Mario Ledesma was an Under 19 and Student international before his elevation to the senior squad for his debut against Uruguay in June 1996. However the presence of Fredico Mendez has limited Ledesma�s opportunities with six of his caps coming as a replacement for Mendez and the remainder when the Northampton hooker/prop was unavailable. He was sent off in a club match before the tour to Britain, forcing his withdrawal from that tour, and only after appeal was his suspension lifted to allow him to play in the World Cup. At RWC'99 he was an ever present for the Pumas.
