The authors of this article analysed the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the financial situati... more The authors of this article analysed the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the financial situation of employees in small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the Czech Republic. They conducted a questionnaire survey with 251 respondents in October and November 2021. The structure of the respondents was divided according to the size of the firms, the time of operation in the market, and the focus of business activity, which was presented in detail in the tables. Statistical methods including Quadratic SVM (support vector machine) and Gaussian process regression model were used to evaluate the changes in financial valuation among employees during the pandemic. The analysis results showed that most respondents (SMEs) did not experience a difference in their financial valuation, with the most significant salary retention observed in small-sized enterprises with international operations. The statistical methods of Quadratic SVM and Gaussian process regression model contributed to a better understanding of the financial situation of employees during the pandemic. The Gaussian process confirmed that approximately 80% of the respondents did not experience any change in their salary during the pandemic. One positive finding is some small business owners and businesses that took advantage of compensation programs from the government (e.g., nursing, isolation) with positive financial outcomes for their employees. This shows that appropriately designed subsidy policies can benefit SMEs and help them survive difficult times. Overall, it can be concluded that the COVID-19 pandemic has had an impact on SMEs, some of which have been able to adapt and use state support to maintain employment and financial stability. In supporting SMEs, the government should continue to focus its strategies on maintaining jobs and providing financial support during periods of economic crises such as the pandemic. This research provides valuable insights for the formulation and implementation of effective measures to minimize the negative impacts of crises on SMEs and their employees.

The research question was answered by testing a total of 6 hypotheses, which focused on comparing the degree of influence of factors such as firm size, industry, and profitability on the growth in the importance of supplier-customer relationships in the COVID-19 period. Boxplot and histogram were used to ensure the normality of data. The results suggest that the significance of supplier-customer relationships increased during the crisis period (COVID-19). The firm's profitability influences the growth in the importance of supplier-customer relationships before the pandemic, industry (the growth in importance is more pronounced in industrial firms) and overall sector (the growth in importance is stronger in the secondary sector than in the tertiary sector). In contrast, the association between firm size and the growth in the importance of supplier-customer relationships is not confirmed. Limitations of the study: the research results apply only to enterprises in the Czech Republic, and it is of a short-term focus (i.e., it cannot be said with certainty whether the increase in the importance of supplier-customer relationships is permanent or a short-term fluctuation). Thus, the results of the impact of individual factors may vary over longer time horizons.

Journal of Competitiveness, 2024

Change has become a necessary condition for any organisation to operate successfully in the marke... more Change has become a necessary condition for any organisation to operate successfully in the market while meeting the ever-changing demands of all stakeholders. There is simply no other way to survive the intense competition and frequent changes that occur in the market. Only organizations that are able to respond to change, learn faster and move forward gain more expertise to better face the challenges brought about by changes in the business environment. The aim of this paper is to identify what changes organisations have made in recent years and how they manage these changes. To achieve this aim, five research questions are formulated in the area of change management in the business environment of the Czech Republic. Despite progress in implementing change, some companies are still reluctant to consider strategic changes and pursue only process improvements such as performance management, restructuring or process redesign of functional areas instead. The results also indicate that some companies are rather slow to implement change, starting with planning and attempting to change the management of the company.

Methods: In order to achieve this objective, a primary quantitative survey in the form of a questionnaire survey was conducted in Czech enterprises and two research questions were set. The research questions were answered by testing four hypotheses, which focused on testing the relationship between the use of compensation bonuses and the nature of the change in the economic situation of the enterprise in terms of sector, size and prevailing business relationship. The parametric two-sample onefactor ANOVA and Pearson's Chi-squared test were used to test the hypotheses. Main findings: The results showed that the use of compensation bonuses was associated with a negative change in the economic situation of the firms. Differences in the magnitude of the effect were observed in terms of the prevailing business relationship and the size of the enterprises. The business sector did not affect the strength of the association between bonus use and change in economic situation. Limitations of the paper: the paper focuses on observing the short-term trend and is limited to Czech enterprises during the pandemic period.

A questionnaire survey of Czech companies from various business sectors was used for data collection. The sample was defined randomly based on voluntary completion. For testing the hypotheses, the instruments used were one-factor ANOVA, Pearson Chi-square test. The study determines the digitalisation measures used and the change in the level of digitalisation of business processes. It provides an overview of the short-term impact of the measures on business performance. It confirmed the link between the growth in the level of digitalisation of external communication and the business sector (for industrial enterprises). Confirmed the association between the digitalisation of product offerings and service measures) and the level of digitalisation of marketing, the level of the website, the education and training of staff (measures), and the level of external communication. The association between the measures taken and the enterprise's financial situation during the pandemic was not confirmed. The results are limited to the Czech environment and the pandemic period. Due to how the sample is defined, insights regarding the wholesale and retail sectors are inconclusive. The study does not take into account long-term follow-up of changes.

Digitalization of BSR (buyer supplier relationship) is generally one of the effective tools to st... more Digitalization of BSR (buyer supplier relationship) is generally one of the effective tools to strengthen the supply chain. This study aims to establish the correlations between the perceived importance of BSR, investment in BSR digitalization and ER (economic result) change. Data collecting was realized in the form of a questionnaire survey. This survey was carried out in Czech enterprises of different focuses and sizes. Hypotheses are tested using Pearson's Chi-squared test. The study confirmed that correlation between the perceived importance of BSR and investment to BSR digitalization is stronger for producers than for service providers. The investment in BSR digitalization brings about ER development in the short term only for services providers. Enterprises do not associate the development of ER and the importance of BSR. BSR is considered an important area as part of the SCM whole, but ER development is not associated with this area, nor does investment in this area have a clear economic effect in a recession. Thus, the logical triad of "importance of the process-investment in process development-process effect" is unprovable in the case of BSR digitalization in a recession.

The main objective was to identify the most profitable and most lossmaking processes, to evaluate the value added of individual production operations, to assess the potential for outsourcing certain processes, and to analyse the profitability of specific orders. The study uses a selection of 30 atypical orders from 2022, obtaining data on selling prices, production hours and costs associated with production and overhead. The analysis shows that manufacturing processes add the most value, while inspection processes are less profitable. Processes suitable for outsourcing were identified, especially when in-house capacity is not used. It was also found that the most profitable orders are those that combine high product uniqueness with efficient use of materials and production hours. The PVA methodology allowed to quantify the added value in the context of time and cost parameters and revealed that contracts with high time pool and unit costs have the most significant added value. PVA indices were established to better reflect the results achieved. The research findings have practical implications for the organization and efficiency of the production process at STS Prachatice, contribute to the development of business policy and procurement activities, and serve as innovative material for academic purposes. The study demonstrates that the PVA method is an effective tool for analysing and optimising business processes, enabling companies to better understand and manage process value-added in order to increase profitability and competitiveness. The implementation of this method in practice has shown concrete economic benefits and provided valuable information for further business policy and procurement solutions.

To achieve this goal, the method of online questionnaire survey was selected for data collection. The methods of correlation and regression analysis and structural equation modelling were used for data processing. Results obtained by interviewing business representatives show that companies often need to realize these are CSR principles to implement CSR activities. The most commonly used CSR communication tools include "Public relations & publicity" and "Internet marketing"; however, no statistically important correlation between these tools has been confirmed. The research results confirm that companies using CSR for marketing communication are aware of its importance concerning the brand's positive perception; on the other hand, from the perspective of the interviewed companies, no link between CSR, its communication, and the company's reputation has been confirmed. Companies might not be aware of the benefits the implementation of CSR and CSR communication may bring. Based on the research results, it can also be confirmed that the communication tools most commonly used by the companies that perceive the connection between CSR and CVP are online, i.e., digital marketing. The benefits of the research for practice consist in recommending the application of CSR-related marketing communication tools regularly and appropriately in the long run. Another recommendation is the targeted working with companies' reputation and promoting the good name of the brand. It shows that CSR communication can effectively build a brand's reputation, image, and identity. The results show that business representatives might need to be aware of all these benefits, including the potential impact on CPV.

Its logical reflection is a deteriorating condition of national and regional economies and their vehicles—enterprises. Negative effects of the crisis have influenced both the manufacturing sector and the services sector, where some segments have been hit fatally. In the corporate sphere in general, including in the services sector, there has been a growing need to change the approach to corporate strategy. The strategy should be generated based on management of value-creating processes with the objective to maximize satisfaction of customers while minimizing costs. This is also the topic of this paper. A representative sample of small and medium enterprises from the services sector have been surveyed about their size, using mathematical statistics and models that have been proposed to maximize profit probability. This study is based on the survey data of over 450 enterprises in different sizes and sector categories conducted in 2016–2019. Statistical dependence between the type of organizational structure and size of an enterprise is confirmed with a trend of transition to a department-based organizational structure at the expense of a division-based structure. A high degree of statistical dependence is found between the number of management levels and size of a company. However, a low level of statistical dependence is found between the number of management levels and the sector type. Dependence between management structure/size of an enterprise and its profitability is not confirmed. A critical strategic task for companies is acceleration of the transformation of the company architecture, includi...

The global Covid-19 pandemic even strengthens this trend. The degree of digitalization of corporate processes becomes the SME stability and development limitation. The paper submitted presents the results of research focused on the issue of digital transformation of business models on a test sample of 496 SMEs (out of which 214 operate in the manufacturing sector and industry and 218 are included in the services sector) using the method of dimensionality reduction and logit regression.

According to our search in local and international literature, corporate environment defined in this manner, including an analysis of value chain, in order to formulate a business strategy, has not been yet investigated in any study. Our testing group consisted of 373 small and medium enterprises. Our solution utilized methods of dimensional reduction and gradual regression analysis. The objective of our research was to analyze significance of components of the corporate environment (micro environment, mezzo environment and macro environment) and of the value chain from the viewpoint of their effects on profitability of enterprises. We have demonstrated an irreplaceable role of internal sources depending on the mezzo environment.
