creating creative and innovative Muslim through its conceptual and understanding framework; discover the
relationship between bid‘ah and the advancement of Islamic civilization; and discuss its necessity positively as
highlighted in the approach of avoiding extremism or “duna ifrat wa la tafrit” in building a just and balanced
Muslim society (ummatan wasatan). By employing the qualitative method through content analysis in evaluating
the necessary and relevant reports, articles and texts, it is hoped that this paper will offer a distinctive perspective
of bid‘ah, its positive role and contribution in contemporary Muslim society.
Creativity is the natural ability to generate new ideas and/or possibilities in solving problems.... more Creativity is the natural ability to generate new ideas and/or possibilities in solving problems. It is an important skill that should be practiced by students in higher education and can be nurtured by the use of various learning methods and techniques. This preliminary study conducted aims to measure the level of creativity practices among 30 first-years of Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia students. The test instrument administered based on the Torrance Tests of Creative Thinking to the selected respondents to measure the level of creativity, creativity practices and creativity from the Islamic perspective. Data then analysed using descriptive and inferential statistical methods. The results showed that although there is no significant difference in the level and creativity practices among gender, but in terms of Islamic creativity elements, significant difference can be observed. This indicates that the respondents are more creative upon exposure to materials on creativity during the period of the study. Thus, relevant efforts must be concentrated to produce more creative students who also have a proper understanding of creativity from the Islamic perspective.

This article explores the influence of the Indian modernization on the religious education in Malaya (presently Malaysia) before the independence. The objective is to examine the major aspect of such an influence and to highlight its effects on religious education at both primary and secondary schools in Malaysia today. Library and archive research methods were used to examine the social atmosphere at that time. The study shows that Indian modernization especially in education had an impact on several reform advocators in Malaya but it has not been discussed in depth until now. As such, a further a research would benefit everybody, especially those who engage in education sector in Malaysia today.

Supervision of teaching practice is an important aspect of training teachers in improving their t... more Supervision of teaching practice is an important aspect of training teachers in improving their teaching skills. Barriers such as distance and time factor are the constraints faced by the lecturers at the National University of Malaysia to communicate with the teacher trainees under their supervision. Therefore, this study aims to develop and evaluate a social-networking site Ning's platform for the supervision of lecturers to teach on-line training. This study used the case design where a total of nine teacher trainees involved in this study. It found that overall, acceptance of the use of the social-networking site Ning mean score at the highest level of 3.91. In addition, all student teachers have positive attitudes towards the use of the social-networking site Ning social-networking site and agree a suitable approach to the supervision of one of the online teaching practices. While the "blog" is the most active facility used by student teachers in which they do self-reflection. In conclusion, the social-networking site Ning has the potential to assist lecturers to carry out supervision on-line teaching practice.
This article examines the history of Muslim military in the 'Abbasid era. This study aims at reve... more This article examines the history of Muslim military in the 'Abbasid era. This study aims at revealing the achievement of the 'Abbasid military from the 8 th to 10 th Century A.D. In addition, this article also identifies the establishment of military, the characteristics of its army and navy, and the types of wars and rebellions that happened at the time. This study used the method of qualitative study which consists of historical study and content analysis to identify and analyze both primary and secondary sources that are deemed relevant to the 'Abbasid history and civilization. This research found that the 'Abbasid military became a great naval power which frightened the Byzantine Empire because the former is comparable to that of the Byzantium (Eastern Roman) in terms of their military recruitment, payroll, structure and organization, weapon technology and tactics of attack.
As early as the 9 th century A.D., a Muslim scholar named 'Abbas Ibn Firnas pioneered the study o... more As early as the 9 th century A.D., a Muslim scholar named 'Abbas Ibn Firnas pioneered the study of aviation. Ibn Firnas invented a gliding device which managed to be airborne for a short duration of time. Although he was badly injured during a bad landing, he successfully pioneered the theory on the structure of ornithopter which is a vital component for aircraft stability during landing. This article unveils the early history of aviation beginning from the early period of Islamic golden age to the 20 th century A.D. that has witnessed Western effort in introducing machine in aircraft. This research employs a qualitative method via library research and document analysis. It argues that the invention of ornithopter by 'Abbas Ibn Firnas has inspired the West to further develop the aviation technology thus influenced the modern method of flying. Therefore, naturally 'Abbas Ibn Firnas should be recognised as 'the father of the aviation field' for his invaluable contribution to the contemporary field of aviation technology of the world.
This article examines the position of the Sunnah of the Prophet in both Islamic espitemology and ... more This article examines the position of the Sunnah of the Prophet in both Islamic espitemology and Western scholarship. The purposes are to scrutinize the perspectives of Islam and the West on the issue of Sunnah's authenticity and to analyze its position in the Islamic espitemology and the Western scholarship. The method used to complete the writing is library study, which involve the collection of data and information, followed by their analysis to compare and contrast the differences. It is found that Islam firmly recognized the position of the Sunnah and the role that Prophet Muhammad played in bringing and teaching it. The West, however, are reluctant to acknowledge the position of the Sunnah and their denial is closely associated with their denial of Prophet Muhammad. The article implies that one needs to arm himself with a sound understanding of the Sunnah and to be well-versed in the knowledge to ensure that he is clear about the position of the sacred source of Islam, i.e the Sunnah.

The reasons for choosing him are he was among the first persons to be able to bring about reforms in Malaya and was the most vocal reformist in Malaya during his time, when compared to his contemporaries such as Shaykh Tahir b. Jalaluddin, Hj. Abbas b. Taha and Mohd. Yunus b. Abdul Hamid. The objective of the writing is to seek out materials which are deemed relevant and promising sources for the study of Syed Shaykh. The research mainly uses library and archive research methods to identify sources concerning Syed Shaykh. It is found that there are several works on Syed Shaykh but almost all placed excessive attention on his thoughts on education. Writing on the sources for the study of Syed Shaykh is considered meaningful as no other authors have been known to have done anything similar. Besides, this study may provide a fast access to the available sources and they are feasible to all, especially those who are interested to study on him.

The purposes of the article are to identify the concept of child development from Syed Shaykh's perspective and to analyze his ideas on appropriate education for the children. The methods used to complete the writing are library and archive research, which involve the collection of data and its analysis in order to deduce Syed Shaykh's ideas on child development. The process of developing a child must be coupled with equipping him or her with sound knowledge and this has to be through a proper education. It is found that Syed Shaykh's ideas on education for children are very much similar to Ibn al-Hajj's (d.1336) theory of education. The article implies that thoughts on child development and their education is very much useful in parenting. This study needs a comparative analysis research on the similarity between Syed Shaykh's ideas on education for children and Ibn al-Hajj's (d.1336) theory of education.

They are either the advocators of blind imitation or the supporters of independent reasoning. This article discusses the aspects of blind imitation and independent reasoning in the Malay society at that time. The objective is to examine the place of the faculty of reason in the Malay society. It is also to evaluate the true attitude of the Malays towards blind imitation and independent reasoning. Library and archive research methods were used to examine the social atmosphere and religious practice of the time. The study revealed that independent reasoning was not only advocated by the Young Faction but it was also held by a small segment of the Old Faction. This writing may provide a different perspective about the Malays of the late 19th and early 20th century.

This is a comparative study on the measures taken by the Ministry of Education in registering Pub... more This is a comparative study on the measures taken by the Ministry of Education in registering Public or State Religious Schools as Government-Funded Religious Schools (SABK) since 2004 against the taking over of Public and State Religious Schools that took place in 1977. A suitable comparison method has been employed with the intent to establish a guide which will be used to gauge what is happening during the take over, so that the adverse impacts will not be repeated in the future. Interviews and document analysis were the used tools. The study found that although stakeholders and issues are slightly different, situation wise they are quite a number of repetitions from history. Lessons should have been taken from history so that any action taken must be preceded with caution in avoiding the loss of religious schools identity, the identity which Al-Azhar curriculum has served for decades. Authors have proposed that the way to register the schools need revision and the modification of the management system restructured with a more acceptable and bearing less conflict new structure.

It found that overall, acceptance of the use of the social-networking site Ning mean score at the highest level of 3.91. In addition, all student teachers have positive attitudes towards the use of the social-networking site Ning social-networking site and agree a suitable approach to the supervision of one of the online teaching practices. While the "blog" is the most active facility used by student teachers in which they do self-reflection. In conclusion, the social-networking site Ning has the potential to assist lecturers to carry out supervision on-line teaching practice.

This study analyses the challenges for the commercialization of university research for agricultu... more This study analyses the challenges for the commercialization of university research for agricultural based invention. It aims at promoting the commercialization of agricultural based research to compete with the existing inventions. From the discussion, it shows that the commercialization of agricultural based invention of university research usually takes a longer time to be marketable, when compared to inventions by agencies such as MARDI and FAMA. The article implies that agricultural based invention of university research should be considered as a significant tool for economic growth. It suggests that a case study and a quantitative analysis will be useful to further formulate propositions and to learn the agricultural based invention of university research.
