Allan C. Jeong Assistant Professor

Introduction

Since joining the Instructional Systems program in 2001, I have taught the following courses: EME5457 Introduction to Distance Learning, EME6415 Courseware Development, EDP5216 Learning Theories & Cognition, EME6635 Designing for Online Collaborative Learning. In my research, I am developing new methods, software tools, and techniques to map and analyze processes in complex procedural tasks - particularly processes in group communication and interaction in computer-supported collaborative environments. The tools I have developed to conduct my latest studies (see list below) have culminated into a software program titled "Discussion Analysis Tool" (see more info), which is currently out in beta release. My latest publication, "A Guide to Analyzing Message-Response Sequences and Group Interaction Patterns in Computer-Mediated Communication", presents an indepth discussion of how to use DAT and discusses how this tool can enable more researchers (including instructional designers) to measure the effects of technology on human performance in terms of its affects on processes (e.g., sequences of dialog moves), and in turn, how changes in processes contribute to changes in performance outcomes. These latest developments have broadened my research interests to include the development of tools and methods to support instructional design - particularly pertaining to the mapping and analysis of complex procedural tasks - and towards the study of the processes of decision making in instructional design.
