Nathalie Du Pasquier: Così fan tutte, 2015-2023 / Art Basel 2024 Unlimited (original) (raw)

Nathalie Du Pasquier: Così fan tutte, 2015-2023. Apalazzogallery, Pace Gallery at Art Basel 2024 Unlimited. Official description: ‘Così fan tutte is a group of wooden columns made of painted elements assembled as a 3D collage. By combining painted surfaces and sometimes even small paintings with the three-dimensional wooden constructions, it modifies the perception we have of them – it is also another way to think about painting not only as canvases hanging on the wall.

As a group, the work allows the possibilities of the separate elements to play with each other; Così fan tutte becomes one complex opera.

There is no literal link between the title of this installation and the work of Mozart. In his opera there is an element of fun and grandeur, which in a way I associate with this Unlimited occasion! And I like the sound of this title which has to remain in Italian.’
