Globalization of business activities and creation of virtual organizations have produced a need f... more Globalization of business activities and creation of virtual organizations have produced a need for efficient tools to support management tasks in a new environment. Web-based Enterprise Management (WBEM) was introduced by The WBEM 5 (Microsoft, Intel, BMC Software, Compaq, Cisco Systems) in June 1996 in order to facilitate the use of Internet technologies for management of distributed systems. Distributed Management Task Force (DMTF), the organization made up of the leading companies in today’s computing industry, has adopted the initiative as a set of management and Internet standard technologies aimed to unify the management of enterprise computing environments. This paper starts from an overview on Web-Based Enterprise Management (WBEM), followed by a brief description of the standard WBEM components. It subsequently focuses on the Microsoft’s implementation of WBEM technologies—Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI), which enables enterprise IT managers to monitor, access and...

In this paper, we discuss challenges and solutions for scaling InstantLab to provide experiment infrastructure for thousands of users in MOOC scenarios. We present InstantLabs XCloud architecture - a combination of a privat cloud resources at HPI combined with public cloud infrastructures via ``cloudbursting''. This way, we can provide specialized experiments using VM co-location and heterogeneous compute devices (such as GPGPU) that are not possible on public cloud infrastructures. Additionally, we discuss challenges and solutions dealing with embedding of special hardware, providing experiment feedback and managing access control. We propose trust-based access control as a way to handle resource management in MOOC settings.

The system receives the layouts and evaluations of the building as input, indicates the location of structural supports, breaks down the floors and walls into the elements to be prefabricated, and finally generates detailed production drawings for each element. Design stages are governed by the specific features of the prefabrications system to be employed. Design alternatives are also evaluated in the course of the process. The paper reviews the principles of the system and the particular features of the computer program employed for this purpose

The paper describes a research project for investigating and designing a framework for intelligent linkage between design drawings and other information system environments, providing access to both external databases and design methods at the preliminary design stage. Accessing such information at this stage will allow designers to carry out the rapid evaluation of design alternatives, analysis and decision-making in a multi-disciplinary, multi-agent design environment. The objectives of the research are outlined, the methodology is discussed and the first application results are demonstrated.
