The citizen has the democratic right to express his needs and aspiration; he is the final user who experiences the outcomes of the policy decisions. Non involvement of the citizens in the planning process can bring about the misinterpretation of the intention of political leadership and lead to opposition and protest. The inadequate understanding of citizens of the urban context makes public participation ineffective. In this context, the decision-makers are often faced with the challenges of the level of confidence of the citizens about their ideas and responses being incorporated in the project and the confidence of the citizens in the local urban authority in its ability to carry out the project. However, the decision-makers base their decision on the assumption that the citizens have a general understanding of the urban issues. This research work investigates the basis of this assumption. 1. Do the citizens have confidence that the local urban authority considers their choices and responses in the course of decision making 2. Do the citizens have the confidence that the local urban authority can undertake the Urban Regeneration project 3. Whether in the decision-making process of urban regeneration intervention, citizen's responses are backed by a general understanding of urban issues. The case study taken up is of Hassan city. Five areas of crucial importance have been selected based on the development plan report of the city. The integrated approach aims to find the most appropriate area for proposing the Urban Regeneration project. The framework adopted includes 1. Questionnaire survey: to collect citizens' responses 2. Analysis of variance (ANNOVA) for analysis of the data collected.

However, these are always becoming targets of adverse effects of development around the streams particularly in urban areas due to presence of human activities like urbanization and climate change. As a result of these activities, most of the urban streams have got degraded due to encroachment, siltation discharge of domestic sewage, surface drainage caring sand and silt and other chemical pollutants. Literature review is conducted to study how resilience and ecosystem services can play important role in climate change adaptation and to keep balance between nature and society. This review paper is to analyse the Green Infrastructure (GI) and the recent Blue-Green Infrastructure (BGI) are the multidisciplinary approaches to combat the negative impact of urbanization and climate change on urban streams and revive the condition totally. Identification of the need of development of Blue-Green infrastructure framework to transform nallahs (dirty drains) to nadis(Streams) in India. Keywords-[Climate change, Resilience, ecosystem services, green infrastructure, blue-green infrastructure]

Urban Regeneration seeks to bring about appropriate guided transformations in the physical, socia... more Urban Regeneration seeks to bring about appropriate guided transformations in the physical, social, economic and environmental contexts of the city that has deteriorated over a period of time. The historic core of the city is one such place that gets worn out, disguised and ultimately destroyed. This collective asset of the city and its community is valuable, needs to be recognised, restored and managed. The case of each Indian city is such that it presents a unique character, hence demands unique intervention. The present article focuses on a small city of Hassan, in the state of Karnataka, India. The historic core of the city is centred on community living, and traditional occupations, dotted with temples marked by local fairs and festivals, presently endangered with traffic movement, parking, inappropriate land uses and the like. The proposal aims at restoration of the historic glory of the city based on a careful analysis of the existing situation and opportunities available. A holistic intervention approach proposed is based on the internal–external factor evaluation, and the prioritization matrix. The work presented can be a model for urban regeneration intervention that can be replicated contextually in the urban historic core of any small city across the globe.

Climate had a major effect on the performance of the traditional building architecture and its energy consumption in hot dry area of North Karnataka region. These strategies include: layout orientation, distance between buildings, building orientation & form, climatic elements such as Roof projections, jharokhas, central courtyard to mention a few Many Vernacular Technologies are Energy efficient and sustainable although some of them are currently no longer functioning properly because of changed culture and ecological situations. In this regard the key challenge is to learn fundamental lessons and principals of Vernacular Architecture, and to find the ways of integrating those principles into development programmes to plan new residence. Studying Traditional Techniques to understand the sustainable strategies used in hot-dry region to achieve thermal comfort should make a valuable contribution to the field. The paper depicts empirical study of a vernacular residence of Kalaburagi.

There are a multitude of stakeholders, the citizens being the key stakeholders. It is necessary to involve the citizens in the planning process. Such involvement allows the communities to express their needs and aspirations, which is useful in the policymaking, delivery of planning programs, and in the monitoring process. In such a context, Factor analysis was the statistical technique used (1) Carry out factor analysis based on the principal component analysis method using the software XLSTAT 2021.4.1.1205 - (2) Construct a factor model of Urban Regeneration. (3) Interpret and label the factor dimensions. The results of the analysis indicated that the first two principal components accounted for 60.04% of the total variance of the original dataset. All variables seemed to be, positively correlated to each other and contributed similarly to principal components PC1 &PC2. The observations were well clustered; except for very few outliers. The limitation of the work was that the perceptions of the citizens were limited to the variables derived by the researcher.

Rapid urbanization, depleted resources, imbalance in urban hydrologic cycle, tremendous pressure ... more Rapid urbanization, depleted resources, imbalance in urban hydrologic cycle, tremendous pressure on ecological functions, unhygienic and unhealthy environment is the scenario in almost all Indian cities. Water resources in the urban areas are fast depleting while the demand for the same is fast growing. Now more than ever before, water resources face threats from climate change, population growth, aging infrastructure, declining revenues, and a variety of other localized challenges. The challenge is to find ecologically sustainable, socially justified, economically viable, culturally transferable, and technological and managerial innovations which are appropriate to meet the needs of the future generations i.e. sustainable urban development. What is sustainable development? Detail study of sustainable development goals especially related to water, various recent trends of city development at major parts of world, from water perspective like Water-sensitive city, Water-wise city.
