Vector : What the heck ? [EDITED] by ut0pie on DeviantArt (original) (raw)

Considering what people are still thinking, I had to write something else in this entry. Sorry for Editing and bothering you once more.

/! Please, stop saying : "Your drawings are so cute" or something similar. I don't draw.

:pointr: ACCORDING TO DA's POLICY WE'RE NOT VECTOR ARTISTS. And that's definitely true since Vector Artists are creative and don't have nor need any bases. THUS, this definition implies only Anime Artists / Vectors - Vexels.

:bulletgreen: WHAT DOES VECTOR MEAN ?

You thought you were alone, wondering silently what the heck does this word mean ? I'll explain. :D

A vector is a way to make a photo/screenshot/drawing/scan/... look better. Indeed, I think that all the vector artists possess their own way to make a vector but the result is always or almost the same.
You make a vector when you take a photo/screenshot/drawing/scan or anything and that you decide to redraw and recolor the lines in order to make them seem smoother, sweeter.
Besides, you can make a vector from a nice and a smooth photo/screenshot... etc just because you expect it to be bigger. (Even though a scan is always blurred or there's several pixels)
Note that you don't loose the quality of the picture with vectors, when resizing the image (thanks to plutosenshi2002)
A vector is not a copy ! (Please ^^). We spent a lot of time working on a vector project. of course the base is the hardest part but making a vector is not that easy.

Softwares : Adobe Illustrator is the suitable one but I use Photoshop, and I know that some are also using Flash. (I know I advertise Adobe XD)

I learnt by myself that's why I can't give you any tutorials' links, sorry (but you can try to take a look on tsukishoujo's or Azley galleries since I know they made amazing tutorials or just take a look in here : TutorialsClub). By the way, if you want to use one of my vectors send me a note. Thanks ^^
I hope you'll understand. If there's any native english who need to correct my spelling or anything, no problem, send me a note ! Moreover, if ever you wanted to add something about vectors feel free to ask because it's not an exhaustive listing.

OK. I've been deeply disappointed to see that people are still saying we're TRACING pictures. Of course lots of people start vectoring with anime screenshots. Of course deviantArt is full of those crappy screenshots. But you have to know that we have to start on the easy part. Then, we get more skilled and we just try to do something better like tracing scans. Then, and I'll come to the point I want to discuss, we can try something else like OCs (Original Characters) using a pose of a character, and doing our own face or clothes. (You can visit tsukishoujo's gallery to see what I mean). Or, and I'm personally concerned by this point, we can try to do colorizations. That's what I tried with those works : ut0pie.deviantart.com/art/Moto…, ut0pie.deviantart.com/art/Moto…, ut0pie.deviantart.com/art/Mura…, ut0pie.deviantart.com/art/Kana…. This was my own goal. I wanted to try it a long time ago but wasn't enough skilled and didn't like the lines of manga that were kinda blurred because of the scanning part. Besides, I wasn't really used to the mouse and I had to try the Pen Tool.
Saying vectors are "copy" or "only tracing" really makes me mad. Hopefully there still are some people who are able to judge a vector with their mind, not only mechanically ("This is not a vector because it is only tracing... blahblah")... Thanks for reading...
