It presents an analytical framework encompassing four projects: one in São Paulo (Brazil) and three in Medellín (Colombia). Both municipalities had remarkable experiences in architecture and urbanism (A&U), reflecting advances in social, political, and economic conditions. It highlights the instruments and qualities of space intrinsically activated by A&U's strategies, considering their potential to engender significant socio-spatial transformations. The text focuses on the urban infrastructure spatial patterns as the most defining factor of the analysed urban landscapes.

To this end, it proposes an analytical path of some of the spatial results of the process of rationalization in modern architecture –in its Brazilian refraction –to name the conditions of a critical –counter-hegemonic –action; one that is possible in contemporary times. This reflection’s main theoretical frameworks are the questions posed to modern architecture by the Italian critic Manfredo Tafuri, and the problematization of Fredric Jameson on the theoretical impasses attributed to it. These could be partially overcome by Lefebvre's critique of the production of space and everyday life, allowing the construction of a theoretical-methodological horizon of social transformation. The present possibilities indicate that critical practice must pursue spatial, cultural, and social contents as alternatives to the progressive abstraction of life, that is, imagine counter-hegemonic procedural actions –and achievements –to face the imposition of hegemonic capitalism (Jameson)

This author introduced the practical-sensitive basis in the debate between the spatial and social processes to discuss the ideological dimensions that underpin the urban and architectural intervention carried out by the rationality of the State. This paper aims to identify the relationship between HL concepts and architecture in the contemporary academic debate, in which the city and the urban are highlighted. The Systematic Literature Review method was used as well as a refining criterion that looked for the relation between the work of HL, selected in specialized indexed international journals, on the space and the city and the concerns more directly related to the architecture and urban design. Concluding, we point out that the influence of Lefebvrian work on architectural...

Results: It was found that 32% of health workers consider the transmission of the disease until 2-3 weeks of starting treatment. 25% of participants reported that the disease continues to be transmitted with treatment. 48.5% of health workers answered that they were comfortable with the care of a patient with TB and 51.5% are undecided and / or would not feel right. Preliminary data showed that erroneous beliefs and attitudes persist in relation to TB, which can affect the early detection and treatment adherence.

Alexander Cuthbert published a daring anthology on architecture and urban design, completed in 20... more Alexander Cuthbert published a daring anthology on architecture and urban design, completed in 2011. The project began in 2001 resulting in three volumes: Designing Cities (2003), The Form of the Cities (2006) and Understanding Cities (2011). Unlike other anthologies on architecture, this author organized it as follows: critical selection of authors' texts from various disciplinary areas (vol. I), the approach systematization according to the defined categories (vol. II) and the discussion of the "meta-theories" that would underpin a renewed critical disciplinary perspective (vol. III). In this sense, Henri Lefebvre (1901-1991) had already indicated the ideological limits of both modern urbanism and the new spatial strategies of globalization, and proposed a new science of space and city, free from the direct injunctions of the defining economic determinations of 'urban society'. This would be a task of thinking about social praxis. The aim of this research is ...

Although initially it may seem that the orientations of large urban projects and the references to just city are antithetical, Fainstein’s contributions expose the complexity of the issue, transcending the dichotomy between uncritical acceptance and full rejection, as well as clarifying differences between various megaprojects. Based on previous approaches on GPUs and secondary literature, the experiences of Puerto Norte (Rosario) and Puerto Madero (Buenos Aires) are approached and compared from the just city perspective. The conclusion is that, despite its distance from the public components incorporated in initiatives addressed by Fainstein in cities of the Global North, the Rosario case contemplates more aspects of equity than the case of Buenos Aires.

The case studies of Medellin, Bogota, and Sao Paulo, discussed in more detail, along with other local innovative experiences of social and territorial inclusion, through land policy tools, in Latin American cities in Uruguay, Ecuador, and Argentina, show that there is a set of urban, environmental, and cultural initiatives that place social inclusion and reduction of urban inequality at the forefront of municipal governments’ agendas in this century on the most urbanized of the continents.

Two countries led this movement: Brazil and Colombia, and progressively other countries as Uruguay, Argentina, and Ecuador. Cities represent prosperity and a lack of opportunities, but there is also hope.

Scarcity of resources and lack of public interest, added to a scenario of social inequality, have not favored the allocation of resources towards preservation. Considering this framework of limitations, it is possible to argue that the priority of policies related to cultural assets should lie on the protection of low-income urban settlements, associated to social housing, and within a community-based perspective.

The case study that leads the historical approach is the Centro Educacional Unificado (ceu, Unified Educational Center) a complex of educational, cultural and recreational institutions, deployed by the city of São Paulo, originally between 2002-2004, in the low-income areas that showed a lack of social facilities, public spaces and urban infrastructure. ceus were hailed by their developers and specialized media as urbanity inductors. The multiplicity of their functions were organized by creating a distinctive public space which refered to the formal city, serving both the public and the local school community., Thus the resulting architectural ensemble would offer quality services and experiences of urban space that would contribute to the expansion of the perspective of education for culture, sports and recreation. A detailed analysis of this example led to the understanding that the ceu could be read from three points of view, which organize the historical analysis: the school was at the same time a public policy, an architectural typology and an urban intervention. Studying that analytical framework, this work sought the understanding on how the regular public schools ended up becoming this multi-proposal facility which groups a series of institutions that were traditionally distributed through the city, equalizing the provision of services to underserved populations, , however stresses the relation between the school and the city. The production of public education facilities is studied from 1935-with the development of the Department of Culture, that installed playgrounds in working class neighborhoods-to the present day, when 45 ceus are in operation in the periphery of São Paulo.

This would be a task of thinking about social praxis. The aim of this research is to answer: Does this theoretical-empirical approach respond to the Lefebvrian requirement of a critical-theoretical reflection that would be the basis of a new space discipline? Does Alexander Cuthbert overcome the dichotomy between urbanism and architecture towards a disciplinary methodology of spatial intervention? Therefore, this study discusses the categories of Alexander Cuthbert according to Lefebvre's critical propositions and his "unitary urbanism". In this sense, we believe that instead of proposing operational categories, Cuthbert proposes heterologies – or preconditions – that could configure a new critical thinking. Its objective would be a theoretical unit that surpassed the urbanism like "fragmentary sciences", restricted to the functional and economic dimensions of the production of the space. Cuthbert's anthology showed the most appropriate approach to the new themes and challenges, considering the multiplicity of theoretical interfaces that converge in the architectural practice.
