To build the service model, SOC relies on the Service Oriented Architecture (SOA), which is a way of reorganizing software applications and infrastructure into a set of interacting services. However, the basic SOA does not address overarching concerns such as management, service orchestration, service transaction management and coordination, security, and other concerns that apply to all components in a services architecture. In this paper we introduce an Extended Service Oriented Architecture that provides separate tiers for composing and coordinating services and for managing services in an open marketplace by employing grid services.

This paper details the essential meta-data and capabilities of the ESB. It presents a summary of the key concepts of the ESB and defines the integration model for it, including key user roles. These roles are fulfilled using meta-data that describes the service endpoints, such as the service interface and policy requirements and capabilities. The ESB manages this meta-data through a registry, which supports configuration, connection, matchmaking, and discovery of service endpoints. Some typical mediation patterns that are used to satisfy endpoint policies are explored, and usage patterns are described in which the ESB is used to implement real SOAs. Ó

Aligning information technology (IT) systems using service-oriented architecture (SOA) to provide end-toend enterprise integration and virtualized IT services is a critical step. To be truly effective, however, the SOA paradigm also needs to be extended to transmute organizational structures and behavioral practices. In this paper, we first explore the governance, economic, and enterprise challenges to SOA-based IT transformation. Next, we raise the need to redesign the existing organizational models, and we propose the Human Services Bus (HSB), a new organizational structure that optimizes the workforce and streamlines cross-unit processes to leverage the new IT systems. Finally, we discuss the cultural transformation that is required to support the HSB transition and induce the changes required in management and behavioral practices. The issues and insights at all three layers-IT systems, organizational structures, and cultural practices-are based on IBM's experience with adopting on demand methods. Ó
