About this page

This page is dedicated to helping understand lyrics in various languages. It is not intended to give translations of any lyrics (this is so the page is purely its author's work, like any literary interpretation or free explanation of a work of art, so copyright issues will not arise).

This page currently covers (or is seeking to cover) the lyrics of a number of songs by Lisa Ekdahl that are only available in Swedish so an English explanation (and maybe a basic understanding of Swedish and Swedish culture ;-) is useful for savouring the songs.

1, Öppna upp ditt fönster (song published on CD album: Lisa Ekdahl Lisa Ekdahl, Track 1 - Swedish lyrics might be found here)

Work in progress follows, contributions welcome

The lyrics of this song are advice to a woman whose love has left her. She would rather ban him from her mind but that's not going to happen, whether she would admit it to herself or not. So it will be better for her to open her mind to the facts as well as to the possibilities of her life, to "open her window" (Öppna upp ditt fönster), than to lock herself in. (...)

The refrain tells her to shout out that she loves him and wants it back like it used to be, and make sure that he knows that she wants to start over. The bottom line is "(...)" (Låt allt bli som förr)

2, Benen i kors (song published on CD album: Lisa Ekdahl Lisa Ekdahl, Track 2 - Swedish lyrics might be found here)

Work in progress follows, contributions welcome

A woman's song who would like to start a relationship with a man she likes - with things put very humorously - without making big fuss ("this is not about standing up for my ideals" - "Vill inte stå upp för mina ideal"), without pressing him ("Åh, jag vill inte stressa dig Och jag vill inte pressa dig") - she says she just wants to sit with him calmly, her legs crossed, savouring his presence ... until he finally gets the message ("...")

Track nr 6 from the CD album: Lisa Ekdahl Lisa Ekdahl Åh Gud (Oh God) is a woman describing the man she loves and how marvelous he is and how she is seduced and mesmerized by him.

Track nr 7 from the CD album: Lisa Ekdahl Lisa Ekdahl"Det är en nåd" is a beautiful lovesong, sung from the perspektive of a friend of the lovers. As I see it there's a girl singing to a guy about how much her friend loves him, though the friend won't admit it out loud, but her body (and her talking in her sleep) shows it, and the friend wants to tell him that because giving and recieving such love is a.... (I dont know how I shall translate "nåd" in this context)... it's like a great favour, almost a "holy gift" or something like that... It's like she wants to tell them to really cherish this love they share.

Track nr 8 from the CD album: Lisa Ekdahl _Lisa Ekdahl_This was a song you heard on the radio all the time in Sweden in 1994, it was a very big hit, maybe because of Lisas very special voice. Either you love it or it annoys you, Sweden was divided, but many loved it. The song is about destiny, that nobody knows if they are predicted to meet or not.

Track nr 13 from the CD album: Lisa Ekdahl Lisa Ekdahl Du sålde våra hjärtan (You sold our Hearts) is a song about a breakup, she feels the he sold his heart and soul - and her dignity, too.
