UWC Society (original) (raw)
at December 3rd, 2008 (08:06 pm)
Quiet for nearly whole year everyone? I had hoped when I came across this there would be a bit more activity...
Name: Kore (at least, that's my online handle)
UWC attended: At the moment it's my dream to go to one of the United World Colleges - my mother attended Armand Hammer right after it opened, and I've always wanted to attend to attend there. However, Atlantic College is also somewhere I'd really like to attend
Year of graduation: (hopefully) 2012?
Current location: North East of the United States
Two sentences to describe yourself: One of many children. Wishes to be part of a more varied society.
Anyway, I was going to apply this year, but schooling didn't work out the way it should have, and I hope to apply next year. My mother has told me stories of her time in New Mexico for as long as I can remember - it's been my dream for years to attend one of the United World Colleges, and it's pretty scary to think that I'll be applying in ten months or so, after waiting most of my life!
Questions about EE...))

Feeling: okay
Hello everybody!=)
I am the 1st year of the new UWC in Costa Rica! Everything here is so great: the environment, the people, the residences, nature…
As you know we have to write an excellent extended essay as a part of the IB program. I just wanted to ask you for good advice concerning the topic of my future work. As far as I can guess a great part of uwc_community in livejournal is much more experienced than I am so, please, could you give me a hint or a suggestion about my EE theme?:)
I was wondering of writing this work based on “Pride and prejudice” by Jane Austen (English A2 subject). As far as I know, it is quite a popular novel. According to the EE requirements, we need to create something extra-ordinary, something really special. So, I would like to ask you about the topic, probably I will connect it with the movie with Keira Knightley (“Pride and prejudice”). I would like to analyze the characters of the heroes but I am not sure of it. So, if you please can give me any hints, advices concerning the requirements and standards of writing EE as well, it will be so perfect!:D
Thank you very much!!!
It is really very important for me and I cannot decide it just be myself, so, I need your help=)
Most lovely greetings to you from all UWCCR!))
You are welcome to visit us in such a great place in the world!:)
Best regards,
Yesik.
We want peace in the Middle East

There's been a great (in a sense) string of emails back and forth between LPCers. I think I'm missing half of them because there seem to be numerous "mass LPC people" email lists and I get replies that have replies to others that I haven't seen yet...but even with some surely missing, what I'm reading is incredible.
It's hard to believe that this is happening where my friends live. It really makes this whole thing a whole lot more emotional for me. But it's great to read opinions from both sides of the conflict and see the call and longing---not just that, the activism--for peace. One of my Israeli co-years, along with our Egyptian co-year, has written up a petition:
This petiton is meant to influence decision makers on all sides of the
recent conflict between Hezballah, Lebanon and Israel. It is meant to
stop the viloence and especially the suffering, death and pain of
people, human beings on all sides.
we're planning to send it-when we get enough signatures- to
responsibles in Lebanon , Israel and the United Nations.
It's hosted by ipetitions, which I'm slightly skeptical about, but I figure that signing it can't hurt, and if it works--then GREAT! So, here's a link: http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/wewantpeace

Gosh. :D Hi to everyone. I'm Nitin, Finnish and Indian, and I've UWC-interviewes tomorrow! I got a few weeks ago an invitation to interviews and there are 25 students coming from Finland and 13 will get a scholarship! Exciting, Finnish UWC-commitee is even sending a one person to Bosnia (and how much I'd like to go to Mostar!).
This is so exciting! And as you can see my English is not so perfect but hopefully I'll get the scholarship and boost my English!

I think it's a good idea to use the new "schools" option and enter your UWC there, for example RCNUWC.

Dear all,
today Red Cross Nordic UWC celebrated its 10th birthday!! that is, we opened in 1995.
We had a big feast, guests included HM Queen of Norway Sonja, Norwegian ministers for culture, development and education, and head of Norwegian Red Cross.
Of course the whole campus was to be shiny clean...
We're all very happy (no classes today! :)) and proud ))) and ate some cake.
