Antoon Van den Braembussche is since october 2011 professor emeritus of art criticism at the Free University of Brussels. He also taught extensively (from 1980 till 2007) philosophy of history and aesthetics at the Erasmus University of Rotterdam. In the academic year 1997-1998 he was head of the theory department at the Jan van Eyck Academy (Maastricht). He was a visiting professor at the universities of Bielefeld, Calcutta, Javdapour, Amsterdam, Helsinki, Turku and Ghent, the Higher Institute of Fine Arts (HISK), the Center for Philosophy East-West (FOW, Utrecht), the School for Comparative Philosophy in Antwerp (SCFA), Academia Vitae (Deventer) and Centre Erasme (South of France).
He gave about 450 lectures, published about 20 books, hundreds of articles and reviews. In 2009 "Thinking Art" was published by Springer. This book is an English translation of his already classical Dutch introduction to philosophy of art, Denken over Kunst, which is widely considered as a standard work in the field.
Recently Van den Braembussche edited "Intercultural Aesthetics" (Springer, 2009) and co-authored "Baudelaire in Cyberspace: Dialogues on Art, Science and Digital Culture" (ASP, 2008), with bio-artist Angelo Vermeulen.
Van den Braembussche also published six poetry booklets in Dutch and performed regularly his own poetry on stage, sometimes even improvising right on the spot together with a jazz ensemble.

Meer in het bijzonder is hij bezig met de studie van het postmodernisme (deconstructie, intertekstualiteit, sublieme, postmoderne tendensen in dans, fotografie, film, literatuur enz…); het poststructuralisme (Foucault, Deleuze, Lyotard, Derrida, Baudrillard); comparatieve wijsbegeerte en/of interculturele esthetica (Dogen, Indische rasa-theorie, Zen en kunst, enz…); representatie en collectieve herinnering (historische taboes en trauma’s, trauma en kunst); de filosofie van de digitale cultuur en contemporaine kunst (net-art, computer games en kunst, nieuwe media en kunst, virtualiteit en kunst, enz…).
