The satisfaction with life abroad depends on cultural intelligence (CQ): people with higher CQ easily adapt to a new culture. Our article seeks to understand the relationship between CQ and satisfaction with life abroad using two new variables—culture shock and cultural identity. The direct and indirect relationships between all variables have been investigated using a sample of 194 predominantly international students studying at Czech universities and the PLS SEM statistical technique. The results have shown that CQ is a positive predictor of dependent variable satisfaction with life abroad. When two mediators—cultural identity and culture shock—were added, we found out that the CQ is a positive predictor of the former and a negative predictor of the latter. The analysis of multiple mediations has further confirmed the indirect influence of culture shock (but n...

It describes the main traditional economic theories dealing with this issue—principal-agent theory (agency theory) and rent-seeking theory—and it emphasizes that both face some problems, especially their neglect of some important factors as to why corruption occurs which prevents them from accurately analyzing this phenomenon and proposing solutions on how to fight against it. The article further discusses whether institutional economics can overcome these problems. We show that it does, but that it needs to more seriously consider the environment in which corruption occurs. Redistribution system theory can serve as a useful aid here because it reveals that the source of corruption is an environment of undesirable redistribution. The article provides the characteristics of this type of redistribution and shows how its reduction also leads to the reduction in corruption. It can be concluded that economic theory...

Each situation is given an exact name explaining how intensive and extensive factors contributes to the system development. The exact contributions of the factors can be counted by so-called dynamic intensity and extensity parameters. The article describes logic of the parameters, discusses their advantages and problems and assigns their values to the presented nomenclature of the developments. The parameters are further compared with growth accounting methods and their use is demonstrated on the development of macroeconomic system on the national economy level when it is counted how intensive and extensive parameters contribute to the Czech and German GDP development in the period 1991-2017. The analysis confirms that the parameters can be used as an alternative methods to growth accounting and that managers of any economic system should pay attention whether a system achieves positive value of the dynamic intensive parameters in long run.

From an economic point of view, the main factors of system output change are changes in the quantity of inputs (extensive factors) and changes in efficiency (input quality and productivity, intensive factors). The growth accounting (GA) method is used for the calculation of the impact of both factors on GDP change. However, its interpretation is sometimes difficult, and GA does not cover all of the possible situations of system (country economy) development. This article uses mathematical tools to derive new indicators (dynamic intensity indicator and dynamic extensity indicator) that clearly count and express how the changes in intensive or extensive factors contribute to the output change in any system. The indicators come from the complex system development typology analyzed in the text. The typology covers all of the relationships among the inputs, their efficiency, and their output. The article shows the use of thes...

The task is on the macroeconomic level solved by weighted geometric aggregation of input factors (labour and capital) into summary input factor(SIF) – the method is similar to the Cobb-Douglas production function. The papers shows differences of our approach to the approach of growth accounting – our approach is based on more general condition and covers not only situations of growth of economic indicators but also situations of their falls or stagnation. The approach allows also to distinguish the compensation of input factors. So, the methodology presented in the paper can be used in many practical applications, for instance it enables us to count clearly intensive and extensive parameters of economic growth.

The paper investigates the impact of the individual factors (metacognitive, cognitive, motivational, and behavioral) of CQ on the adjustment of foreigners. The adjustment mechanism is explained in association with the individual CQ factors, using satisfaction with life as the mediator. The results of a PLS-SEM analysis on a sample of 191 foreign students studying at Czech universities have shown that all CQ factors, except for the cognitive one, are important in the process of adjusting to new intercultural (cross-cultural) situations. Our research further reveals that the effect of motivational CQ on satisfaction with life and adjustment is amplified by intercultural competencies and preparation. An individual who has spent a long time abroad in the past, has come into frequent contact with foreigners, knows the foreign language of the country they are staying in or has good linguistic skills will be more satisfied in a new country and will adjust more easily.

The article, based on a sample of 160 municipalities of the Czech Republic, empirically demonstrates that an elaborated communication strategy enhances the public value of intangible assets particularly in the following areas: various segments of citizens are better targeted through a greater number of frequented communication channels, municipal employees are more frequently trained in communication issues, crisis communication plans are likely to be prepared. On the other hand, we confirmed that all these factors are limited to some extent by the size of the municipality and the financial resources allocated for communication.

Self-efficacy expresses self-confidence in one’s own ability to handle a situation. The two concepts are closely linked, as confirmed by a number of previous studies. Using the multivariate method PLS-SEM, the predictive effect of CQ on self-efficacy is investigated; compared to previous studies, the relationship causality is reversed. A sample of 190 university students was also tested for how this relationship is moderated by two categorical variables: work experience abroad and gender. The results showed that cultural intelligence is a predictor of intercultural self-efficacy in communication. Its impact on the endogenous variable (self-efficacy) is rather weak, but significantly strengthened by work experience abroad. Gender has no effect on this relationship.

Sudden adverse change in public expenditure on education can universities put in great danger. This article discusses possible ways of increasing the share of student payments without reducing the number of students and preventing students from low income groups studying and so to reduce the dependence of universities on the government. The human capital contract, graduated tax and income-contingent loans are described and existing functioning of systems used of deferred tuition in Australia and England are analysed. The article further brings a list of reasons why no of Czech attempts to establish deferred tuition succeeded and what must be sdone before any other attempt.

The value patterns of hedonistic life style are defined by experience motivations, excitement, sensual pleasures, delight, self-satisfaction, intensive need for emotional stimulations, present-time orientation or accelerated pace of life. It is considered identical with radical inclination towards individualization life practices, rapidly growing egoism and narcissistic tendencies confirming the meaning of one’s own existence. Life philosophy of independence, non-determination and “inner orientation” logically leads to the application of such life strategies that can support and develop this attitude to life. Predatory hedonism focusing on the values of pleasurable experience requires mobility, flexibility and variability; it refuses to accept stability and obligations, i.e. anything that could tie and restrict life move...
