The literature review which follows aims to build upon the academic discourse surrounding the dir... more The literature review which follows aims to build upon the academic discourse surrounding the dire need for more representation of racial and ethnic minorities within the health professions in the United States. The lack of racial/ethnic diversity within the health professions' workforce is a symptom of the low turnout in the supply of racial/ethnic minority health professionals along the health professions' pathway. This researcher identified 2015 as the baseline year for the review of the literature which follow as an exhaustive literature review was conducted by an academic research center on health care workforce trends aimed at identifying best-practices in underrepresented minority (URM) student recruitment & retention within the health professions' educational pipeline. Nearly a decade later, there remains a low number of rigorous empirical research studies/surveys of interventions to increase URM students in post-secondary, health professions programs of study. The methodology of this literature review was an online search for peer-reviewed journal articles on empirical research studies post-2015 of academic pipeline programming/interventions aimed at increasing URM student representation along the health professions' educational pipeline. Grey literature was also considered for inclusion in this literature review so long as it was empirical research on said topic.

Begining with Bartolome de Montoya I and Maria de Zamora and their children who arrived in present-day New Mexico on Christmas Eve in the year 1600 it has been extensively researched and includes hundreds of primary sources. Some historical revisionism is employed as to engage readers with nuanced discursive analysis and dialogue.
