It has been shown that engagement is a key factor to increasing retention, but traditional methods of engagement may not reach the technologically savvy student of today. The purpose of this study was to determine if social media—specifically microblogging—engaged students in a way that lead to higher retention. Connecting the use of social media to the institution’s mission was essential to engaging students with the content of their chosen field and to thought leaders throughout industry. This study’s intent was to work with faculty to implement social media in pedagogically sound ways in all schools of the institution.
