Middle East Peace Campaign: Teaching the Children to Live in Peace This newsletter is presented by our Middle East affiliate, the Association for Prosperity & Security in the Middle East. We are teaching the children of the Middle East how to live in peace. Read what the children are saying if you want your hopes and spirit lifted! -- The Way to Happiness Foundation International Let the Children Speak! Association for Prosperity & Security in the Middle East by Danny Vidislavski, General Director A few weeks ago Ofer Plaut, our Senior The Way to Happiness Lecturer, held a session for elementary school aged children. This time Ofer decided not to submit a report on what he said nor what he did but rather give us a special glance at how the children reacted to the lecture - their insights, views and feelings they described through their letters to Ofer. These are a few of the answers to Ofer’s question of “What did you learn today?” Children's Answers: What Did You Learn Today? Today I learned that when someone hits you, you shouldn’t hit them back, but use your mouth to talk and not to hit or curse. I learned one thing: hitting can lead to death. I learned that we need to live in Happiness and not in violence. If we live in violence our lives will be bad, bitter and damned. I learned about violence and Happiness. We need to control the anger in our heart and not to lose control. I learned what Happiness is and what violence is. It’s important to know how not to get angry so quickly, but to first chill out and talk. I learned about Happiness and violence ... Violence brings down the Happiness – then there’s no Happiness. If we restrain or control ourselves and be responsible-for-our-actions we will have a better world. I learned that restraint/control determines if we live on the positive or negative side of life. How to achieve more love and friends. I learned to give, to treat those around me with respect and if I give from myself then I will receive from others. I learned today that we need to fulfill our obligations and once you do you can achieve anything you want. I learned to listen to my friends. Also it’s not good to curse and not advisable to hit or hurt because if you do you’ll get more (cursing and hitting) back. I learned today that I need to fulfill my obligations and I learned what restraint is. Until now, over 30,000 children from all over the country have participated in our lectures, sessions and workshops all based on The Way to Happiness book. The above feedback is only a small sample of the children’s achievement in understanding the importance of values from The Way to Happiness – a logical guide to a better life. So we’ll all remember that children are Happier with a lot less violence! Would you like your children to learn The Way to Happiness? Many surprises to come soon……… Danny Vidislavski General Director Association for Prosperity & Security in the Middle East Implementing “The Way to Happiness” | |

_1:28 am_[rangoon] | One Thing you can Do to Stop Rape Help Protect Women from Domestic ViolenceTell Congress to reauthorize the Violence Against Women Act.Urge Congress to Reauthorize the Violence Against Women Act by signing this petition. When you go home at night, do you feel safe?If you do, count yourself lucky; for many women, their home is not aplace of safety, but a place of fear and violence.More than 700 women each day are abused or sexually assaulted by theirpartners - and four are murdered. At Care2, I am working with Amnesty International USA to stop thisviolence; I need your signature. Sign this petition to help renew theViolence Against Women Act (VAWA), currently under consideration byCongress:http://go.care2.com/30177VAWA works: after its passage in 1994, rates of domestic violenceincidents dropped by almost 50% and incidents of rape are down by 60%.Ten years ago, the U.S. created VAWA to provide desperately neededshelter, counseling, medical, and justice services for the 700 women andchildren who are affected by domestic violence every single day in thiscountry. Now, it is up for reauthorization by Congress and there is agood chance it could be cut. If it is, funding for domestic violenceshelters is at risk. Children who witness domestic violence are at evengreater risk. And, we may slow the progress that we've made inpreventing violence against women.Help us continue to decrease domestic violence and rape by signing thispetition today:http://go.care2.com/30177- Hilary S.Care2 and ThePetitionSite.comPS. _3:06 pm_[rangoon] | Watch Pirg on PBS Tonight Hi ,Tonight, Friday, July 15th, our Environmental Health Advocate Meghan Purvis will appear on the PBS news show NOW. The show, titled "Chemical Plant SecurityAfter 9/11," will focus on the lack of chemical security protections since September 11th, 2001, and will feature our report, "Needless Risk: Oil Refineriesand Hazard Reduction."To tune in tonight, checkhttp://www.pbs.org/now/index.htmlor your local listings. Invite your friends and family to watch as well by forwarding this email to them.Across the country, there are more than 100 facilities that each put more than one million Americans at risk of injury or death in the event of an accidentor terrorist attack. Despite heightened public concern about terrorism since September 11, Congress and the Bush administration have done little to protectthese facilities. This show will draw much-needed attention to this inaction at a key moment - right now Congress is preparing to debate legislation requiringchemical plants to reduce the risk of chemical accidents by using safer alternatives to extremely hazardous chemicals whenever possible.Once you've seen the program, please take a few minutes to tell Senator Collins, the chair of the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, what you think should be done.To take action, click on this link or paste it into your web browser:http://www.safefromtoxics.org/tx.asp?id=1125&id4=ESSincerely,Gene KarpinskiU.S. PIRG Executive DirectorGeneK@uspirg.orghttp://www.USPIRG.org |

_5:06 pm_[rangoon] | Expose the World's Largest Oil Company Hi ,Today, we joined with 11 other environmental and public interest groups to launch an unprecedented campaign to "Exxpose Exxon" and the company's efforts to drill for oil at any cost.As the world's largest and most profitable oil company, ExxonMobil needs to shed its past as an irresponsible oil company and move forward as a responsible energy company - one committed to more than drilling at any price. What can you do? Take a moment to tell CEO Lee Raymond how you feel about ExxonMobil's policies on global warming, the Arctic Refuge, and oil dependence.Send a letter pledging not to buy ExxonMobil's gas, invest in ExxonMobil's stock, or work for the company. Then ask your family and friends to help Exxpose Exxon by forwarding this email to them.To take action, click on this link or paste it into your web browser:http://www.savethearctic.com/exxposeexxon/exxon.asp?id=42&id4=ESWhy ExxonMobil?ExxonMobil represents yesterday's energy policy at a time when we desperately need to move forward. At every turn, ExxonMobil has acted consistently to move our country backward. Despite earning record profits at a time of rising gasoline prices, ExxonMobil has failed to invest in clean energy solutions to ease America's oil dependence.ExxonMobil has funded pseudo-scientists to produce "research" to hide the facts about global warming and worked to derail efforts to cut global warming pollution. The company also continues to lobby to drill in the pristine Arctic National Wildlife Refuge to help fuel the country's oil addiction and pad its bottom line - just for a little while longer. Please take a moment to tell CEO Lee Raymond how you feel about ExxonMobil's policies on global warming, the Arctic Refuge, and oil dependence. Send a letter pledging not to buy ExxonMobil's gas, invest in ExxonMobil's stock, or work for the company. _12:46 am_[rangoon] | Help Improve Conditions in Africa AIDS is a very serious problem in many countries in Africa. Recently I saw a performance given by the Watoto Children's choir of Uganda. It was made up of orphans, ages 6-13, who had lost their parents to AIDS and other tragedies. Their show was very touching, and it reinforced the message to me that we need to do something to reach out to them, and make conditions better. Here is something you can do from the comfort of your own home. I urge you to sign the petition and do whatever you can to get involved at a time when we, as a country, have pledged to help these people. - Rangoon**( read more..Collapse )** |

_1:03 am_[rangoon] | LRH Quote of the Week "What is important is how much service you can give the world and how much you can get done and how much better you can make things. These are importantthings. These are all that are important. A bank account never measured the worth of a man. His ability to help measured his worth and that's all. A bankaccount can assist one to help but where it ceases to do that it becomes useless." - L. Ron HubbardI've been saying this myself for quite awhile now. |

_11:59 am_[rangoon] | The Race Against Man's Savage Instincts By now, I'm sure you're all already aware of the explosions that occurred in London this morning. The effects of this brutality were devastating: 40 people were killed and hundreds were injured. What makes this tragedy even more sickening is that it was targeted at innocent civillians who had nothing to do with the rage of the attackers. The results of this attack were devastating:"I saw lots of people coming out covered in blood and soot. Black smoke was coming from the station. I saw several people laid out on sheets," office workerKibir Chibber, 24, said at the Aldgate subway station.Simon Corvett, 26, on an eastbound train from Edgware Road station, described "this massive huge bang ... It was absolutely deafening and all the windowsshattered.""You could see the carriage opposite was completely gutted," he said. "There were some people in real trouble."We can't allow brutal acts like these to continue. The slaughter of mankind by his own is not something that should exist in a society as advanced as the one in which we live. To turn a blind eye to brutality at ANY level is to permit it. "The world is a dangerous place, not because of those who do evil, but because of those who look on and do nothing." -- Albert Einstein**We must do something about the problem.**In today's world of war, terrorism and weapons of mass destruction there will never be enough laws, police or military force to ensure peace and security. It is now imperative that we work quickly and effectively to create a higher standard of values, decency and trust amongst all mankind. So as you can see, we are now in a vital race between becoming better people and destroying ourselves. Who will win, love or brutality? But there is hope. Something can be done about it. Read The Race Against Man's Savage Instincts. How do you think we, as a community wishing to improve lives, can reach out to the victims of this horrible travesty and those who were affected by it in some way? |

_2:54 am_[rangoon] | The Way to Happiness Hello,As you all know, the world today is plagued by a variety of problems. Drug abuse is destroying lives everywhere. Seventy percent of the world or higher lives on less than a dollar per day. Violence, greed, abuse, poverty, homelessness, destruction of the planet...these are all problems that we have to solve in order for our race to continue.Well, the good news is that there is an answer. There is a book that is changing conditions in life. Simply by passing it out and getting others to read it, you can create change that spreads out one person at a time. By getting people to follow the 21 simple precepts in this book, you can help people to live happier lives and build a better world.**WHAT TO DO:**First, read the book online. Make sure you understand each precept and what it means. (If you are blind and having trouble reading the PDF document, I have a text version available. I am also working on translating it into Grade II Braille to read with an electronic Braille device or emboss with a Braille embosser.)Start working on the precepts. Take one precept per day, or per week, and focus on living your life by that precept. Do this until you have covered all 21 precepts.Get others to read the book. Send them the link to the book and have them read it, or order copies and pass them out.Help others to understand the precepts and use them in their lives.Take on projects to help spread this book and its precepts. There are several ways you can do this. If you are still in gradeschool, you can participate in activities for kids listed on the website such as the essay contest. You can also order personalized editions of the book to distribute to others. The ways you can build a better world are endless! This is just one of many ways you can improve the world around you. In the future, I will post other opportunities for changing lives and creating a better planet. Now go out there, and make the world better! |
