For any individual to utilize the healthcare system falling sick is an entry point. But not every... more For any individual to utilize the healthcare system falling sick is an entry point. But not every individual standing at this entry point is able to seek the facility provided. Despite of the government’s commitment to provide equity in access to healthcare, the utilization of health services is still below the acceptable standard. This study investigates various factors associated with the utilization of healthcare services. This was a cross-sectional study conducted in Haridwar district of Uttarakhand. A total of 450 samples were selected. A descriptive research design was employed for the study. The study indicates that 70.4% of the respondents agreed that they had utilized the health facility while 29.6% of the respondents failed to utilize the health facility. This study further explores various factors responsible for the inequity in access to healthcare.

Tourism and pilgrimage in India is regularly growing and it is acting as an essential sector for regional and national economy. In addition to generating employment, tourism and pilgrimage are useful for strengthening foreign currency deposits. According to annual report of the ministry of tourism, government of India, during 2011-12, India received a total 6.29 million foreign tourists and pilgrims. The growth foreign visitor was 8.90% in 2011 as compared to the 4.40% in year 2010. Also, total earning of foreign currency from this development was increased up to 16.70 % in 2010. Ever-increasing interest of global and national tourists and pilgrims in India is attracted by its nationwide historical, natural and cultural diversities. Peculiar monuments in terms of architectural style, holy shrines located at unbelievable locations and enchanting landscapes with diversified flora and fauna acts as recreational and subjective attractions for visitors. India is bestowed with coastal landscape in south to sky touching mountains in north. The Northern part of India is known for snow clad mountains, holy shrines, biodiversity and challenging treks. Onward Jammu and Kashmir to northeastern states in the Himalayan Mountains the diversity in landscape, culture and religious places is major attraction for inland and global tourists and pilgrims. Uttarakhand is located almost in the mid of Himalayan mountains and its proximity with the countries like China and Nepal and other Indian states like Himachal and Uttar Pradesh, make its ideal destination for pilgrimage and ecotourism. Also Uttarakhand is known to be the abode of god and goddess and many nature reserves like biosphere reserves, national parks and sanctuaries acts as a serene destination for visitors. On the hand, despite fertility in terms of leading tourist and pilgrims’ destination, Himalayan is youngest mountain chain of world; therefore, this area always remains fragile due to ecological imbalances and unregulated human interferences. It is therefore; sometimes the vulnerability of Himalayan Mountains is expressed in mass disaster including glacial melting, land sliding and flash flood. Disaster in the mountain areas acts as drastic events for tourism and pilgrimage, thus in addition to the loss of humans and livestock’s, agricultural activities and tourism or pilgrimage based economy may face severe setback. Although development is

essential but simultaneously mitigation of negative impacts, development of quick response mechanism and application of modern technologies like information technology may useful for ensuring safe tourism and pilgrimage in the mountain areas. Study of variables responsible for developing disastrous conditions and impact mitigation in relation to tourism sectors needs to be worked out. Therefore, a hypothetical model for management of tourism sector with the help of information or communication technology is discussed in this communication.

Aim: The aim of the study was to investigate the major factors for the unwillingness of the people to seek public healthcare services in the Haridwar district of Uttarakhand.
Subject & Method: The study explores the components for non-utilization of public healthcare service providers from 450 samples using the multistage stratified sampling in the study area. For the exploration of factors Principal Component Analysis and Linear Discriminant Analysis were employed.
Results: The respondents of the study area did not prefer to utilize public sector when fallen ill. The study enunciated that people often tend to utilize less of the public sector owing to the carelessness of the medical staff and lack of adequate infrastructure. This urges them to move towards the private sector.
Conclusions: The article significantly contributes to the existing body of literature on the non- seeking behavior of people for the public sector. The study highlights three major areas that need to be focused upon to diminish the existing gap between the utilization of public and private healthcare sector.

The infant mortality rate is an important factor of nation's socioeconomic welfare. In the proces... more The infant mortality rate is an important factor of nation's socioeconomic welfare. In the process of development of a state or a nation, infant mortality has been gaining its importance. It is expressed as a rate per 1000 live births of a child born in a specified year dying before reaching the age of one, has become a prime focus for many researches and public policies. Thus, reduction in IMR is likely the most important objective in Millennium Development Goals (MDG). In the study, for the consecutive 6 years (2008-2013), the seasonal variations of neonatal, post-neonatal and overall infant deaths were analyzed in the Haridwar district of Uttarakhand , State of India. The researcher has relied upon secondary data which have been collected from the CMO Office, Haridwar. The main motivation of the paper is to demonstrate the seasonal variation exhibited by the infant mortality. For the study of seasonal movement, monthly data was used for the period of 2008-2013. Indices of seasonal variations were estimated by the method of simple averages separately for both neonatal and post-neonatal infant deaths. Poisson regression model was employed to measure the seasonal effects on the overall infant deaths.
