The Single Transferable Vote 1 Since its development in the mid-nineteenth century, the single tr... more The Single Transferable Vote 1 Since its development in the mid-nineteenth century, the single transferable vote (STV) system of voting has received a remarkable amount of scholarly attention, especially considering the system has only been adopted for national-level elections in three countries (Ireland, Australia, and Malta). The goal of this thesis is to synthesize and build upon a range of STV scholarship to form a cohesive argument regarding why the single transferable vote should be adopted in favor of other democratic voting systems. This goal will be approached four distinct stages.
