Donnell J Creel | University of Utah (original) (raw)

Donnell J. Creel, Ph.D. was a career Research Scientist for 31 years in the Veterans Administration and N.I.H. systems. The principal research interest was visual and auditory anomalies associated with albinism. Dr. Creel first made the association that any form of albinism will have misrouting of optic nerve fibers suggesting in Nature in 1971 that all mammals including humans with albinism have disorganized visual systems. In 1974 he published in I.O.V.S. the first paper demonstrating abnormal visual pathways in human albinos, and in Science in 1978 the first paper showing humans with only ocular albinism also have similar anomalies. In Science in 1980 he published the first paper pointing out that the auditory brainstem pathways are also abnormal in albinos. Dr. Creel has published more than 100 scientific papers and chapters. The past 15 years Dr. Creel has mainly conducted clinical research. His Internet chapters posted on Webvision.med.utah.edu on Visually Evoked Potentials and Clinical Electroretinograms are the most accessed Internet sites on these topics.
