Considering the above, [a] outline how Rousseau makes his case and [b] decide to what extent you agree with his reasoning / conclusions. development is seen as directly correlated variables. Hence, the literature focused only on the
negative and positive outcomes that social revolution brings in terms of Western-oriented
(traditional) development indicators. To implement a critical approach towards traditional
development and contribute to the literature, this research aims to suggest a third variable–
people’s aspirations–that links social revolution and development. In this approach, the
comparisons of the social, political and economic environment and regulations before and
after the Jasmine Revolution of Tunisia are analyzed. Then, these changes are examined and
contrasted with the public opinion surveys about what the Tunisians genuinely demand. The
analysis concludes that social revolutions may constitute a gateway to development–a
multifaceted concept consisting of different branches–under two conditions. Firstly, progress
in all the multifaceted dimensions of development has to concurrently occur. Secondly, these
progresses have to satisfy the demands of the people who initiated the revolution. Therefore,
the relationship between social revolution and development is defined with aspirations of
people.
