Laboratory of Astronomical Imaging (original) (raw)

The Laboratory for Astronomical Imaging (LAI) is located in the department of Astronomy at the University of Illinois. LAI is the Illinois contingent of the Berkeley-Illinois-Maryland-Association (BIMA), the consortium which runs the BIMA array (a 10-element mm-wave radio interferometer) in Hat Creek, California. With our close ties to NCSA we are responsible for developing new software and image analysis techniques for the BIMA consortium.

If you are interested in more images of the array, please see these images which are available courtesy of UC-Berkeley. If you are interested in images taken by the array, please explore the NCSA Astronomical Digital Library where many images from the BIMA array are archived.

The Combined Array for Research in Millimeter-wave Astronomy (CARMA) will create a powerful astronomical tool by merging two university-based millimeter arrays - the Owens Valley Radio Observatory (OVRO) millimeter array and the BIMA array. CARMA will be fully operational from 2005. LAI is a member of the CARMA consortium.
