In combination with previous data, our results demonstrate that these rocks represent fragments of the ancient lower crust, and have features similar to those of the granulite basement in the northern margin of the NCC. A detailed evaluation of the Pb isotope data shows that Pb isotopes cannot effectively distinguish the role of the Yangtze Craton basement from that of the NCC basement with regard to the source and generation of magmas, at least for southeastern NCC. The age data suggest that the protoliths of the granulites or amphibolites in the Wuhe Complex were most likely generated in Neoarchean and that these rocks were subjected to Paleoproterozoic (1.8e1.9 Ga) high-pressure granulite facies metamorphism. This study also shows that the Precambrian metamorphic basement in the southeastern margin of the NCC might have formed in a tectonic setting characterized by a late Neoarchean active continental margin.

The kyanite quartzite from the ultrahigh-pressure metamorphic belt in the eastern Dabie Mountains... more The kyanite quartzite from the ultrahigh-pressure metamorphic belt in the eastern Dabie Mountains is composed mainly of quartz, kyanite, talc and epidote, which contains a typical mineral assemblage of white schist. It suffered an eclogite facies metamorphism of P = (2.4 + 0 . 3 ) GPa and T = 630C together with coexisting eclogite. The protolith may be an aplite replaced by high-pressure fluid of eclogite facies. Keywords: Dabie Mountains, ultrahigh pressure, white schist assemblage.

These eclogites in foliated perdotite are enveloped by banded gneiss and occur in the mafic-ultramafic rock belt. They are mainly composed of omphacite, garnet, diopside, orthopyroxene, amphibole, plagioclase and magnetite, and a small amount of rutile, spinel, olivin and corundum. The mineral association of peak metamorphism of the eclogite is omphacite+gamet+rutile. The existence of eclogite in the Northern Dabie Mountain implies that there was an eclogitic metamorphism prior to the granulitic facies one in the mafic-ultramafic rock belt. Keywords: dogite, petrography, Northern Dabie Mountain. Mountain recently. It is expected that many greenschist facies; W, Mesozoic successor basin. 2, Granite; 3, geologists who worked in the Dabie Mountain ultramafic rock block; 4, nappe and faults; 5, location of eclogite.

Thrust-nappe structures and extensional structures simultaneously occur in the northern part of t... more Thrust-nappe structures and extensional structures simultaneously occur in the northern part of the Dabie Mountains. The systematic structural study reveals that extensional structures along the Mozitan-Xiaotian fault and thrust-nappe structures that take the Jinzhai-Shucheng fault as their frontal thrust share the same shear sense, and display a transitional relationship from the ductile extensional structure of deep level in the south to the ductile-brittle and brittle thrust-nappe structure of shallow level in the north. The extensional and thrust-nappe structures in the region are explained to result from post-collisional processes by the continuous subduction of the Yangtze continental block and the extension induced by the uplifting of the core part of the Dabie Mountains, which are components of the extensional structures produced in the exhumation process of the ultrahigh pressure metamorphic rocks in the Dabie Mountains. Because of the frontal blocking in the process of the north-westward spreading, the extension and detachment of the low-grade metamorphic rocks along the Mozitan-Xiaotian fault was transformed into the northwestward thrusting, resulting in the thrust-nappe structures. They developed in the period of 200 -170 Ma, maybe last till the late Jurassic.

The UMRB in northern Dabie Mountains is composed of rootless rock blocks of variant tectonic sett... more The UMRB in northern Dabie Mountains is composed of rootless rock blocks of variant tectonic setting and sheared fine-grained matrix, mainly tonalitic gneiss. The most prominent is the more than 160 mafic-ultramafic blocks. A lot of eclogite and eclogitic rocks are the new findings in the last years. Three metamorphic processes can be recognized from the eclogite: (1) eclogitic facies metamorphism represented by garnet + omphacite + rutile assemblage, (2) granulite facies retrogressive metamorphism represented by plagioclase + ortho-pyroxene + clinopyroxene + spinel, (3) retrogressive metamorphism of amphibolite facies expressed by mineral assemblage of amphibole + plagioclase + biotite. Isotopic dating gives four sets of Sm-Nd age from eclogites: (1) 450Ma (Gt + Wr) with eNd =-9, interpreted as the indication of high or ultra-high pressure metamorphism of an involved continental slice during active subduction of early Paleozoic, (2) 264Ma (Gt + Wr) with eNd = -9, interpreted as the response to the collision event of late Paleozoic, (3) around 210Ma (Gt + Omph, Gt + Omph + Wr, and Gt + Wr,) with eNd values of -8.5, -2, -10 and -11 respectively, it is postulated to be the age of granulite facies metamorphism which overprinted and reformed the pre-existing isotopic system, during early stage of exhumation, (4) 190 Ma with eNd = + 4. is postulated due to the effect of intense deformation. The REE patterns of some eclogites are depletion and others enrichment in LREE. The depletion of LREE is thought to be the relic feature of oceanic crust. The zircon U-Pb ages of the country tonalitic gneiss show the age of their protolith of 700-800Ma, the age related to high-ultrahigh pressure metamorphism is around 220 Ma, and 140-150 Ma is related to granite intrusion of post collision granite. LIL element analyses from both the eclogites and amphilbolites (probably retrograded eclogite) showing positive anomaly of Nb may reflect the relic feature of MORB. In addition, the chemical composition of meta-sandstone from the meta-flysch has an affinity of island arc. The major geologic discontinuity across the belt and intensive deformation and pervasive mylonitization within the belt are integrated into the suggestion that the UMRB is a tectonic unit, or exactly a metamorphosed tectonic m61ange containing relic MORB slices. So it is the suture between Sino-Korean and Yangtze plate.
