While English Language Teaching (ELT) often focuses on established teaching approaches like Presentation, Production, and Practice (PPP) or Test-Teach-Test (TTT), many EFL professionals do not often experiment with less common methods such as Dictogloss, Silent Way, or Task-Based Language Teaching (TBLT). While an eclectic approach to teaching English can help achieve lesson goals better, having a more in-depth understanding of specific approaches and techniques can improve teachers' professional skills. Dictogloss is one such approach that can integrate all skills and different linguistic items in planning and delivering ELT lessons. In fact, dictogloss is a constructive learning method that blends language skills such as listening, speaking, reading, and writing and language systems enabling students listen to variety of topics, take notes, interact, collaborate, draft, re-draft and present their work, and the method enhances learners' experiential learning through an optimum classroom engagement. The writer's/ the teacher's experiment with the approach of dictogloss and reflections are summarized in this chapter. This chapter, therefore, condenses the author's experience of using dictogloss in English Language Teaching and Learning (ELTL), a brief review of relevant literature, the objectives of the experimental lesson, findings and analysis, recommendations, and conclusion. Overall, this qualitative study on the experimental dictogloss lesson and its reflections conclude at a positive note and provides ELT professionals, researchers, and readers with valuable insights into this method of dictogloss.

Hence they can be exploited as one of the best tools in facilitating imaginative narration. Hence they can be exploited as one of the best tools in facilitating language learning. Conventionally, they are taught focusing mostly on reading or any other skill, minimizing their potential and possibilities as an effective teaching tool. A well planned story-lesson is the most effective if all the four skills are reasonably integrated and implemented. With this rationale the presenter attempts to create an effective lesson situation incorporating all the skills in a story through learner- friendly interactive activities.

The learners differ from country to country, from culture to culture or from one region to another within a country in particular or across the world in general. The difference is obvious even in a small classroom. Hence, the understanding of the learner types is very crucial to any successful planning, designing and implementing of ELT materials. One must keep in mind various types of learners ranging from the strong to the slow, and the gifted to the average, and others while preparing and implementing ELT materials. The materials must be prepared and adapted to cater to the needs of the Mixed Ability Groups in an ESL/EFL situation.

The University of Technology and Applied Sciences, Al Musannah (UTASA), also adopted this approach, which brought forth both opportunities and challenges for the academic community, including teachers and students. However, no systematic studies were conducted across various departments at the university to gain insights into the implications of full-time online/e-learning. Therefore, this study was designed to comprehend the perceptions of cross-sectional UTASA students regarding the effectiveness of e-learning, encompassing their experiences and satisfaction with participating in it. The study employed a combination of quantitative and qualitative data collection methods, utilizing a survey questionnaire and a descriptive question. The participants included both male and female learners (N = 212) from departments such as IT (Information Technology), Business, Engineering, and ELC (English Language Centre). The analysis encompassed both descriptive and inferential statistical analyses of the quantitative data, as well as a descriptive thematic analysis of the qualitative data. The results revealed that over half of the participants held a clearly positive impression of their e-learning experience and satisfaction during the Covid-19 lockdown. Furthermore, the analysis of qualitative data shed light on the reasons behind both negative and positive sentiments towards e-learning, along with suggestions for potential enhancements. The diverse reactions of the participants to the survey questions have assisted researchers and interested parties in gaining a comprehensive understanding of both the favorable and unfavorable aspects of the procedure. A subset of the participants held a pessimistic view of online learning due to factors such as receiving low grades, encountering inadequate technical assistance, and observing a lack of commitment. In contrast, a different group perceived online learning as advantageous, citing its provision of a convenient and adaptable learning environment, along with convenient access to recorded lectures. Additionally, certain survey respondents put forth recommendations for enhancing online learning, including the need for better training, improved Internet connectivity, and enhanced interaction between teachers and students, as well as among fellow students. In summary, the study yielded valuable insights into the experiences and contentment levels of learners engaged in the online teaching and learning process. The findings and ensuing discussion provide essential recommendations for stakeholders and future researchers alike.

As observed by the researcher and reviewed in the literature, bottom-up processing for decoding is found to be an often-neglected area in the teaching of listening skills in the field of ELT. As a result of this, the foreign or second language learners of English are at risk in their competency in comprehending proficient speakers of English especially when they are exposed to ungraded realife spoken English outside their regular lessons. To address this issue effectively, learners and teachers of English should be made aware of the significance of BUP in terms of different listening issues faced by learners. Moreover, the stake holders (planners, teachers, and students) should have a clear plan of action to address these issues to the benefit of learners. Sufficient awareness of the concept of bottom-up processing for decoding in listening skills, issues faced by learners due to lack of it, and a well thought out action to deal with the issues, therefore, can help learners of English to improve their listening skills and comprehension contributing to their enhanced language proficiency. The paper, therefore, incorporates the methodology of reviewing relevant literarature based on the researcher's belief on the significance of bottom-up processing for teaching listening skills. Besides the analysis of the concept of BUP, the paper includes some learner issues, and it suggests some listening activities to remedy the issues.
