Since its establishment in 2002, the Faculty of World Economy and International Affairs (FWEIA) has placed primary emphasis on supporting scientific research and integrating its results into the educational process.
Faculty members actively participate in the research activities of HSE University, in particular, in the following strategic projects: Social Policy for Sustainable Development and Inclusive Economic Growth, National Centre for Science, Technology and Socio-Economic Foresight; Success and Self-Sufficiency of the Individual in a Changing World, as well as conducting fundamental research under HSE University's research programme.
Research projects developed at the Faculty regularly receive commissions from the highest bodies of the Russian state authorities and international organisations, including the Presidential Administration of Russia, the Presidential Executive Office for Foreign Policy, the Presidential Executive Office for Interregional and Cultural Relations with Foreign Countries, the Ministry for the Development of the Russian Far East and Arctic, the Roscongress Foundation, the Russian Export Center, the State Budget Institution «Agroexport», the Eurasian Development Bank and the Eurasian Economic Commission, as well as private companies, including PJSC «MMC Norilsk Nickel», Udokan Copper, NOVATEK, JSC «Splav», and the Russian Export-Import Bank (Roseximbank).
Faculty experts contribute to the development of key strategic documents of the Russian Federation, including «Strategic Directions for the Development of Eurasian Economic Integration», and provide expert and analytical support for major areas of Russia's foreign economic and foreign policy development—particularly export strategies for new markets and the alignment of the Greater Eurasia and Belt and Road Initiative concepts. They also make a significant contribution to the development and promotion of strategic concepts such as the «Pivot to the East» and the «Global Majority».
The Faculty's Russian research partners include the Council on Foreign and Defense Policy, the Valdai Discussion Club, Russia in Global Affairs, the Russian International Affairs Council (RIAC), the Alexander Gorchakov Public Diplomacy Foundation, and the Orientalia Rossica portal. In parallel, the Faculty maintains a stable network of partnerships with leading global universities and research centres, which continues to expand with new participants and collaborative projects.
An important component of the Faculty's research activities is international cooperation, including participation in major international events, launching and sustaining transnational strategic dialogues, and conducting joint research projects with foreign academic institutions.
