My work focuses on the study of motor skill learning. In doing so, I attempt to integrate theoretical and applied considerations. Theoretically, I try to use Herbert L. Dreyfus' phenomenological approach to reconcile current debates on the role of instructions, feedback and variability in motor learning. Empirically, this is underpinned with studies into the effectiveness of explicit and implicit learning interventions in sports (e.g. soccer, racket sports) rehabilitation (e.g., individuals with CVA and cerebral palsy) and physical education (e.g., videofeedback and -modelling). Currently, I am increasingly captivated in an exploring risk-taking and creativity in the context of motor skill learning.
Another main source of inspiration is ecological psychology, which has led to a strong focus on the role of visual perception in motor skill learning. Empirically, this has resulted in a large body of work that includes interception and aiming in sport situations (e.g., anticipation, visual search, decision making).
