Many predicted the Philadelphia Charge -- a young group of core players under the age of 25 -- to finish their inaugural season in last place. The Charge not only surpassed those low expectations, but their 9-8-4 record enabled them to make the playoffs.

Despite their average age, the Charge boasts an experienced roster. Lorrie Fair, 23, has appeared in more than 80 games with the U.S. National Team since 1996, including 29 starts in 2000. She also helped lead the University of North Carolina to three national championships and was named U.S. Soccer's 1999 Chevrolet Youth Female Athlete of the Year.

Kelly Smith, 22, and Mandy Clemens, 23, anchor the forward position. Smith, a member of England's National Team since the age of 16, led the nation in scoring twice during her career at Seton Hall University. Clemens has made four appearances with the U.S. National Team and won both the Hermann Trophy and Missouri Athletic Club Award following her senior season at Santa Clara University in 1999.

The Charge's outside backs tandem of Heather Mitts and Jenny Benson are as good as any in the league, and Liu Ailing in midfield is showing why she was a mainstay with the Chinese National Team for a decade.
