"I do not smoke, I exercise" is a theory-based smoking prevention program that promotes exercise as an alternative of smoking. The program consists of eight sessions implemented weekly. Participants were 338 Greek students (135 elementary and 203 secondary students) who were pre- and posttested in smoking, program, and exercise-related measures. The results showed that the program had significant effects on elementary students' attitudes toward smoking, intention to smoke, subjective norms, attitudes toward the application of the program, and knowledge about the health consequences of smoking. For secondary students, significant effects were found on students' perceived behavioral control and knowledge about the health consequences of smoking, while very few students reported a smok...

In addition, the study examined the associations between the patterns and demographic characteristics, exercise, eating habits, and health-related psychological variables. Participants were 361 Greek adults, randomly selected and completed self-reported questionnaires. The surveys examined demographic characteristics, health-related psychological variables (attitudes and intentions toward exercise and healthy eating, perceived behavioral control, health locus of control, general health, self-control, and body image) and the behaviors of exercise and healthy eating. Cluster analysis identified two distinct profiles: the first segment was related to healthier exercise and eating behaviors, and more positive results in psychological variables. Interestingly, individuals in healthy segment correspond to a normal Body Mass Index (BMI). The second segment was related to more unhealthy behaviors, as like lower levels of exercise healthy eating and negative psychological variables. As expected, second segments' individuals had a mean overweight BMI. Furthermore, unhealthy segment profiles were related to higher psychological distress and lower self-control. Cluster analysis provides us an inspiring conclusion concerning the analysis of the combination of several variables. Healthy and unhealthy patterns were identified into two categories, using behaviors and psychological beliefs. The comparison between demographic characteristics and final clusters showed that age, education , type of sport (team or individual) and the total years of exercise appeared significant differences. All the above should be considered for the establishment of a healthy lifestyle to increase intervention effectiveness of weight-loss management.

Three studies were conducted. The first study tested the construct validity of the Coaching Behavior Questionnaire (CBQ) in the Greek language, and provided support for its original factor structure. The second study examined the relationships between coaching behavior and athletes' ST in field, with two different samples. The results showed that supportive coaching behavior was positively related to positive ST (in one sample) and negatively related to negative ST (in both samples), whereas negative coaching behavior was negatively related to positive ST (in one sample) and positively related to negative ST (in both samples). Finally, the third study examined the relationships experimentally, to produce evidence regarding the direction of causality. The results showed that variations in coaching behavior affected participants' ST. Overall,...

This was judged as necessary, in order to be able to serve better the aims of the journal. Our initial thoughts were that including the term 'General Hospital' in the journal's title would help us to launch a journal dedicated to the idea of Psychiatry as a medical specialty. But they were not justified; so, now the Annals of General Psychiatry (AGP) is born! It is still an Open Access, peer-reviewed, online journal covering the wider field of Psychiatry, Neurosciences and Psychological Medicine, and aims at publishing articles on all aspects of psychiatry. Primary research articles are the journal's priority, and both basic and clinical neuroscience contributions are encouraged. The AGP strongly supports and follows the principles of evidence-based medicine. AGP's articles are a...
