'Quantico' Ratings Spike With DVR Playback, Online Streaming (original) (raw)
It has only aired once, but early ratings signs are encouraging for ABC’s new Sunday series “Quantico.” The drama about young FBI recruits in training was Sunday’s biggest gainer in delayed viewing, cementing its status as the night’s top-rated broadcast entertainment series in young adults.
According to Nielsen’s “live-plus 3” estimates, which include three days’ worth of DVR time-shifting and video-on-demand playback, “Quantico” grew from its previously reported same-night number by 62% (or 1.19 ratings points) in adults 18-49 (1.93 to 3.12). This makes it the second highest-rated rookie premiere in both raw lift (behind NBC’s 1.34 lift for “Blindspot” and a smidge better than the net’s “Heroes” at 1.18) and the highest overall on a percentage basis.
In total viewers, “Quantico” added about 4 million from same-night (7.14 million) to Live+3 (11.11 million). And according to ABC, three days of online streaming drew 830,251 viewers to bring its total to about 12 million.
“Quantico,” which stars Priyanka Chopra (pictured), also did well by repeat standards when the network aired an encore of the premiere on Tuesday of this week. It averaged a 1.0 demo rating about 4.2 million total viewers. ABC announced late Friday that the show would again air a repeat in the Tuesday-at-10 hour next week, bumping the season premiere of “Beyond the Tank.”

Also for ABC on Sunday, “Once Upon a Time” grew its lackluster 18-49 same-day rating (1.8) by 0.9 ratings points to 2.7 in Live+3 and its overall audience by 34% to 7.96 million. That helped its year-over-year 18-49 comparisons look better, as it went from a 49% falloff in same-day rating (1.8 vs. 3.5) to a 37% decline in L3 (2.7 vs. 4.3). And by rising 34% in total viewers (to 7.96 million), its year-over-year decline in overall audience was trimmed from 37% in same-day to 31% in L3.
New drama “Blood & Oil” gained 0.51 in 18-49 (from 1.36 to 1.87) and more than 1.9 million total viewers (from 6.36 million to 8.30 million). It’s the second smallest L3 gainer among the fall’s new shows, behind Fox’s “Rosewood” (0.37).
Elsewhere among Sunday series in L+3, Fox comedies “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” (1.5 to 2.1 rating) “Family Guy” (1.5 to 2.2) and “Last Man on Earth” (1.4 to 2.1) all rose by more than 40% in 18-49. All three of these shows had to do battle with NBC’s “Sunday Night Football,” which might account for their larger lifts than “Bob’s Burgers” (1.23 to 1.45, up 18%) and “The Simpsons” (1.53 to 1.89, up 23%), which aired prior to kickoff in most of the country.
At CBS, the two-hour “CSI” special, which served as the show’s finale, grew 0.6 in 18-49 to 2.4 and by about 2.6 million total viewers (to 14.87 million).
