Bangalore, July 1st - Nirmala Nagara, Municipal eGovernance project 'City Websites' and 'Public Grievance & Redressal' modules were inaugurated by Hon'ble Minister for Municipal Affairs & KUIDFC, Karnataka Sri S.R.Morey, for 7 cities of Mysore,Bijapur,Gokak,Raichur,Udupi,Mahadevapura and Hassan,in the presence of Hon'ble Union Finance Minister Sri P.Chidambaram, Hon'ble Chief Minister of Karnataka Sri Dharam Singh, Hon'ble Deputy Chief Minister of Karnataka Sri Siddaramaiah in Bangalore today.Gokak is one of 57 Karnataka cities deploying in 2005-06 the Municipal eGovernance modules of Property Tax, Financial Accounting GIS Mapping, Public Grievance & Redressal, Birth & Death Certification, and Ward Works. Nirmala Nagara project is a partnership between the Urban Development Dept,eGovernments Foundation & Survey of India. These computer based systems coupled with Govt. process re-engineering and GIS digital mapping will provide transparency and accountability and smoother delivery of services to citizens. Out of which 124.05 lakhs is proposed for capital expenses, Rs. 38.27 lakhs towards Repairs and Maintenance, Rs. 37.50 lakhs towards New works and Rs. 15.50 lakhs towards the welfare of SC/ST . Gokak Town is located around 70km from Belgaum at the junction of two Rivers, Ghataprabha and Markandeya. Though primarily an agricultural outpost, the Gokak cotton mills has been in existence since British times. Gokak is best known for the breathtaking Gokak Falls, where the Ghataprabha river leaps over a sandstone cliff. The cliff is in a picturesque gorge of the Gokak valley and is in the shape of a horse-shoe. Other attractions include the Godachinmalki Falls.
