The paper shows that it is extremely likely that the bishop of Roskilde, Eskil, commissioned to write this chronicle to use it in the conflict on independence of the Scandinavian church province. The chronicle presents Denmark as an internationally important, civilised and long-established Christian state, with a strong connection with universal history, while at the same time presenting it as the centre of Scandinavia, and Roskilde itself as the centre of Denmark, a magnificent royal and episcopal centre with a long tradition going back to the earliest times. All of this was possibly an argument for Eskil to gain permission to fund an archbishopric in Roskilde. This thesis is supported by both linguistic and narratological arguments and develops of the claims of Helge Søgaard and Michael H. Gelting.

Based on the Norwegian, Czech and Rus' references to the antique stories from the Indo-European culture, the author identifies the old age of the myths that formed the basis of both stories which have not been until now analyzed as being mutually related. The analysis uses the methodology founded by Jacek Banaszkiewicz on the basis of Georges Dumézil's studies of religion. The proposed reading of the sources used in medieval historiography develops Dušan Třeštík's idea focused on the slavic themes - in introduces new arguments, expending it over the entire Indo-European community.

It turns out that crossing the sea could have not only a communication, trade or war dimension, but also a mythic and mystic one. The first aspect was captured in sources collectively referred to as origines gentium, the second in hagiographic literature. Based on a collective analysis was demonstraded the importance of the role of the Baltic Sea in the narrative structures and to which imaginations about sea they referred.

They considered it as the only true culmination of Christian life and the only way to salvation. In this article, this thesis was called into question and the problem was
analyzed from a messianic perspective. The first part is devoted to the discussion of the possible apocalyptic thinking of Emperor Otto III, who seems to be the key to
understanding the actions of Bruno, and through him perhaps also of Adalbert. The next part is an attempt to respond to the title issue based on the available source material that was analyzed in the light of the conclusions of part one and by using the comparative method. The final conclusions suggest reading the actions of Adalbert of Prague and Bruno of Querfurt from an apocalyptic and historiosophical perspective.

the wide spectrum of the internal relations existing in the pagan Pomeranian society, as well as confrontation between the members of the clashing pagan and christian worlds (the latter represented by the arriving missionaries) are presented. Going further, the author contemplates the extent to which said passages purely reflect the literary archetype of a pagan priest, commonly used in descriptions of christianisation, and to what extent they can be helpful in reconstructing a history of the religious cults present in Pomerania before the region’s conversion to christianity. In the last part of the article, the previously assembled conclusions are used as a starting point for a broader discussion about the pagan priests in the Slavic peoples.

At the beginning there is an introductory analysis of the specific physical features of mythological figures. In the following parts, however, problems such as: transformation possibilities and other unusual properties of the body; body as material for making things; victims of an archetypal nature. In the summary, based on an analysis of individual issues, an attempt is made to answer the key questions detailed in the introduction: What role does the body play in Norse mythology? What are the properties of the body? What is corporeality? What relations in the context of the above issues occur between mythology and everyday life in early medieval Scandinavia?

The work is split in three parts: a theoretical side, a practical side, ad final conclusions, The first touches upon issues related to the "origines gentium" stories, which are about peoples' origins, where as the second serves as a supplement to earlier considerations. Mention of several examples illustrates the practical aspect of formation and organisation of said communities, based on the premise of liberty.

In the above article, there are discussed women's creations that appear in the Helmond’s work: a woman of mercy, a woman as a prophet, an insidious woman, a woman that is a politician, a punished woman, a woman as the cause of war and a woman treated as an object and as a commodity. In addition, the text touches the problem of effeminacy.
The source analysis, made in the broader comparative context, makes it clear that despite the fact that some of Helmold's female characters should be regarded as literary topi, dominant in the author's perceptions of the place of women in the contemporary world. Thus, Chronica Slavorum primarily delivers a series of interesting information about the models of women's behavior, as well as their functions at the time when the chronicle was written.

and theologian living at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. ‘Anarchic
conservatism’, as stated in the title, was the foundation of Berdyaev’s
thinking about the state, society and freedom, which has always been the main problem in his considerations. It is only from the perspective of the philosophy of Russian freedom and his eschatological and historiosophical views that this extremely mysterious and seemingly contradictory political theology becomes comprehensible. As the article proves, it was a philosopher’s response to the ‘19th century’, i. e. to the modernity – the world of machines, new ideologies and new social relations.
