The Girl is Silver (original) (raw)

I received a pamphlet from Rhode Island School of Design; its content was geared toward transfer students(!). I think I sent them a request for a catalog three or four years ago, when I was researching other art schools. It's interesting, the dissemination of information, how they know I'm currently enrolled in college. I certainly didn't share that with them.

This weekend was relatively quiet. I went to work and I slept a lot. Er, the two events were mutually exclusive, of course. On Saturday, Mom and I went to a cat show at the Emerald Coast Conference Center. It was a modest affair, but there were a lot of beautiful cats... none of which we were allowed to pet. Because we're possibly disease-ridden. >>; Anyway, we saw Bengals (they dominated the entries), Ragdolls (a close second), Himalayans, Persians, Sphinxes, Abbysinians, Maine Coons and Norwegian Forest Cats. Oh, man, my heart was with the latter two breeds, especially the NFC! They're large, muscled, fluffy, and very good-natured. As I've told Tasha about umpteen times, I want a large furry male cat whom I can call Cesare or Figaro. The NFC fits the bill and then some!

Aurora and Darren came over for dinner that evening, too. Lacey was at some sort of corporate function, the kind where you do team exercises and stuff. Aurora is getting so big! And she's stringing words together now. When she wants something, she'll point to it and say, "I this!" (Most often this is in reference to mini marshmallows. *l*) She's also getting the hang of saying "thank you" in addition to "please." She's also picked up "a-gain," as in, when I'm done spinning her around on the rolling chair, she demands to be spun "a-gain!" Incidentally, Aurora's hair can't decide what color it wants to be. It started out honeyed-brown, then went ginger, brilliantly lightened to sandy blonde, and is now somewhere between all three colors!

On the search for new television shows, I watched Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles at Fox.com. When I first heard about the small-screen continuation of the first two movies, I groaned. "WHY can't Hollywood create something original for once?!" I lamented. Well, imagine my surprise when I found myself really liking the show. The acting is solid and the production values are amazing. Hey, Tasha--the kid who played Zack on Heroes stars as a young John Connor (a.k.a. the Future Savior of Mankind) in this series. The role suits him.

I've decided that in addition to majoring in Illustration at SCAD, I'm going to minor in Portrait Arts. This based on my own proclivities toward drawing people, as well as my figure drawing teacher's urging to become a portraitist. Miss Lyn thinks I could have a viable career that way. Well, we'll see--I'm getting my first commission from an MOD at Lowe's. I still have no idea what to charge her. HELP. It's going to be an 8x10 portrait of her grandson, drawn with charcoal.
