armigera was not found, though adult moths of this species were light-trapped in a complementary sampling.

Although oat cultivation around the Mediterranean basin is steadily increasing, its yield in thes... more Although oat cultivation around the Mediterranean basin is steadily increasing, its yield in these regions lags far behind those of Northern Europe. This results mainly from the poor adaptation of current oat cultivars to Mediterranean environments. Local landraces may act as reservoirs of favorable traits that could contribute to increase oat resilience in this region. To aid selection of suitable agro-climate adapted genotypes we integrated genome-wide association approaches with analysis of field assessed phenotypes of genetic variants and of the weight of associated markers across different environmental variables. Association models accounting for oat population structure were applied on either arithmetic means or best linear unbiased prediction (BLUPs) to ensure robust identification of associations with the agronomic traits evaluated. Actualmente algunas medianas empresas dedicada al giro de droguerias ubicadas en el municipio de ... more Actualmente algunas medianas empresas dedicada al giro de droguerias ubicadas en el municipio de San Salvador, no cuenta aun con una herramienta administrativa orientada a la funcion de credito y cobro, que les permita evaluar y dar seguimiento al logro de sus objetivos estrategicos, por lo cual, se considero necesario la realizacion del diseno de un plan administrativo, con el proposito de mejorar la eficiencia en dicha area. En el desarrollo de la investigacion se procedio a identificar elementos teoricos relacionados con las generalidades de las droguerias consideradas como mediana empresa, conceptos referentes a la administracion estrategica y cuentas por cobrar. Seguidamente se elaboro un diagnostico de la situacion actual del sector en estudio, con el proposito de establecer los objetivos, politicas, estrategias y procedimientos que regiran las operaciones de credito y cobro a las que se deben adherir los departamentos involucrados, para asi garantizar un desempeno eficiente en el area de cuentas por cobrar. Ademas se utilizo el metodo cientifico para obtener los datos, que sirvieron de sustentacion a la propuesta elaborada, se empleo el analisis y la sintesis para estudiar la informacion recolectada, asi mismo se aplico la investigacion de tipo descriptiva no experimental debido que permite determinar no solo los datos recolectados, sino la relacion e interpretacion que existe entre las variables en estudio. Se establecio como universo las instituciones clasificadas como medianas empresas dedicadas al giro de droguerias dentro del municipio de San Salvador y como unidad de muestra se identificaron a 21 organizaciones, las cuales son ademas, el mismo numero establecidas en el universo, por tanto, se tomo la decision de realizar un censo para estas veintiun entidades y no establecer asi muestra alguna. Para llevar a cabo la recoleccion de datos se procedio a disenar el modelo de encuesta y guia de entrevista las cuales fueron completadas por los encargados del departamento de credito. Luego de interpretar la informacion obtenida por los instrumentos, se concluyo que la algunas de las entidades en estudio, no cuentan con un plan administrativo orientado a las cuentas por cobrar, el cual permita anticipar acciones, asignar funciones administrativas y recursos, ademas de no contar con instrumentos gerenciales que ayuden a la toma de decisiones a la alta gerencia; por lo que se propone a las entidades en estudio aplicar el plan administrativo para mejorar la eficiencia en la funcion de creditos y cobros y la liquidez dentro de estas. Jheral Farma S.A. de C.V. fue la entidad utilizada como caso ilustrativo, el gerente general proporciono la informacion basica y relevante para la elaboracion de la propuesta.

El silvopastoreo es un sistema de producción pecuaria en donde las leñosas perennes (árboles y/o ... more El silvopastoreo es un sistema de producción pecuaria en donde las leñosas perennes (árboles y/o arbustos) interactúan con los componentes tradicionales (forrajeras herbáceas y animales) bajo un sistema de manejo integral, ha sido planteado, con base en resultados investigativos, como una alternativa de producción sostenible que permite reducir el impacto ambiental de los sistemas tradicionales de producción. Además, están diseñados para obtener un producto maderable de alta calidad mientras provee un ingreso a corto plazo derivado de la ganadería. La interacción entre árboles, forraje y ganado se maneja para obtener productos (madera, forraje de alta calidad, ganado), de manera simultánea, intensiva y eficiente. En general, los sistemas silvopastoriles pueden proveer ingresos económicos, a la vez que crean un sistema sostenible con muchos beneficios ambientales. Cuando estos sistemas son bien administrados, ofrecen una variedad de oportunidades para mercadeo que pueden ayudar a estimular el desarrollo de la economía rural.

We present an interpolative method for describing coherent transport through an interacting quant... more We present an interpolative method for describing coherent transport through an interacting quantum dot. The idea of the method is to construct an approximate electron self-energy which becomes exact both in the limits of weak and strong coupling to the leads. The validity of the approximation is first checked for the case of a single (spin-degenerate) dot level. A generalization to the multilevel case is then discussed. We present results both for the density of states and the temperature dependent linear conductance showing the transition from the Kondo to the Coulomb blockade regime.

Helicoverpa armigera (Hübner) (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae: Heliothinae) is among the most voracious g... more Helicoverpa armigera (Hübner) (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae: Heliothinae) is among the most voracious global pests of agriculture. Adults of this species were identified recently in northern Argentina by dissection of male genitalia. In this work, a rapid and simple molecular tool was designed to distinguish H. armigera from the morphologically similar indigenous bollworms Helicoverpa zea (Boddie) and Helicoverpa gelotopoeon (Dyar), regardless of the life stage. Amplification of partial COI gene with a new primer pair, and subsequent digestion with endonuclease HinfI, yielded different RFLP profiles for the three main Helicoverpa pests currently present in South America. The method was validated in Helicoverpa specimens collected across Argentina, whose identity was further corroborated by COI sequencing and phylogenetic analysis. This research project aimed to identify and analyze Mexican primary school students' ideas ab... more This research project aimed to identify and analyze Mexican primary school students' ideas about the components of the solar system. In particular, this study focused on conceptions of the solar system and representations of the dynamics of the solar system based on the functional and structural models that students make in school. Using a Euclidean distance-based cluster analysis, six different models of the solar system were identified. The results of this study suggest that these models do not specifically correlate to one school grade. The identified models vary in complexity, not only by the number of components but also by the dynamic interactions and distributions of the elements that comprise the models. This diversity of models shows that students do not simply reproduce the diagrams in their textbooks or the diagrams that they have access to in their environment. A local-density linear combination of atomic orbitals method has been applied to study the deposi... more A local-density linear combination of atomic orbitals method has been applied to study the deposition of a K overlayer on the As-rich GaAs(100)-2 x 4 reconstruction. Our results show that the K atoms form quasi-one-dimensional structures along the missing rows of the semiconductor surface. The conduction band associated with the K orbitals is analyzed by means of an extended Hubbard Hamiltonian. We show that a Mott transition appears for a deposition of 6-7 K atoms per unit cell, and argue that for this coverage the metal-semiconductor barrier is almost completely formed.
