isol8d Hello my kung fu brothers and sisters. I've been learning from Sifu George in Altamonte for close to five years now. In the last year or so I really have been focusing on sparring. I was lucky enough to be able to spar at the temple for a couple months before Nick Scrima's tournament this year. Since then, we've been able to reform our sparring class at our school! Way cool. nymphie A Moon Festival was held in Orlando this past Saturday. I was there to take pictures of my kung fu temple's performance. Wah Lum did numerous things: dragon dancing, lion dancing, drumming, kung fu demos, tai chi demos, weapon forms... if you would like to see the images, I have them here :). here's a preview:
tryptefan has anyone else learned the form "36 hands"?i am having a really hard time keeping it straight - i tend to neglect my kung fu during the week in favor of tai chi and video games ...from what i've been told the form features pieces from 5 different styles.... snake, buddha palm, long fist, eagle claw(?), and tiger(?). it was originally a test form at the shaolin temple and was performed in a row in front of the teachers. it is designed to be tricky and it really is. markb33611 Hello,I trained with Wahlum in Tampa from 2001-2002 when I was living there. It was a good experience, and I might take some more Kung Fu if I get the chance.The reason I stopped going is because the training got very repetitive and I wasn't getting anything out of it anymore. Does anybody feel this way? I got the 10B certificate and then after a while it stopped being fun. I would ask the instructors to learn something new and often I got "work on something you already know." When you practice something and then come to class and expect to learn but end up just practicing more, what is the point of coming to class at all?Anyway, that's just a little frustration I had, but I wouldn't mind going back to a Wahlum school at some point if I get the opportunity. tryptefan hi,my name is ben.in addition to chen tai chi and dragon bagua, i also study wah lum.i live in jacksonville and attend the school started by sifu frank paolillo.i had been training tai chi and bagua for about a year and a half when i started mantis and the moves still feel really awkward to me.thanks for making this community - i look forward to reading about other people's experience with mantis. aero I am not an active member of Wah Lum, but I greatly admire and respect the artform . I once attended the Temple in Orlando and will never forget the things that I learned and achieved there.I am working on the interests and looks of the community.
